Took the grandson out today...

He soldiered on for 13 miles on the ARBT in the high winds. He's also on a 25lb steel cheapo MTB... after today I'm getting him a proper bike. He never complained but he did say his legs were starting to hurt. It was on the way up to Bella Bru. He said he loves it and wants to do more...

Two night bike tour advice - North Natomas to Lincoln to Folsom to North Natomas

My 11-year-old son and I are going on a two-night bike tour from May 29-31. We are leaving after his last day of school around 1 PM on the 29th. Last summer, we did a one night bike tour from North Natomas to Folsom and back. He did well but he was tired. Last year he rode his mountain bike, but this year he is going to borrow my wife's Trek touring bike so I am hoping the riding will be easier for him.

I was hoping for some feedback about our planned route. We plan to go:
Day 1 from North Natomas to Lincoln
Day 2 from Lincoln to Folsom
Day 3 from Folsom to North Natomas

Link to approximate route

I'll look more closely to make sure we're choosing the most bike friendly route for each portion. I am very familiar in the best route from Discovery Park to North Natomas. I'm not familiar at all at the routes to and from Lincoln. Any streets to avoid or must-do routes? I'm looking to avoid fast roads with little to no shoulder, but I know there will be at least short stretches of these kinds of roads mixed in.

Any hotel/AirBNB/restaurant suggestions for Lincoln? Anything else we should know?

Dangerous Turkey on Trail to Davis (5/16 7am)

They usually just get out of the way, but this one came toward me as I approached. It flew toward my head with claws forward. I slowed and swerved to dodge it, as I looked back, it turned around and was near the back of my head. I peddled off and took the 32A back to downtown. Watch out for this one.

Fair price or overpriced for bike service?

Hey guys, quick question.
Yesterday I took my bike to REI Service for some basic work:

- Cleaning all parts
- New brake pads
- New bar tape
- Pedal replacement
- Shifter adjustments

Bike: Trek Émonda SLR 7 (62cm) - 2021

They quoted me around $280 total.
Just wanted to ask the community — does that sound fair, overpriced, or about right for this type of service?

Thanks!

UPD: The only materials included in the price are the bar tape and SRAM brake pads. I already have my own pedals for the replacement.

Group rides?

Used to ride 4x weekly in Seoul when working abroad, usually 180-200km a week. Returned stateside and haven’t ridden since 2022. Got myself another bike after relocating to the Folsom area from TX. Looking to join other avid cyclists on some not-so-serious routes so I can learn the area(s) and get my cycling legs back under me. I did a self-punishing 28km “loop” a couple Saturdays ago and saw lots of route markers which I assumed were placed for group rides.

Thanks in advance!

Riding Two Rivers Trail from CSUS to Amtrak?

Hi all, out of towner looking for local advice. I'm hoping to do a nice day of riding along the river, and it looks like I can ride on paths on the north side of the river a good ways out east, but I can't tell if I'd be able to come back along the south side to return to Amtrak. Last time I tried this, the path was closed near where it led under the Capitol City Freeway and I had to make a huge detour. It seems like that part is open now, but does the path continue on to get me back to the Amtrak station? The route I'd like to do is what's marked in red, and the part I'm unsure exists is the blue brackets.

Natomas to Amtrak

As the title says I’m riding from Natomas to Amtrak station. I know I can take the trail through discovery park over the green bridge and behind jibborn but my ride is very early in the morning before the sun comes up so that doesn’t feel like the safest route. Any other route suggestions?

Anybody else saw park rangers stopping ebike riders on the ARBT these past few days?

Around River Bend Park and William B. Pond part of the trail.

Wonder what for...

Speed limit? Ebike Class violation?

Noticed the ones they stopped were usually moped or dirt bike style ebikes.

Fixed gear ride on the ARBT this morning toward Beal’s Point

Filmed part of my usual Sunday ARBT fixed gear ride this morning. Sunrise was great early but the trail got packed after 8am because of Mother’s Day.

Good ride in cooler climate near by

Hey as it starts to heat up I’d like to prepare a couple good rides that I can throw the bike on the rack and do without getting too far from home. Hopefully an escape from the heat. Open to gravel or road. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Ride from Folsom to Elk Grove

Im trying to plan a ride from Folsom to somewhere around the Calvine/Bradshaw area. My plan is to take the ARBT and then use the Folsom south canal trail up until I hit Grant Line Rd and from there I can get to Calvine. My only concern is the portion of the ride where I’ll be on Grant Line for a short distance. Is this a safe route or is there an alternate route I’m not seeing?

Bike Fitter?

I have been struggling with neck pain and upper back strain on longer rides. Can anyone recommend a good bike fitter? I searched, but only saw posts from years ago.

Where can I safely drop off an ebike battery in sac?

I have two that need to be disposed. Nothing is wrong with them. I just don’t want to have two big batteries sitting at home.

Looking for a tricycle in the style of a penny farthing.

Hey Sac. I'm currently searching for a functional, child-size (about 8-10 yrs old) tricycle that has the look of an antique penny farthing. Specifically, I'm interested in one with a very round-arched, single tube frame. There are many vintage tricycles out there I've found with similar-but-not-quite-right frames, but all seem to be sized for a younger child or toddler. I'm not looking to get one custom built necessarily, but am hoping there is a bike-modification or Burn-bike community in our area that may be able to point me in the right direction toward a rental or purchase? I know this is a lofty and very specific ask, so many thanks in advance for any info or leads.
