Did anyone else complain to the BBC about episode 6?

the way >!Minnie's superhero outfit !<just reeked of cultural insensitivity and just plain unfairness. They clearly didn't do any research at all! >!Minnie!< was absolutely unfairly judged and should be invited back IMO >!especially considering there were many garments below hers in terms of quality!<

Amber!

I can't find any mention of fashion historian Amber Butchart on this subreddit, which surprises me. I love her—the way she looks, her energy, the info she imparts. I'm always delighted when she pops up on the screen.

Scored this for £2 today at a charity shop

I was only saying to my OH yesterday whilst watching the show that I really want one of the Sewing Bee books! I’m chuffed. Having a quick flick through before tea and it’s already answered more than a few beginner questions I had :)

Minnie was Robbed!

Honestly I have no idea who should have left tonight, but I thought Minnie's creations were great?? Her teddy bear was adorable, it looked just like a classic loved plushie, and her magical girl costume fit the briefing perfectly!

Once you knew what she was going for (which she stated right away) you could see it really looked like a classic magical girl outfit a kid could wear. Sure it wasn't perfect but I definitely think it was worth better than last place.

The Great British Sewing Bee 2026 Episode 6

Technical breakdown of Kids' Week on The Great British Sewing Bee 2026 (Episode 6)

If you follow garment construction, episode 6 of the 2026 series is worth checking out for the sheer technical difficulty of the briefs. Kids' Week flips the usual assumption that smaller clothes are easier to make, demonstrating how tiny tolerances and active proportions make children's wear unforgiving.

The episode focuses on three specific construction problems:

  1. Joining stiff net to stretch spandex for a classic ballet tutu, using fishing wire gathering techniques and layered insertion between the bodice and knicker base.
  2. Upcycling synthetic fleece (which is notoriously difficult to process in traditional recycling streams) into dimensional stuffed toys with a 90-minute limit.
  3. Live fitting original superhero concepts on real nine-year-old models, navigating stretch fabrics like scuba, spandex, and jersey while maintaining structural details like quilted panels, pleats, and clean fastenings.

For anyone interested in the pattern work, fabric handling, and how the sewers approached live fittings:

Perhaps already answered

OK - be patient if this has been discussed before as new to program / group. Do the participants get to keep their creations once show is done filming? Have wondered where does the clothing go. Thanks for being kind in your response 🙂

EDIT: Thank you for solving the mystery. I knew someone had to know the answer. Have a great day.

Judges vs Hosts

Ok, not really "versus".

I'm doing my regular (if not annual) reverse re-watch and had a thought about the interactions between the 3 judges over the time and the 5 hosts, and who has been their favourite host.

If I were to rank the historic hosts, I think it'd be:

  1. Joe

  2. Claudia

  3. Sara

  4. Kiell

I'm not sure where Sophie would fit in ....? Maybe between Claudia and Sara?

Who do you think had the best host-judge chemistry ...?

Sewing machines this season?

Anyone know what machines the sewers have this season? I can’t spot a brand name but love the ample throat space compared to most domestic ones.

Does Adele's made to measure pattern exist anywhere?

My wife loves sewing bee, and I keep poking her to apply (no success yet).

She asked me to quiz the Internet if there is a pattern for the culottes and top. Does anybody know?

Much obliged!

The Foldline Sewing Bee blog - not this year?

I love watching the British Sewing Bee and I also loved reading the summary on the Foldline and I even more loved watching the pattern search they did.

https://thefoldline.com/blogs/great-british-sewing-bee

I haven't seen this for this year.
Anyone know if they announced something about not doing it and why?

Companion Book Need Help

I got the Kindle version of the companion book, and it has me scan the QR code to download the patterns. When I do this, it takes me to a Penguin Books page to buy the book I already bought. Does anyone know how to download the patterns for the ebook? Thanks all!

The Great British Sewing Bee 2026 Episode 5

The Great British Sewing Bee 2026 Episode 5 breakdown: How sports week tests the remaining makers

If anyone thought sports week would be a lighthearted break from standard tailoring, episode 5 proves otherwise. Between wrangling featherlight mesh linings for men's swim shorts, cutting up rigid and unyielding windsurf sails for the show's first team transformation, and executing complex free motion embroidery on custom bowling shirts, the margins for error disappear completely.

The episode offers a brilliant look at how different makers handle pressure—some leaning into personal storytelling with intricate embroidery details, while others stumble over unexpected material challenges under the clock.

Learning

Has anyone got any recommendations for good resources or classes etc following along the programme? I’m trying to do the challenges at home this year as they go, but I’m either just sticking within my comfort zone as I interpret them or getting in a tangle and giving up 🤦‍♀️
