NBD!

NBD!

Wife spoiled me and let me buy a new SC Hightower for my bday.

Went down to the local bike shop, they had a single XXL bike which happened to be the Hightower and in the color I wanted. I just didn’t want to spend that much money on it, but I did anyways lol.

Upgraded from a 17 Tallboy to the 26 Hightower gx axs build.

Gone out twice with it so far and it’s amazing. I love it.

This was a great damn bike, but I can't wait to get my V7 Nomad built up. Had some great fun on this one. Bronson V4.1

New Tallboy. Supposedly the geo is same as 5010. Questions...

V6 Tallboy - For anyone that understands bike geometry, because I don't.... is it looking like V6 can be a Tallboy & a 5010. I still rock my favorite bike, a 2017 5010.

I have been envious of the Ibis RIpley which can be changed out to a Ripmo in about an hour of parts changes. I am wondering if V6 is TB & 5010 in a single platform, no changes?

Vala sizing

I’m 5’10 with a 29 inch inseam and I’m in the verge of buying a Vala. I’m a in between size person at that height (and short legs lol) and was wondering would Large or medium be the way to go?

I currently ride a Canfield Jedi with 450 reach (medium) and it feels great and an Intense Tazer with 470 reach (large) and feels a bit too big.

I’m not sure which size would fit me best cause I’m just overall unfamiliar with Santa Cruz as a whole. I ride primarily DH track tech, flow, jumps etc.

Any suggestions would help, thank you!

NBD!

Or new bike week I guess.

2025 Santa Cruz Highball CC custom build, an upgrade a long time overdue. Been riding previous bike since middle school in 2017!

Nerd specs:

Highball CC frame in Dark Teal
Rock Shox Sid Ultimate SL fork
US made wheels: Astral Serpentine Alu rims with White Industries CLD+ hubs, in pink!
Maxxis Ikon tires
Shimano XT mechanical drivetrain and BB
Shimano XT single piston brakes and 160 rotors
Chris King dropset headset
Paul Components 50mm Boxcar stem with Thomson 730mm Carbon bars, Ergon GA3 grips
Zip 27.2 offset seat post

Still awaiting the Ohlins lockout lever in a few days, RS twist lock is stupid and doesn’t work with grips I like anyway! Also still finalizing the exact stem length and bar height I want, hence the current maximum amount of spacers. Got to ride it a bit first!

Purchased through, built and fitted to me by the great folks at NYC Velo in NYC! Super stoked, hardtails aren’t dead!

Shock fitment on V5 Nomad

I have a friend selling an Ohlins ttx air shock for cheap. The factory shock size is 230x62.5 but my friends is a 230x65. Has anyone installed one on their nomad? If so, does that 2.5mm really make any noticeable difference? I understand the ohlins ttx can be converted to a 62.5, but that’ll make it cost more and that’ll make it a less enticing deal.

2021 Bronson worth it?

Looking for opinions on a possible used MTB purchase.
2021 Santa Cruz Bronson alloy, medium, mullet setup (29/27.5), seller agreed to $1100. Unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive for me.

Specs/info:
Fox 36 160mm fork (not original fork)
RockShox Super Deluxe Select rear shock 150mm
SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain
RockShox dropper post
Front wheel also not original
Tires replaced last season

Seller disclosed:
rear rim has a couple dents and slight wobble
rear wheel leaks air a little
dropper post needs to be looked at
rear derailleur may need adjustment
cosmetic rock chips/scratches
Seller says frame is in great shape otherwise.

I’m newer to more aggressive MTB riding but mechanically inclined and don’t mind working on bikes.

Main question:
At $1100, assuming frame and pivots are healthy, is this still a solid deal or am I underestimating potential repair costs? Also curious if this likely started as an R build based on the NX setup.

Hightower V4 Coil

Hi all! Just scooped a Rockshox Super Deluxe Ultimate coil. It's coming with a 450lb spring but I am wondering if that's close. Santa Cruz doesn't offer any suggestions on coil spring rates. I'm 190lbs w/out gear.

Anyone have experience here? I can obviously try the 450 and check sag but would love to avoid going through the work of swapping shocks only to have to wait for a new spring to arrive (aka I'm happy to order one in advance). Thanks!

Frustration with Fillmore valves

I have a 2025 Heckler SL that came with “Fillmore” valves that don’t have removable valve cores. I can’t fill sealant through the valve (I’ve tried with a syringe, a small bottle of Stan’s with a sharp tip…any pressure will spill or the valve will “burp” it out in a few seconds). I have to use tire irons, unseat the bead, fill, then use a compressor to reseat the bead. How is this “coreless valve” a good idea? What if I need to fill some sealant while out on a trail?

Facelift

Changed decals on the frame and rims to freshen up and give it a new look. Decals from Slik.

What is the best Santa Cruz bike for enduro racing?

Just wanted to get people’s ideas on what the best enduro bike would be.

2027 Nomad Air Shock Options - Nomad specific tunes

Picked up a 2027 Nomad Coil and looking to swap to an air shock. Curious what people are running and if anyone knows the actual factory RockShox tune specs Santa Cruz is using on the MY27 air builds.

Considering:

  • Vivid Air (had one on my Nomad 6 and loved it)
  • New D1 Super Deluxe w/ Linear XL air can
  • Fox X2 to match the 38 up front

From what I can tell:

  • the MY27 Nomad air builds use the new D1-generation Super Deluxe with the Linear XL can
  • Santa Cruz worked with RockShox on a frame-specific tune
  • the new Nomad kinematics seem more supportive than older VPP bikes, so I’m guessing they don’t need the super heavy compression tunes older VPP platforms liked anymore

But I still can’t find the actual factory compression/rebound tune code anywhere. Even the reviews only mention the shock model itself, not the internal tune.

Anyone know:

  • what tune Santa Cruz is spec’ing from the factory on the Super Deluxe?
  • what tune you’d recommend for a Vivid Air on the new Nomad?
  • whether the X2 works especially well with the revised kinematics?

For reference, I’m after a supportive but lively feel. Don’t want the bike to feel dead or over-damped, but still want good composure in rough terrain.

New Nomad 7! Suspension question in text

Love the shredability with this bike. Any advice on suspension set up? Rear end tends to buck up on poppy jumps wanting to dive the front end. I decreased my rear rebound and stiffened the front. I use most of travel when I ride, and was set up for my weight.

I also rode my wife’s new Vala and noticed the same thing. Anyone have this experience? Thanks!

Tallboy v6 4-bar

Hi riders, after months of speculation it seems we have a 4-bar tallboy/ 5010 with what seems like 130mm rear paired with a 140mm fork. How does everyone feel about this move? Would you guys get this platform or is this simply a way for SC to streamline its lineup?
