Goodbye Sainsburys

After a number of years of home delivery mistakes and weird and nonsensical substitutions I'm moving to a different grocer.

The straw that broke the camels back was last weekend.

The night before the following morning's delivery we wanted x2 product A1. It wasn't available, so we ordered x2 Product A2. No problem for us.

Following morning we discover Product A2 wasn't available in any quantity so it was substituted with... x1 of Product A1. The product they didn't have, but only half the quantity.

Add weird spice/herb subs, omissions it makes the convenience of delivery useless. You're better off going to the store yourself, picking your own food, and saving on the delivery vs petrol costs.

Anyone else suffering the same?

What was the reason?

From glass packaging to plastic

Container seams smaller too

Colour of the peanut butter is a but darker

Both claim 700g but the downsized container leads me to believe its not true. I think its also a slight increase in price but nothing drastic like eggs.

Any ideas why the switch?

never have i eaten something that robbed all the joy and happiness from my soul. This vile attempt at food has only one use, being served as a method of torture.

My disappointment with the Sainsbury’s taste the difference meal deal sandwich is immeasurable. Thought I’d treat myself and try the “steak” sandwich. Onion bread, caramelised onions, onion chutney, gravy mayo, steak. Sounds beautiful on paper. A symphony. A feast. A reason to keep going.

Let’s start with the “steak”. This was not steak. This was roast beef, that smelt like tuna flaps, desperately trying to be someone its not and disappointing its whole family. Don’t you dare call it steak. Not that there was much meat in there anyway.

The gravy mayo? Missing in action. I genuinely forgot it was even supposed to exist while eating it.

The caramelised onions were somehow both wet and bland at the same time, at one point i believed a slug had managed to crawl itself inside the packaging and die but someone how i think that would have tasted better than whatever that was, passing of as caramelised onion.

The bread was the only redeeming quality, purely because it absorbed and diluted the horrific flavour combination unfolding inside it like a brave sponge sacrificing itself for the greater good, yet even still i don't believe i would even wipe my ass with it.

This sandwich was a disappointment. I genuinely believe I would have had a more enjoyable dining experience simply starving to death.

Groceries only gift card

So I have been given a Sainsburys groceries only gift card and it understandably excludes a few items such as alcohol and phone top ups.

I've no problem with that. I'm not entirely sure if I can use it to buy things like toothpaste or toilet rolls or is it literally just food only items.

What I can't find anywhere in the terms and conditions is if you do have a restricted non grocery item in your trolley at the checkout (I usually use smart scan BTW) can I still use the groceries gift card to pay for all the rest of the items in my trolley and then it will let me use an alternative payment for the restricted item or can it not be used at all if you have a restricted item?

Thanks in advance

Printing duplicate receipt

Hi bit of a random one. I bought some clothes in Sainsbury’s and I need to return them however I have lost my receipt. I have looked at the returns policy and customer services should be able to print me a copy of the receipt as I scanned my nectar card when I paid. Does anyone know if I will be able to get this receipt printed/return the clothes at a different store than the one I originally purchased them? Thanks.

Where’s the Arla Lactofree Strawberry Yogurt gone at Sainsbury’s?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve not been able to find the Arla Lactofree strawberry yogurt at my local Sainsbury’s. It seems to be out of stock. Does anyone know if this is just temporary, or has it been discontinued? Any idea if it will be back on shelves in the future? Cheers!

Thought I'd share this nice little bargain I found tonight.

I love the salmon fish cakes and I was about to buy them at full price when I noticed these reduced ones for 53p, and then I also saw some cod ones beside them for 62p I thought that's amazing, straight into my freezer they go!
