As a local, having lived in Kiel for 30 years, I would like to share my love for the city and my best recommendations for your trip to Kiel. But please pray for sunny weather! 😉💙

One day itineraries:

1. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⛴️ Take the public ferry F1 from central station to LABOE for a maritime day (traditional harbour, esplanade, good fish restaurants, a nice beach, the walk-in submarine U995 and tower with view point)
2. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🏖️ Take the public ferry to FALCKENSTEIN for a perfect summer beach day. (Note: Ferries can be crowded and limited on rush hours at weekends.)
3. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🚲 Take the public ferry to MÖNCKEBERG and carry your bike (for rental bikes google „SPROTTENFLOTTE“) with you. Drive the coastline to LABOE, STEIN or even SCHÖNBERGER STRAND.
4. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🎶 Look out for events at the OSTSEEHALLE. Smaller venus are DIE PUMPE, MAX, TRAUM GMBH, METRO. Visit a handball match of the 4x champions league winner THW KIEL. Or enjoy a football match of HOLSTEIN KIEL and the local pubs afterwards.
5. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⚓️ Get on a traditional sailing ship and cruise for a half, full or even a multiple day tour. Google „TSC sailing charter“ or „Hansekogge“.
6. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🚶Walk the KIELLINIE from south to north. Stop at the SANDHAFEN beach bar for a nice cocktail or Jan&Heinz&Klaas&Pit restaurant (the one at Kiellinie 63) for fish and craft beer. Walk even further to SEEBAR for a unique bar&restaurant on a pier. Take your swimsuit with you and dip into the sea or rent a SUP. Keep an eye out for the GORCH FOCK sailing ship in the nearby navy port, which is the true star of Kiel. Take back the public ferry from BELLEVUE to central station. Or walk up the on the DIEDERICHSEN-PARK viewpoint and towards the FORSTBAUMSCHULE, which is Kiel‘s only open air Biergarten, located in a huge park. (You may also take an E-Scooter or a rental bike from SPROTTENFLOTTE for this route and even add the next point.)
7. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🍸 Up for a tipsy shopping tour? Take the public bus 11, 12 or 13 from central station to SCHAUSPIELHAUS. Walk the Holtenauer Straße from north to south for a shopping route with some unique boutiques and bars (Heinrich bar, Wubbke, Do Sul, Moralist). End with a dinner in the N.i.L. barvital. Now you should be ready for the next point.
8. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🪩 If you are interested in nightlife, get ready in the bars of the Holtenauer Straße, Bootshafen or Alter Markt (KIELER BRAUEREI). Afterwards visit the POGUE MAHONE, which is a very lively irish pub with lots of beers and live music or other events almost every day from 10PM. Up for a special way to end the day? Look for the rooftop parties at THE NIGHTEN every now and then, but take care of the dresscode. Visit DIE PUMPE for indie-concerts. Or enjoy a pure german Techno club BUNKER CLUB, with the main parties at 02-04AM. Alternatively visit MC LANG‘s irish pub and the famous BEN BRIGGS club next door, with the most special dancefloor you have ever seen.

Multiple day itineraries:

1. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠💯 Do all of the above.
2. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⛵️Get on a traditional sailing ship and cruise to denmark. Google „TSC sailing charter“.
3. ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠🛳️ Enjoy a mini cruise-ship holiday for less than 100€ p.P. Take the STENA LINE to Göteborg or COLOR LINE to Oslo on a 2-nights-cruise.

Side quests:

• 🍺 Try the local craft beer LILLE. Don’t be shy to order a Pale Ale or any other IPA craft beer for a fruity taste.
• 🐟 Get some groceries or a „Fischbrötchen“ and have a picnic at the quay. (but always look out for the sea gulls!)
• ⁠🧁 Enjoy a „Franzbrötchen“ at the Bakery. It’s a specialty from Hamburg, but tastes as good in Kiel.
• 🍬 Take some „Lübecker Marzipan“ home for your family and friends. It’s neither from Kiel, but from the region. They don’t need to know.
• 🏫 Stop by the city hall and enter the PATERNOSTER.
• 📖 Read about the „Matrosenaufstand 1918“ and Kiel‘s 7 nobel laureates for a small history lesson. Even Einstein enjoyed sailing in Kiel..
• 👋 Greet everyone with a small and single „Moin!“, nod with your head and you have had a full conversation. Don’t be mad that we skip the small talk. ;-)

wir waren am Wochenende seit langem mal wieder im Steinzeitpark in Albersdorf. Ich weiß nicht, wie es euch geht, aber ich finde das Gelände dort oben im Norden sowieso total unterschätzt.
Diesmal hatten wir allerdings ein Outdoor-Abenteuer dabei („Lotta und die Muschelkette“), weil wir die Kinder (und uns selbst...) mal wieder für ein paar Stunden vom Smartphone wegbekommen wollten.
Das Coole: Man ist komplett flexibel, braucht keine App und keinen Guide. Wir sind einfach mit dem Buch durch den Park gezogen und haben die Rätsel direkt an den Hütten und Ausgrabungsstätten gelöst. Es hat sich weniger nach „Lernen“ und mehr nach Schatzsuche angefühlt. Besonders für die Kleinen war die Story rund um Lotta echt greifbar, weil man die Umgebung haptisch einbezieht.
War von euch schon mal jemand mit ähnlichen Formaten dort unterwegs? Oder habt ihr andere Tipps, wo man Natur und „Action“ gut verbinden kann, ohne dass man ständig auf einen Bildschirm starrt?
