Fellow Shias in America: How do you stay connected to the Ahlulbayt when the community is small or far away?
Salamun alaykum everyone,
As many of us know, being Shia in America often means living far from a strong local community. Some of us are in cities with active centers (Dearborn, Houston, NJ, parts of California, etc.), while others are hours away from the nearest majlis or have only a handful of families nearby.
I’m opening this thread so we can share practical ways we stay connected to the Ahlulbayt (as) when physical community is limited.
Please share:
- What online resources, lectures, or Zoom majalis have genuinely helped you?
- Do you travel for Muharram, Arbaeen, Eid al-Ghadir, or other occasions? How do you make it work?
- How do you keep the spirit of azadari and wilayah alive at home (especially if you have children)?
- Any tips for converts or people who feel isolated?
- Which centers or cities would you recommend for those thinking of relocating closer to community?
This sub exists for exactly these kinds of conversations — the real, everyday experiences of Shias living in North America. Let’s support each other and build something useful here.
May Allah keep us all firm on the path of the pure Imams and grant us their intercession.
Ya Ali
