Seattle area shoegies, we got a good one for ya

Plash just had their KEXP live session come out, mathy and clever-emo with big shoegazey break out parts.

Llaminate is crunchy, with aggressive walls of sound.

No Floor is slackery and riff heavy with layered vocals and weird songs.

Come hang out, I've seen slowdive and mbv and we can arm wrestle if you don't agree that this is shoegaze. Loser buys all the bands a soda pop.

My first giant stage was Lollapalooza at the Gorge in 1993. I finally wrote about it.

I worked this stop in 1993. It was my first giant stage and the day I accidentally stepped into concert production for the next three decades. Curious if anyone else here was at the Gorge (or saw the tour) that year. IF anyone wants to relieve some of those memories then come visit.

I’m starting a playlist called Upper Left Indie focused on underheard indie rock, shoegaze, bedroom pop, folk, emo, and underground guitar etc. music from the upper left.

Would love to add more Portland bands/artists so if you’re in a band, have a release, or know a local artist that fits, drop a Spotify link.

Trying to keep it curated and regional, not just a spammy add everything situation, but I’ll listen to anything people send.

**Quick note: if you’re submitting a song, saving/following the playlist genuinely helps keep this new fledging thing alive and helps more local/underheard bands get discovered. No pressure, but it makes a big difference if you’re into the idea. I will listen to them all🙏

Band Recommendations!

Here are some Puget Sound area music recommendations:

  1. Seraphic

All female power trio out of Anacortes WA, riot grrl band with an awesome sound, I've seen them multiple times.

  1. Done to Death

One of my favorite punk bands in WA, another power trio with a really good angry sound, they're out of Bellingham (?) two albums out right now, go listen to them, they're great, once again, I've seen them multiple times.

  1. Otherwise Elsewhere

Awesome metal band from Whidbey Island, great music and an INSANE stage performance, truly incredible, bunch of music out, if you get the opportunity to see these guys live do it, I promise you won't regret it.

That's it for today, let me know if you want to see more, reminder, all of these bands are on Instagram, so go see them there. Bye bye.

Cheap tix for Alex in Seattle tmrw

I can't make tomorrow's show in Seattle. Alex G & Agriculture. If anyone wants my ticket, I'll sell it to you cheap. Sliding scale $20-$100. I stupidly payed $100 for this show (agriculture is my fav band and I've missed them whenever they've come through), so I'm getting ripped off anyways and just want the ticket to get used at this point.

... if you're able to pay a lil more, I could really use the money! I'm frickin broke! If you're broke like me, no sweat, $20.

I'm willing to send u the ticket before payment; honor system. Lmk!

Does anyone know of a God or Goddess-level luthier in the Seattle area? I used to take all my acoustic guitars to Cat Fox. Unfortunately, she moved to Vermont and is now retired. I now am at a loss finding another luthier at that level. Like the kind of person you’d trust your family jewels with and to be returned with an “angelic aura.” The first time I took my Martin D-35 to her, it was new but needed a proper set up. When I got it back, it sounded significantly better. She was Goddess-level.

Any luthier recommendations?

LOOKING FOR AN OPENER for show in Snoqualmie!

We're a band (Albuquerque Press) that dabbles in all sorts of styles within the general 'rock' genre, sometimes quiet, sometimes loud. Check us out to see if you'd match up well with us. Show is at Bindlestick in Snoqualmie on June 19th. Would need to fill 45 min to 1 hr. We would all split 80% of the door. Comment if interested.

king sheim is now “shime” & new album

on bandcamp too https://shimetheband.bandcamp.com/album/vultures-wing-2

- album release show may 21st @ babayaga

in their teenage bedroom in 2017, Celeste Felsheim started writing songs and jokes that would later become the discography of the Seattle band “King Sheim” who went on to make several studio albums, tour the west coast, and feature many shining faces of Celeste’s very talented friends.

Like going back to your elementary school, Celeste felt like all of the doorways of King Sheim were just slightly too short, and as an adult, they decided continue forward as the variety show “Shime.” This new band is comprised of their songwriting partner Tristan White, producer and bass player Calla Avery, and incredible drummer Jade Eliza Rosier. Shime still takes after King Sheim, with cutting lyrics with jokes a plenty, catchy guitar riffs, and grooves to move your booty to, with a side of doing.... whatever we want.
