Moving to SWFL in the next few months. Two cities I’m considering are Port Charlotte and Lehigh Acres. They both seem like quiet retirement areas, which I’m okay with, and they appear to have affordable housing. I’m wondering if anyone has a preference between the two cities and if they have any recommendations on areas to stay away from.
AVOID!! Please go to a privately owned Veterinary, for the sake of your precious pet! Blue Pearl is part of one the largest companies in the world, MARS, (the candy company). They own over 2000 vet hospitals in the world and their doctors are paid more if they bill you more! Here's part of our story.....
Our healthy 2.5-year-old dog Teddy was admitted to BluePearl Sarasota with seizures. Within an hour, while Teddy was alive in their hospital and we sat in the waiting room, BluePearl emailed us an iINVOICE FOR HIS CREMATION (I didn't see the email until 3 days later).
The next afternoon, 2 veterinary specialists were called on the phone and both gave the same advice: start antibiotics and steroids if we could not afford the $6000 MRI. The recommended treatment was affordable. We could have done it that afternoon.
But we were never told about the recommended treatment!
For the next 18 hours, Teddy suffered terribly, frantic, adverse reaction to the drug he was on. His fever climbed to 105.9 degrees. He hadn't slept in over a day. He was disoriented, drooling, hyper-sensitive to every sound and touch -- and the treatment that would have helped him sat in his medical chart, undelivered to us and un-acted on by the vet covering his care, as well as the vet on the overnight shift.
On Saturday morning, a different vet sat down, read the chart, saw what the specialists had recommended, and started the antibiotics and steroids. Within 90 minutes,Teddy fell asleep for the first time in 36 hours.
Read the shocking information I found out and more about Teddy's Story at TeddysStory.com and share your story.
My post on Nextdoor got a lot of love so thought I would share here as well:
We clean for an older couple in north Naples, and every time our team shows up, they’re already waiting at the kitchen counter.
Not in a “watching over everything” kind of way — more like they’re just happy to have someone to talk to for a bit.
They’ll ask how the week’s been, what jobs we’ve been on, fun things we did on the weekend, etc.
About halfway through, without fail, they’ll offer coffee or something to eat like we’re guests instead of there to work.
At some point we’ll say, “Alright, we’ll let you relax,” and they always respond with something like, “No rush, we enjoy the company.”
Elderly folks might be the best people on earth

🌴 5 things to do in SWFL this weekend (May 15-17)
Hey Fort Myers! Dropping our usual weekend roundup in case anyone's looking for something to do. Mix of free stuff, family friendly events, and a couple that are genuinely worth the drive to Naples.
1. Naples Ballet — Swan Lake (Tonight!) If you've been on the fence about catching a live ballet, this is a good one to start with. Swan Lake at Artis Naples, Friday night at 7pm. Tickets from $93.
2. Move With MADD Fort Myers 5K (Saturday morning) This one's right here in Fort Myers off Daniels Pkwy. 7:30am start, dogs welcome, great cause. $30-35 to register, or you can just show up to support the runners.
3. 46th Annual Great Canoe Races of Naples (Saturday) Teams race the Gordon River in costumes and it's a great time even just watching from the sidelines. Free to spectate, $65+ to race. 9am-5pm at Riverside Circle.
4. Free Kids Craft at Lowe's — Estero (Saturday) Garden Basket event, free, 10-11am. Low lift, kids love it.
5. Shrek 25th Anniversary Movie Party — Alamo Drafthouse Naples (Sunday) Shrek is 25 and honestly it holds up. Sunday 3pm, $21.40. Bring the family or just treat yourself.
Hope everyone has a good one! Stay safe out there. đź’š

I’m also happy to answer any questions you may have or direct you to someone that may help.

I’ll keep this as straightforward as possible.
I grew up in foster care through a program called Liberty Youth Ranch. In February, I went back to request my records for college. Standard stuff. What I got instead was DCF telling me I was never in their program — no files, no documentation, nothing.
This is the same organization that used photos of me and my family in their donation campaigns for years after I left.
Right after my visit, every real photo of kids on their website was replaced with what appear to be AI-generated images. The site footer says copyright 2026. The timing is not a coincidence.
Some context on who benefits from this “nonprofit”:
Per their most recent filing:
• Total revenue: $2.47 million
• CEO Alan C. Dimmitt: $176,599 base + $18,085 other compensation
• CFO Angela J. Dimmitt: $150,577 base + $15,420 other compensation
And I’m currently trying to secure housing because they won’t release my own legal records.
I’m posting this because I’m in a position to speak — and because I know I’m not the only one.
If any of the following applies to you, please reach out:
• You’re a journalist or know one covering foster care or nonprofit accountability
• You’re an attorney familiar with foster care record access
• You have firsthand experience with this program
• You know which subreddit or community this should reach
Upvotes and shares help this get seen. I have more documentation and I’m prepared to share it.
