Desoldering Sega Mega CD BIOS chip... impossible with the ground plane!!!

Hi,

I am having real issues trying to desolder the bios chip on this model 1 sega mega cd pcb.... No matter what i try I cant get some of the holes to clear and are super stubborn... especially this last middle pin no matter what I try! I know this board has a thick ground plane but wow.

My desoldering iron is set to 480c, ive tried loads of flux, fresh leaded solder, desolder wick, using hot air etc its just sucking up all the heat and doesnt melt and wont clear.. and its now making me quite frustrated and angry!

How in the hell can I shift this bastard? I dont know how the board isnt actually taking more damage.

Do I need to upgrade my desoldering station?

Oh soldering gods help me!

Found these stored with my Saturn games

I've been slowly selling off my video game collection since 2023. All of the Sega CD software is pretty much sold, except for these 2. I was wondering where they were, until I found them again, stored with my Sega Saturn games. Why did I store them there? I honestly don't remember, as it's been nearly two decades.

Anyone interested in buying them? I'll give you a good price for both. I don't want sell them separately.

Both in excellent condition, considering their age.

I still remember buying Sonic CD and Silpheed at a local "The Good Guys!" electronics store back in the day.

Pardon the dust. The discs have very miniscule scratches but they worked, last time I used the Sega CD Model 1.

Please DM me if interested.

Model 1 Pricing

Hello, I am currently looking for a Model 1 Sega CD, but was wondering what would be considered a good price for one? I see most of them being over $250 lately.

I have a small YouTube channel I do a couple videos a week usually Monday and Tuesdays sometimes Sundays. Videos are at 9:00 p.m eastern time. My run time is usually 30-45 minutes. As the picture shows from Duck Hunt to Daytona and everything in between are the games I play. I Also do energy drink review videos. Tonight I'm doing some NBA Jam on the Saturn. Here's a link to tonight's video.

Haul from Too Many Games near Philadelphia

I set out for major Sega CD acquisitions planned for today but ended up with SNES exercise equipment instead. But I still got a decent Heimdall CIB

Why doesn't the music playback menu appear on my Sega CD Model 2?

I bought a Sega CD Model 2 to play Sonic CD and use it as a CD player, but I noticed something when I put in a game and wanted to listen to the music from that game. By pressing start on the home screen, I went to the game and not to the menu.

What are some Genesis games you wish got Sega CD versions?

Phantasy Star IV is already amazing on its own, but it would have been great to have CD-quality audio and voice acting.

Sonic CD Burn Issues

I’m going to describe this problem as best as i can so bare with me. I have a North American Sega CD model 2 and a model 1 Sega Genesis and currently, i don’t have any games for it. So about 2 weeks ago, i got an external optical drive and some Verbatim CD-Rs on Amazon, hooked the drive up to my laptop and went digging for Sonic CD ROMs. I ended up finding one on CoolRom.Com. I downloaded it, extracted the .iso and MP3 tracks from WinRar and went to ImgBurn to burn the game. But after the burning was completed, i booted up the game on my Sega CD to play it, i was greeted with no sound except for the past tracks for all zones due to those being data tracks instead of dependent RedBook audio tracks, and obviously the sound effects. Ever since then i’ve tried numerous times to get the audio to play but nothing has been working. Does anybody know if this is a hardware issue or it’s something about the way i’m burning the CDs? i’ve already checked if the Sega CD has region locking on it and it does not. So, could someone please help me out?

Snatcher Sega CD manual Etsy reproduction vs authentic

Im posting as I was in this situation once and had to return to an ebay seller a reproduction artwork case from etsy. What you are looking for is a cut off on the right side of the manual. Two major differences.

  1. AUTHENTIC The paper of the manual internal pages will be smooth like any other sega cd manual and the real manual will contain on the right side the additional hump of artwork circled in this photo if its authentic.

https://preview.redd.it/0a7ge9wr6g9h1.jpg?width=1002&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ea702787fbb5e45d8cd2a6cb794f44192c8fe53

Cons are buying up on etsy at $10-$70 repro cases and artwork and then selling for $300 to $700 on ebay everything but the disk. Be careful of repro junk mixing in the authentic.

Lower left Sega Seal will have a pinkish copied blot on the gold seal itself.

Your Welcome. Be careful out there.
