Volunteers needed Saturday Aug 29 for a The 2026 Bay Ride

Hello Bay Area riders. I started TheBayRide 12 years ago and sourcing volunteers is always the hardest part. The ride is on Saturday August 29 and we will have ~1000 riders.

The money it raises goes into making streets safer for everyone, not

only for people on bikes. This year that has meant taking back a

shoulder on Skyline that had disappeared under years of pine needles

and ivy, pushing to make Hesperian survivable at Lewelling, and closing

gaps in the Bay Trail so riders are not pushed back out into traffic.

We could use some help on the day, and I would love it if some of that

help came from around here. There are aid stations along the route,

rider check-in on Friday evening and Saturday morning, and drivers who

follow the course and pick up anyone who cannot finish. You do not need

to ride a bike or know the first thing about them. Most shifts are three

or four hours at a folding table, handing out water and snacks to people

who are very glad to see you.

Volunteers get a shirt, food and drinks through the day, and a spot at

the finish line party at the end of it.

If you have a Saturday to give, the sign up is here:

Happy to answer anything in the comments. And if you know a high

schooler who needs service hours, we are glad to sign off on those.

What are we doing with old tires and tubes?

What are folks doing to recycle bike tires and tubes? The tires are in fair condition rubber-wise but have holes in them.

Stolen eBike

I should’ve known better, but I didn’t want to ride my bike after a few beers. Here I thought that I was being responsible, but alas no good deed goes unpunished.

If anyone sees someone in West Sac, midtown, or Doco with a white Aventon e-bike like the one below can you please let me know? I haven’t seen one like it, so it’s likely mine.
Stolen from Drakes the Barn in West Sacramento early this morning.

EDH routes for good climbs and non busy roads?

New to the area and new to road cycling as well. Coming from a MTB background and trying to get more comfortable riding on roads with cars. Any recommendations on some good routes with a decent amount of climbing? Roads with somewhat of a shoulder or bike lane would be great. I took Serrano > Bass Lake > Cameron Park and that wasn't too bad. Something similar would be great.

Warning to those who use Pipe's Bridge: aggressive, loose dogs on trail

Be advised as of this morning, 2 large mix breed dogs under the 160 freeway. One of them almost got my leg while riding by. Called in to 311 already, I encourage you to do the same if you want to put pressure to keep this route safe for the public.

Lost keys

If you lost a car key fob near the American River Parkway at the Harrington Access/entrance, DM me. It's been sitting waiting for you for over a week and I'll tell you where somebody left it. I told the rangers I saw it there last week but it's still where I spotted it.

Is this fixable? And if so, where could I go to get this fixed?

I've had this e-bike for a couple years now, it's nothing glamorous or anything, but it gets me around town as my main mode of transportation. I'm 6'2", and the seat post that came with it isn't very long, so unfortunately I had to position it very high up so I wouldn't have that clown bike pedaling situation, however recently I noticed my seat post was leaning back, and I noticed this crack on the frame. Is this fixable? And if so, can someone direct me in the right direction so I can take it in and have it repaired? I would tremendously appreciate it. I'm based in the grid but will gladly travel to have it repaired. I hope there's hope! 🤞🏻

Bike Couriers: You must master your market-places...

Quick retrospective: Back during the pandemic, we Bike-couriers were able to pull-up to any market-place, ..park for a few minutes and watch the orders flood in.

Haha...

Those days are long gone for bike-couriers in this current age of over-saturation.

We have literal conglomerates of people(I wont identify them) whom coordinate together

and seize market-places, monopolizing tags among each other for extended blocks of time.

..

For bike-couriers, this may seem daunting but thee answer is:

In this post-pandemic dry era of over-saturation and severe bottle-necking,

-you must master your market-places

-you must, through analytic-appraisal, know thee courier-volume of a specific region BEFORE you enter it(courier-volume specific to car-couriers as opposed to bike-couriers).

-you must radiate in areas where car-couriers are a scarcity(which ultimately relegates you to polarized hours/shifts...AKA, either the early mornings or the latter hours)

-you must not park among a cluster of car-couriers. If you breach a market-place full of car-couriers, you must park about a half-block away from them in order for the algorithm to field you an order

-Any Bike-courier worth his salt has a backpack on him. If so, keep a laptop/chromebook or tablet on you so that you can do some gaming/youtubing in between tags. A PC laptop with the PPSSPP emulator installed is ideal because you need not an internet connection to have a plethora of games at your fingertips. PPSSPP allows you to play Sony PSP games on your laptop. Small hacks like these assuage thee huge time-gaps between tags for we Bike-couriers. We are in a slow era for bike-couriers so you need to utilize entertainment-measures to maintain your morale during the *delivery-desert

I beckon other Bike-couriers to yield more input as I'm sure that there is an abundance of

hacks that are yet to be exposed in this post.

SaLute to the steadfast proud, strong, and few who endured the pandemic and are STILL out here on the pavement, shifting gears!

Ase.....
