SKS Front sight assembly

I have this SKS 16” variant, I don’t know to much about it besides that it’s known as a paratrooper. I just know the guy that originally owned this bought it during the AWB so it didn’t come with bayonet lug or the with the ability to hold the end of the cleaning rod. However it does have the cut for the bayonet in the stock and a hole for the cleaning rod. I was fortunate enough to find a 13” cleaning rod and 11” bayonet and my friend sold me 20” barrel with the proper front sight assembly. I was wondering what is the possibility of me taking off the front sight assembly off the 20”and mount it on the 16”?
I’ve reached out to a few gun smiths via email and was just curious while I wait for their replies, would it more feasible to just chop the 20” down and install into this rifle? Or is there someone out there that I can mail this rifle for the swap.
Thanks for any info

Update- I got the SKS

The trade didn’t go as planned but I still sold the gun I was going trade for $450 and grabbed the SKS for $450. It seems to be in pretty decent condition minus some wear on the stock and some slight rust. All the serial numbers match though and the bolt looks clean. Any tips on how to tackle the surface rust? Was thinking some steel wool and hoppe’s. Thanks again for everyone who chimed in on the original post!

Help with a Chinese SKS.

I just picked up a Chinese SKS locally and was trying to figure out when it was made, the serial number goes 73-01155A on the receiver and on most of the rest of the gun it's just 01155 except for the dust cover which is unmarked. The only other markings I can see is a triangle containing an upside down triangle which itself contains the number 3 before the serial number. then the letter D at the bottom of the rear sight

Finally got my hands on my sks

Added a spike when I got it since it didn't come with it. Bore is nice and shiny and the internals had some old oil that I cleaned up but weren't bad. Should be hitting the range later. Pretty limited in the way of markings, not sure if that's normal or not but I'm hoping you guys can give an opinion. So far I love it and I haven't even shot it yet

She is a beaty (European owner)

Finally got my SKS "built" to my taste.

These are guite rare where im from, atleast in the hobby communities. Maybe because we can also buy.
AR's and AK's or pretty much anything, so nobody really "wants" an SKS

Bought the gun from local hardware store and it was in rough shape with some dodgy metal 35rounder mag and was absolutely dirty inside.
Basicly shot once, threw one bullet out and jammed, so every third shot was ”succesfull”

-Bought 10 round promag which works very well
-3D printed magazine relase lever for shooting finger
-Bought badace picatanny mount and fitted a cheapish red dot (have shot a lot of rounds with it, cheap but good)
-Removed the bayonet to save 350grams from the tip of the gun and compensate added weight of the scope

Shoots well with these surplus ammo from 1957, fits the theme of the rifle very well

Still to do:

Modify the bolt so you could insert the mag without pulling the handle

Are optics questions allowed? Primary arms micro prism vs Slx 3x32.

I’m trying to decide between the SLX 3x32 prism optic and the the Micro Prism (in my case the ones with the 7.62x39 reticle). The micro prism is more expensive but is it worth that cost for being smaller and lighter? In the larger Slx a lot heavier?

Talk to me goose.

Safety broken?

I have a Type 56 that I cleaned up a few years back. I only shot it once but was looking to take it to the range soon. I had forgotten that when I cleaned up all the cosmoline and put the trigger pack back together that the safety was loose. I am able to shoot it but I would like to get the safety in working order.

The video shows how loose it is but when I push down on the forked part of the safety catch spring, it seems to work as intended. I was going to pull off the safety but that pin will not budge and when I try with a punch, it looks as if I'm bending the metal around it and making it worse.

Any thoughts on what I can do? Should I leave it as is? Try to find a new trigger pack? I was hoping to fix myself as I dont really want to put a lot more money into it than I need to.

I am in Cali and I dont want any issues while at the ranges in my area. Any help is appreciated!

Does BFG AK sling work well with the SKS?

Can anyone speak to how well the BFG AK sling works on a stock SKS? I currently use a surplus sling, but I'd really like a modern quick adjust sling.

Round not seating properly

Hello all,

Recently got a refinished yugo SKS from RTI (yes, I know) and the rounds im using are not seating properly.

I bought some snap caps that fit and run perfectly but the brass case ammo i bought for the range does not sit as flush as the snap caps.

After a full dissasembly, cleaning, removal of the firing pin, and reassembly i gripped and ripped a real round in and it did seat and sit flush. The round was nearly impossible to remove by pulling back on the charging handle by hand, I had to hit it against the edge of a table to extract it.

On the round I can see scratches in the brass a little less than 1cm from the rim. And a gouge near the neck.

What do yall think about this and how to remedy it?

Silver Round in pic is a snap cap, brass is an unfired round.

First time sks owner too, im just trying to learn, thanks yall

Showing off a bit

Happy Canada Day!

Chassis is coming along. Something something tortoise and the hare... Waiting on my hardwood parts to get CNC'd (buttstock, pistol grip, lower and upper handguard) so I can hand finish them. Shown here is my main steel body for my chassis, a 3D printed prototype of my folding 6-position skeletonized "buffer tube" (attaches to picatinny rears like on the upcoming Makasi) and a 3D printed prototype of an upcoming tacticool handguard design. Hoping to pre-install AK side rails to the chassis so users can use QD AK side rails.

All in all been a busy as hell summer, even though I've been kinda quiet... I'm taking a much needed vacation for a few weeks then coming back swinging this summer. Not shown is an upcoming SKS muzzle brake, AK-style side rail mount and all of my Homesteader stuff. Also gonna start making classic "cheese grater" handguards 'cause apparently nobody else in Canada does anymore lol.

I've been hoarding cardboard boxes.

My first SKS - 1951 Russian Tula

Picked this up for $750. Unfortunately the magazine and firing pin are not original. I believe the bayonet is also not original. Everything else seems to be number matching. But regardless I'm still excited to try it out. It also came with a Tapco stock, which I don't really care for so I will probably just sell it to recoup some of the cost. I'm hoping I didn't overpay as I don't know much about SKS's.
