Value of Scirocco between trade in and private sale

Value of Scirocco between trade in and private sale

I am finding it super odd how far a gap my Scirocco is between trade in value and private sale. In my case it’s £3234 difference - what? 🤯

Is that normal for Scirocco or what has happened to the market.

Advice for buying a scirocco?

Hello,I was thinking of buying a 2014-15 Scirocco 1.4 tsi 125hp facelift model. Is there something I should he more educated about when it comes to them or any particular question I should be asking sellers? (It would also be my first car) And also if it has an old radio in the middle then can I eventually change it to a touchscreen and for the park pilot to still show up? And if the wheel doesn't have buttons then if I decide to upgrade the cluster to a fully digital screen one then how do I control it?

I apreciate the help!

GTS Stripes

Does anyone know anywhere that still sells GTS Decal kits, or OEM Quality ones? Would love to have them fitted to mine.

Decided to try some gloss black touches…

Been wanting to tie in some more of the cars factory gloss black on my GTS. It has gloss black mirrors as standard and a gloss black front grill. Gloss black diamond cut alloys (so with silver surface and gloss black inner parts)

Tried on some gloss black headlight eyelids to go with the grill and some gloss black inserts for the front VW badge (rear badge comes with black in centre of VW badge already)

Next I’m looking at doing gloss black rear spoiler, side skirts, front splitter and diffuser (with exhaust upgrade) Nothing mad they will all be subtle looking like the eyelids.

Then repaint the roof arial gloss black (from Matt) and the lower front bumper lip Matt black parts turn those into gloss black too to complete the look.

What you think ? Go down the route does it sound alright to you?

Crunchy manual gear shift after gearbox oil change

Hi all,

I recently had the gearbox oil changed on my 2018 Scirocco 2.0 TSI (66k miles, UK) as a preventative measure. Before the change, the gearbox was slightly notchy but nothing major.

The mechanic used a generic 75W-90 oil, and straight afterwards the gearbox felt much crunchier when cold. He suggested it could be the gearbox itself, but I wasn't convinced as it was fine beforehand.

I then bought some Red Line MTL 75W-80 after hearing good things about it and had the oil changed again. It's improved slightly, but it's still crunchier than before, especially on cold upshifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. There's a little crunch going into 4th as well, but not as noticeable.

I'm now wondering if I'm using the wrong oil, or if there's something else going on. It seems strange that the issue only appeared after the oil change. Has anyone experienced something similar? Will it damage the car ?

Thanks in advance!

Need a final sanity check before buying a 1982 Scirocco GT 1.6 – What should I inspect one last time?

After a few months of searching for an ’80s or ‘90s classic weekend car, I think I’ve finally found one that checks most of the boxes: a carbureted 1982 Mk2 Scirocco GT with around 200,000 km.

The car appears to be in very good condition and is mostly original. It also has Historic/Classic Vehicle registration in Colombia, which required an inspection confirming that it retains roughly 85% of its original factory specification.

I had the chance to see the car running, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to test drive it. I’m planning to go back for a second inspection and a proper drive before making a decision.

The interior is in surprisingly good shape for a 44-year-old car, with only a few minor flaws and a small dent on the driver’s door. One thing I’m also trying to verify is whether it is a genuine GT or if it has been converted or rebadged at some point and if the leather seats are original or if they were reupholstered at some point.

According to the seller, the engine was partially rebuilt a few months ago, including new OEM piston rings.

If I buy it, it won’t be my daily driver. It’ll mostly be a weekend car, stored in an underground garage and occasionally used for commuting during the week.

My goal isn’t to find a perfect car—just to avoid overlooking any major issues before committing to the purchase

Since this would be my first classic car, I’d love to hear from people who have owned or worked on Mk2 Sciroccos

Are there any common issues, rust-prone areas, mechanical or electrical problems, or Mk2-specific things I should inspect before buying? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wing Mirror - Shared with other models?

Hi all,

I’ve got a 2008 2.0 TSI GT, and unfortunately I got my wing mirror stolen (only the sound absorber was left).

I’ve scouted eBay but there’s no listing for the power folding , puddle light inclusive ones, and here comes my question:

Were the wing mirrors used in other models such as the EOS or the Passat CC? Could I buy one from those models and easily plug and play without any coding?

Scratching sound

Hi guys! I guess it’s my time to post a “strange noise” video. The engine is 2.0 TSI CCZB. Any of you familiar with the noise? It starts sometime when moving, sometimes on idle, I can’t figure out any dependencies. For now I decided for the car to sit since I’m afraid of the chain failure. Please give your opinions and best guesses. Thanks!

When to change timing chain?

2011 2.0 TSI done 130k miles but never had a new timing chain. No rattle or issues yet so is it worth doing? It’s a lot of money (1.2k) to spend on a 15 year old car.
When did you change yours?

Starting problem

My Rocco the last week has had a couple issues with starting. Went to the garage yesterday & they couldn’t find what was wrong.. I turn the key she fails but if I put a lil gas on she will catch and start. Runs a dream but this problem is not ideal. Any ideas? Nothings coming back on the readings and battery etc is fine!
