I feel terrible for taking a heatwave break- need encouragement

I was sick last week, so a three day break turned into a week break cause of the heatwave. Not a full break, because on a 15km run day I could only do 5 cause I felt like I was going to pass out. The next day I still felt bad from it.

Now it will have been a week since a long long run and I’m scared I’m going to lose fitness - it took me three months to build up to where I was.

Is anyone else taking a weeklong break cause of the heat? Has anyone else taken a week long break before? I need words of encouragement/comfort

Lookin for long run buddies on the beltline

Hey all, currently training for the waterfront marathon but my regular running partner is taking the year off. Wondering if anyone is interested in joining me on my Sunday long runs to keep things a little more interesting. Some details:

- Aiming for a 3:30 marathon but 3:45-4:00 is maybe more likely

- Current long runs are 15-20km and will eventually top out around 32km. Typical pace is 5:30-6:00 right now but hopefully that gets closer to 5:00. I am unfortunately not an early riser so runs are usually 9am or 8 at the earliest

- I live near Yonge & St. Clair so I generally go up the beltline from Mt. Pleasant cemetery then double back. For longer runs I'll add a leg down to and back from Brickworks. Longest run would be a full loop rail path > high park > waterfront > Bayview > beltline

- Open to linking up with people for partial runs if our routes/distances don't quite line up

HMU!

Hey all, Bimbo's 5/10k went on sale yesterday and it's only $20 bucks. My wife and I signed up last year and made out like bandits with all the dempsters products. I think we sitll have tortillas in the freezer lol. You get a shirt, medal, burger or hot dog.

Snowbird Runners of Toronto - Is This Heat a Problem?

Warning: Do not take my blasé attitude as an okay to run in the heat if you have little to no experience with it. It can easily send you to the the hospital or even kill you.

I simply take precautions like I would in Florida. I did a triathalon in Florida in April and spent 4 days climatizing before doing the race.

I'm closer to my 40s and have had heat stroke before but I love this heat and try to run at peak temps closer to 1pm in the day. Makes me so much faster the 28 degree runs but I know the warning signs.

If you are running and not sweating, do not run anymore. That being said, if you're healthy I would say you can push in this weather and become a better runner.

Does anyone else try to push in these conditions?

Again, safety is #1

There's a heat warning for the next 4 days (Tuesday-Saturday), how are you planning to adjust your running?

This is my first year running in Toronto's heat and humidity, so I'd love to hear how you're planning to handle it. Are you getting up earlier? Taking more fluids with you? Using any special gear? Are you some kind of mutant who is unphased by a 40+ humidex? Are you just saying "fuck that" and getting on the treadmill?

For my own contribution, one of my favourite ways to treat myself after hot summer runs is with homemade electrolyte popsicles - just make your favourite electrolyte/hydration product at 2x or 3x strength, pour into popsicle molds, and freeze. If you're feeling fancy you can add fruit (either whole, chopped, or pureed), yogurt/milk for a creamsicle version, mint, a little lime zest or citric acid (if you're a sour fiend like I am), or whatever other flavour enhancements sound good to you. I'm lazy af so usually just go for the standard tbh

Looking for 2017 SportingLife Toronto 10K shirt

Hi everyone! I'm trying to track down the 2017 Sporting Life Toronto 10K shirt pictured for my dad. His was accidentally lost, and it holds a lot of sentimental value for him, so I'd like to find him a new one.

If anyone has one they'd be willing to sell in size small please send me a message. Happy to pay and pick up anywhere in the GTA.

Thanks!

Edit: Thank you all so much for your suggestions and offers. We got him a shirt and he was so happy, he couldn't believe it!! He was surprised by the "power of the internet" 😂 and sends along his thanks. He is very grateful

Recs for trying on wide shoes

Hi runners!

My gf is looking for new running shoes and she's looking for somewhere where she can ideally try on several different wide and/or stability shoes in person. Any suggestions for actual stores/locations of chains that offer good in-store selection? Thanks!

Downtown shower facilities

I was hoping to get a run in on the MGT tomorrow before the Jays game, but to keep my fellow baseball patrons happy, I'd like to shower and change after my run. I've looked into gyms near the MGT and couldn't find anything that has a day rate (just annual memberships or no prices quoted at all). I can make the UofT Athletic Centre work, but if anyone knows of a gym/fitness centre handy to downtown with a day rate, please let me know. TIA.

Edit: Thanks everyone. Expanding the search from private gyms to the Y and Toronto community centres has done the trick. Lots of facilities to choose from. TIL. All the best.

Shoutout to the Toronto Good Samaritan!

I bought a cheap replacement strap for my Garmin last week. This morning, I woke up, realized my watch was missing, and headed straight to the gym to retrace my steps. No luck.

Later, I checked the Garmin app and was shocked to see it had actually synced to my phone that same morning. I rushed to a park I had walked by and found the watch safely tucked away under a bike rack. Someone had found it on the ground and hid it there so it wouldn't get crushed or stolen.

Lesson learned: buy quality watch straps! But most importantly, a massive thank you to the honest person who saved my watch.

Torontonians building a functional bev brand. Looking for packaging feedback from other Toronto runners!

Hey everyone! I’m Tom and I’m a runner as well. My sister and I are currently building a functional/wellness beverage brand, and we’re looking for some unbiased feedback on a few potential packaging design options.

We’re aiming to launch in early 2027, with retail across Ontario and e-commerce across Canada. I’m hoping to lean on this community for some help. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete, so any input would mean a lot.

Thanks!

Yonge-Sheppard Running Routes

Looking for ideas and routes around the Yonge-Sheppard area - I'm starting a marathon training block for TCS waterfront and wondering if anyone knows some good routes around the area. I'm ok with loops as long as they're 5k and above, but I'd prefer to avoid busy crosswalks as I don't like stopping when running.
