There are FOUR Sanda fighters on the UFC Fight Night card this weekend.

Su Mudaerji and Muslim Salikov earlier in the main card, and then Zhang Mingyang in the co-main before Song Yadong fights in the main event. I don't think there's ever been a UFC card this stacked with Sanda examples. Should be a lot of fun to watch!

Discussion on Sanshou Sanda as a self defence martial art/sport?

Now, most people don't get into the fights, nor they want to so it's not one of those "what to choose so that I can fight in the streets" type of post!

What I'd love to hear is your opinion on how well the ruleset/style would be suitable for a real life self defence situation?

I think the general opinion is that MMA works the best because you have many different tools you can use, however, MMA takedowns are, more often than not, are not suitable for concrete (you will mess up your own legs), as well as the ruleset encourages pacing yourself instead of going in aggressively (since there are many rounds that take 5min each).

Do you think Sanda, despite not having submissions at all, have plenty of systems/rules in place that would translate well in the self-defence situation? Short rounds (aggression), standing takedowns (not messing yourself up on the pavement), long distance striking, short clinch/ground time (less risk of being stabbed or hurt by any other foreign object/friends), lei tai platform (developing more focus on the surroundings).

In other words, I'd love to hear the opinions whether Sanda, in your opinion, would be a good sport/art for real life scenarios, and why (or why not)?

Technical Spar Analysis Needed : Please Brutally Expose My Weaknesses🔥

I’m Just recovering from eye surgery, so my coach agreed to no strikes to face or knees or elbows.
For context, he is a kickboxing coach while I had only trained in muy Thai .

Btw I’m the one in blue gloves.
Even though I still got embarrassed by him 😅, it was really helpful experience-wise.
I Got to work on dealing with different movements and techniques like spinning trips, sweeps, and angle changes.

Lads, I’m looking for honest feedback on my stance, punches, kicks, movement, and especially how I cut angles. Feel free to be brutal , I’d rather hear the flaws now so I can fix them ASAP.

Sanda instructor needed in Pittsburgh area

Hello all. Recently, our Kung Fu school in the Pittsburgh / Squirrel Hill area had been providing a Sanda class. The class was fantastic and our participants loved it. However , our instructor that was teaching it had some difficulties in his life and had to leave rather abruptly. We are now scrambling to find an instructor that could fill the void. Does anybody have any direction on where to find an instructor in our area? Or possibly one of us could become certified to be an instructor ourselves? I know that having experience in Sanda is rare and I didn’t know where else to turn to. Any direction would be appreciated.
