Trying to get into Dave because I like getting into new artists and I do enjoy this type of music. But, do people actually listen to him because they like the sound of his songs lol

Lyricism doesn't mean a lot to me but thats what he's praised for. I tried listening to Verdansk, Screwface Capital, but theyre so boring...is it jsut the lyrics that make them good?

Dave is an unbelievable artist, but he could be so much more

I recently found a Dave freestyle on yt from a couple of years ago (linked below). It’s essentially 3 mins of unreal bars that he seems to be coming up with on the spot to test out a beat he’d made. At the end of the clip he says he could freestyle on that beat for ever and ever, but then goes on to say that he’d never release that freestyle and we shouldn’t take it seriously. But I think that Dave is at his best when he’s just having fun with it and not overthinking it/taking it too serious.

All of this has made me think that if he wanted to Dave could drop a similar volume of music to someone like Drake and by doing so elevate himself to that level of stardom. Obviously it takes him longer to write songs where he gets deep and sends political messages etc, but for me his best music is the fun songs with football bars and things like that, where Dave is clearly just enjoying himself and not taking it too seriously.

This brings me on to The Boy Who Played the Harp. It goes without saying that it’s a good album, and the messages he sends and issues he raises are powerful, but I personally just couldn’t enjoy it as much as his ‘less serious’ songs, like Trojan Horse and Professor X. I can’t help but think he could have made 100s of Professor X style songs in the 4 years he took to make the latest album. I miss the Dave that I could play at a houseparty and everyone would be vibing to.

Some of my favourite songs of his are still unreleased - the likes of Xabi Alonso, Adriano, Gatlin Gun. He also has a whole load of freestyles, like 3Ps and the other songs from that video with Central Cee that are just unreal and full of crazy bars. But it looks like Dave doesn’t want to dilute his image as a deep political voice by releasing these less serious songs.

I guess my point is that Dave could make much more music if he just had fun with it and went back to the vibey songs that made him first blow up (Thiago Silva, No Words etc). I’m not saying he should stop with the deeper songs, but I just don’t think he should completely cut out the less serious music. Anyways, I’m curious to see what other people think. Maybe I’m the only one who misses the chill fun songs, but yeah let me know what you think.

Dave x Rema

Wasn’t Dave supposed to drop a song with Rema a couple of years ago? I Have this vague memory of an insta story of his tagging Rema and hinting at a collab.
