A Proposed Solution to the "X-Wing Problem"

Hey, this x-wing's got TIE fighter engines ...

I've been writing the sequel to the Avalon's Dawn - the Avalon's Dusk - and I've been trying to justify the cinematics and the logistics of the Rebellion.

Or, as I call it, "the X-Wing problem". Basically - how does the Rebellion have so many x-wings, and always seem to be able to replace their losses? Given the canon background of the INCOM T-65 and the difficulties of logistics, it should be almost impossible to replace them now.

Here is my solution - what do you think?

[And yes, I know that it's because they look great on film. I'm trying to create a diegetic solution here!]

>X-wings explode regularly. It is a sad fact of the galactic civil war that while one, heroically well-piloted x-wing might daringly weave its way through a hail of imperial laser fire, in the background there will be Red 3, Grey 9, Purple 12 or whichever unlucky sod is in that x-wing exploding spectacularly into fragments and debris behind.

>And yet, the Rebellion still seems able to re-equip, rebuild and restore its fighter groups so they can fly back into battle - and explode. Such a loss rate is only manageable because most x-wings have effectively been built in a garage.

>Let me explain - INCOM, the company who defected to the Rebellion, does not build the majority of x-wings. To have a central factory when you are an insurgent navy is to offer your enemy a *perfect* target. Hit it with enough firepower [and it's the Empire, so they would] and you're done. The Rebellion would have to start flying stolen TIE fighters instead.

>So, INCOM, the company that gave the galaxy the T-65 x-wing, did not try to build very many of their own fighters. What they do now, through holding companies and front factories, is build the avionics, hydraulics, and other key proprietary parts. While the x-wing is a fine and wonderful space fighter, it is also by design overbuilt, massively customisable, and honestly quite unsophisticated in places. It’s deliberately crude enough to allow any sheet metal worker or spaceship repair shop to buy an INCOM parts kit, and then with OEM parts, simple metal fabrication equipment, and whatever the hell they have lying around, build an x-wing and sell it to the Alliance for a significant profit.

>This process is amazing for the Alliance quartermasters because it means that they always get a constant flow of new x-wings from all over the galaxy [and their Space Transport Auxiliary pilots are the best travelled people in the galaxy bar none].

>It also means that every x-wing not built by INCOM is a patchwork of whatever works. These planes fly, but sometimes it's not entirely clear how. Some have different engines - because why use official INCOM engines when you have some old clone war engines lying around gathering dust? The hull plating could be made of a slightly different material. The wiring isn't identical. The seats are different. The targeting computer plays a jingle. The R-type droid is permanently wired in and really unhappy about it.

>From official sub-contractors such as small Corellian shipbuilders or the Mon Calamari shipyards, they may even change the style slightly. An aquatic curve to the ‘wings’, say, or overbuilt nose sections with a sharp point. These are more reliable and might even come with paperwork saying what has changed and how to maintain it. Even if that is 'almost everything'. The Force knows that the good idea fairy can be found in star-fighter manufacturers just like everyone else.

>So while the dispersed production model is great for the Alliance as a whole, it does bring their mechanics and technicians almost to the point of suicide. Because, for the most part, they are dealing with individual bespoke machines, made slightly differently in enough ways to make a star-fighter fitter weep and end up with a three day psychological medical hold.

>As a result, the rebellion has four official classes of x-wing fighter.

>1. The T65A, the classic model of early production fighter and mostly destroyed at the battle of Eadu, Scarif, and Yavin. The ones that remain are treasured relics of the most elite squadrons.

>2. The T65b, the most prized fighters for pilots as these are the official ones rolling off the factory line of whatever planet INCOM are currently hiding on. There are only perhaps a hundred of these built each year to the highest standard.

>3. The T65sc, which is built by subcontractors in Corellia and Mon Calamari. These are the unique looking ones, with the curves or the sharp needle point nose. Generally reliable, well-liked, and produced at about three hundred a year.

>4. The T65g - the garage models and by far the widest variance of the type. This is the whatever works model, and while they all look like x-wings [well, most of them], underneath they are very … unique. They could outperform an A type x-wing, or they could explode on takeoff. The Alliance receives about a thousand of these each year. Most combat x-wings were built in a barn with love, enthusiasm and hope for a brighter future - but possibly not the highest standard of engineering.

>This also means is that x-wings are disposable. It's the pilot that truly counts, and there are a lot of garages and barns which will quickly replace the loss of the airframe. Imperfectly, 'creatively' and at great risk to the on-going sanity of their ground staff.

>And it's also why they generally look like shit.

Star Wars (EU/Legends!) pre Blockade of Naboo Self-Insert idea

Hey guys,

so I am thinking about writing another fanfiction (just to be clear, I have written some over the years, but I've never published any - hell, I've lost a lot when my desktop PC broke - so I might not publish this one either...I am bit self-conscious about my writing, my self-confidence was ruined by some experiences in my past, lets leave it at that)...still, so the premise is a self-insert with the following parameters so far:

- the SI gets dumped on the steps in front of the Jedi-Temple on Coruscant shortly before or during 44 BBY (so around the year of the Stark Hyperspace war - unless you think I should go earlier?) in the body of a Shi'ido (a natural shape-shifter, that can even turn into a rock or a tree - so unlike clawdites who can only do humanoids)

- the SI is Force Sensitive, but isn't truly into being a Jedi (philosophical differences, including finding the Jedi-Code dumb and frankly irresponsible and dangerous (denying your emotions? Meditate the emotions away? Any therapist would call that stupid and harmful!), just like taking kids from their families and indoctrinating them and not allowing them to do things outside of being a Jedi - unless sent to refuse heap known as the Service corps!) and will most likely leave the order (haven't decided if the character will do so before being sent to the Service Corps or after becoming a Knight...then again: Which Jedi-Master around at this time would train a student that (despite being driven and talented - an adult with a child's neuroplasticity would after all be a sight to behold, especially if you throw the cheat-code known as the force into the mix!) outright calls the Jedi out on their bullshit! Including saying "You are just the other side of the coin! If the Sith are heads, you are tails and equally flawed!")

- the character would of course use the time at the temple to learn everything they can (lightsaber fighting, force powers, information) and they would pull an Anakin (in the EU Anakin was sneaking out of the Temple regularly! Hell, he went fucking pod-racing and acquired some nice things - including a pyronium nugget (which he later gave to Jax Pavan, who used it later to fight the Empire by empowering a force illusion if I remember correctly)...hell, this character would contact the Teepo Paladins (they operated from the Temple on Coruscant after all) to learn to use a blaster like they do (they can to with a blaster what jedi do with a lightsaber) and squirel away information (so basically access as much about the force, force nexi, old jedi and sith worlds and temples etc. etc.) for later use!

- after leaving the first goal of the character is getting into mercenary work and bounty hunting (to get money and a reputation)

- secondary goals are collecting force artifacts and knowledge and contacting the other force sects like the Matukai!

- the mercenary work should lead to the character putting together a mercenary force or really a private military company (so something akin to the Ailon Nova Guard, the Mystril Shadow Guard, the Sun Guard, the Aurodium Sword etc.)...so something like Blackwater (but without the scandals, the SI is a former Jedi and will not condone stuff like looting - except enemy assets, those will be taken! Also no torture, rape, unprovoked murder etc.)

- next goal is acquiring warships (so whatever can be had at that time, so stuff like Dreadnought-Class Heavy Cruiser (with heavy automation and droids, can't have then need over 10K personal for one!), Hammerhead-Cruisers and even ancient derelicts etc.) because the character wants to basically punch the Trade Federation in the face when they blockade Naboo and capture their Lucrehulks to turn into mobile bases and manufacturing hubs to kick-start their own faction

So that's all I have so far, now thing is how do you think the Jedi-Order would react to a former member (even one who outright stated from the start that they didn't want to be a Jedi really) going around doing all this? Would they try to kill the SI? Lock them up? I mean being a force sensitive and not a Jedi is not actually illegal and neither is running a PMC! Hell, you could say that the Outland Region Security Force is basically a PMC and they were allowed to exist and even given judicial surplus equipment etc.

What would Palpatine and Dooku think? How about the dark-side adepts they use...hell, how would the Jedi react if this character started to actively recruit those they threw away (Service Corps members)?

[OC] Logo of the New Separatist Union

I’m not gonna on Reddit much, but I figured I’d share this with this sub because I thought you’d find it intriguing. basically in short, I’ll be writing my on version of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy(which in part will be connected to a much larger story/series I’m developing). While I’m sure most users here will expect me to borrow from both Legends and George Lucas’ own plans, one plot point I’m willing to let loose is that >! Luke Skywalker will break away from the New Republic and helps form lead the New Separatist Movement after the New Republic turned out to be corrupt and decadent, especially after it’s revealed they had planned to use the Death Star on former Separatist worlds and backstabbing him once it’s revealed Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker are the same person. !<

I’m not gonna try and promote the fic here, but I thought you would love this design here, and am giving permission for anyone to use it for their own personal work.

The Grand Republic A Star Wars AU

Hello, I currently writing a Star Wars AU about what if Palpatine died a week into the Clone Wars. In this scenario everything up to this point is the exact same but Palpatine dies and the war escalates due to no one pulling the strings behind both of the factions, leading to the Seperatists unleashing trillions of droids in the first months of the war and the Republic being overwhelmed until they begin a massive volunteer army in the second half of the first year. The idea is that this version of the clone wars is worse in every way compared to the cannon version as the escalation is intense. What im here to ask is whether people find this an interesting scenario, what events which happened in cannon would still happen here that could play a role in the war (for example the blue shadow virus) and what characters would play a role on either side of the war that would change from the original timeline (Senator Organa for example replaces Palpatine as the Supreme Chancellor for the first 5 months until military defeats and unwillingness to massively increase military spending cause him to resign and he is replaced by a more militaristic senator from Anaxes, Kaela Verrin)

Also does anyone have any numbers on droid production or how many a planet could produce if dedicated to production? Or any others numbers that could help as im trying to be realisitic in events. Also a better name for this project would be appreciated as I am terrible at naming stuff and im not fixed to this current name

If this isnt the right place to post this please tell me or if there is any better place to post this

Summary:

A Republic ship crashes through the wrong sky.

Four war-weary heroes meet a woman who hears the Force as music.

When their galaxies collide, both sides must relearn what power, faith, and connection mean.

A slow-burn reimagining of the Clone Wars about connection, trauma, and learning to listen.

My opinion:

I genuinely loved reading this so much!! I discovered it only a couple days ago and I couldn't resist binging it. It includes several different arcs, the next one in progress, and more to come. Plus There's a lot of character development, and a very fun interpretation of the force. The author is also a very lovely person and replied to ALL my comments!! 1000/10

Fics following OCs

As the title says, I want some fics that have OCs as the main character. The story can take place at any point in the Star Wars timeline and I don't care if the OC is a jedi, sith, mandalorian, or just some random moisture farmer that was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thank you in advance for any recs given

Edit: I am also okay if the fic just transports a character from another franchise into SW. For example the fic Darth Cain the Reluctant Sith Lord by Zahariel_Scholar. I highly recommend giving it a read

Anyway, thanks again for the fics

Shroud/Veil of the Darkside

I preface this by saying I did search the channel before I posted this and found nothing.

What is the cause of the Shroud/Veil of the Darkside? I couldn’t find any answer on wookiepedia. Is it just Sidieous presence that causes it? Is it an active power/ability of Plaguesis and sideous? Is it because of the death of the daughter?

In SW fanfiction I have read fic’s where it’s an ability of Sith that is maintained by Sideous. I have even read one that it’s a sith technology (like star forge), on specific planets.

If there is no official canon or legends answer, what’s your fanon idea on it? How do you portray it in your fics?

Personal equipment/weapons for a mercenary?

Hey guys,

so am thinking about writing a fanfiction (no: I don't know if I will ever publish it, I am not that confident in my writing - not to mention it's just a thought experiment/plot bunny currently), about a (former) jedi who left the order (either before ever even becoming a padawan, over differences of philosophy/disagreement with the code, because they were being sent to "refuse bin" (otherwise known as the Service Corps!) or after becoming a knight)...the time is before the Empire was declared by Palpatine.

Now this character would need to find work and simply being a pilot is not enough, this character wants to do mercenary and bounty hunter work and therefore needs to put together good gear for a personal armory/arms locker on their ship. The character has his lightsabers, but using these openly all the time is just asking for trouble or for jedi (who might also be trouble) showing up.

So what would you get?

I'll start us off:

- at least two Corellian Power Suits (with a vacuum rated undersuit/body-glove), which will get a phrik-coating (or Beskar) as soon as feasible and Mandalorian-Style vambraces with tech gadgets (flamethrower, dart-launcher, circle-shield-projector etc.)

- jetpack and jet-boots (think Cad Bane and Mandalorian Super Commandos) for aided mobility (even in a vacuum)

- Taozin-Nodule (helps with hiding yourself in the force)

- A pyronium nugget (can absorb vast amounts of energy and even be used to give yourself a boost in the force)

- A beskar or phrik vibro-sword and knife

- Some phrik or beskar throwing knives/darts

So you are up, please give a make and model for weapon choices (if such a thing exists!) and a reason why you chose that :)

ps: Do name things people might not think of at first or very unknown things! Money is not an object, neither is availability (so feel free to name rare things, too)

pps: Mods on Star Wars EU subreddit suck!

Help me choose a real name and a dark name for my Star Wars OC (fanfic with Kylo Ren)

What you need to know:

· Temporary name: Malaika. Nickname: Mika. Age: 18

· Daughter of Elise Alunea, a betrayed Queen of Naboo executed by the First Order when Mika was 5.

· Born during an extremely rare lunar event called the "Triple Convergence", when the three moons of Naboo aligned.

· Grew up exiled in Villa Varykino, Lake Country, Naboo (the place where Anakin and Padmé got married).

·Her hair color is a mutation caused by her origin (her mother was barren and was healed using a Sith crystal that contained the essence of a Diathim angel).

· 27,700 midi-chlorians. Very powerful but untrained.

What I'm looking for:

  1. Her real name (Naboo royalty style):

Needs to sound elegant, melodic, and flowing — like Padmé, Jamillia, Sabé. Should fit the musical style of Naboo names. She goes by "Mika" as her everyday nickname.

  1. Her dark name (Sith/Imperial style):

She accepts Kylo Ren's offer and becomes his co-ruler and takes a dark name. This should be the complete opposite of her real name — sharp, cold, powerful. Think "Kylo Ren", "Darth Vader". Something that sounds like a Dark Lady of the Empire. Only her enemies and the First Order call her this.

Additional notes:

· Her mother's name is Elise Alunea (can be changed if needed).

· I love names with meaning. Her temporary name Malaika means "angel".

· I'm open to changing both the temporary name and the nickname if you have better ideas.

Hit me with your best ideas!

Hi everyone.

I've been writing FanFic for a while. I write Gen canon replacement fics, focusing on the Sequel Trilogy era, but also with a bunch of stuff post-Rebellion. I'm using a mix of classic characters, legends characters, Disney canon characters, and OC's. I'm writing everything as "This is what happened instead of what Disney produced."

I know that the target audience for stuff like this is relatively small, but I've struggled to get even minimal engagement. I've read that the way you tag your fics is a good way to at least make it possible for people to find it.

What do you recommend for general tags to engage readers, and are there also some specific tags I should be using for the specific types of fics I write?

I’m writing a Star Wars fanfic and I need help to make it as accurate as possible.

I’m not as into the lore as some other people, there’s just something’s I’m not knowledgeable about. Anyone want to help me answer these questions?

  1. how do Imperial navy Star Destroyers operate and what are the different types of jobs required to run a Star Destroyer?
  2. how would I go about writing Grand Admiral Thrawn’s character?
  3. is it completely inaccurate to have a character go from Lieutenant to General to Grand Admiral?
  4. which of the following should I use when writing: first person, second person, or third person?
  5. what other details would be important to includ?
