Is Jack barker based on anyone?

I thought the character was stupid and sucked, and didn’t really fit or make sense, but after having had a manager who kind of came across as likable and a bit of a goofball initially, but was actually an absolute fucking scum bag, Jack barker makes a little more sense to me now.

I think maybe there are people who, maybe consciously, come across as dumb or goofy in order to lower people’s guards or expectations, so they could either 1) more easily backstab people, since they won’t be suspected, 2) more easily extract information, or 3) set the bar lower so that they can only go up from there.

Jack does this with erlich and with Richard.

Does anyone have thoughts or insights? Is he based on anyone specific?

Another day, another explosion: Galaxy S26 exploded in a man's pocket in India, seriously injuring the owner

According to the information, Majid was returning to his village, Dankaur, after visiting Ghaziabad when he noticed the phone becoming unusually hot. He said the device then started producing smoke. Before he could remove it from his pocket, it reportedly exploded suddenly.

The explosion caused severe burns to both of Majid’s hands and the lower part of his body. People nearby rushed to help him and took him to a nearby hospital. He is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Majid said he had purchased the Samsung phone around a month before the incident. He reportedly bought it from DG Com at The Grand Venice Mall in Greater Noida. According to him, the phone had been working normally before the accident.

How do you now explain this Samsung? Is it also because the owner dropped it on the ground? 🤣

TechCrunch Disrupt “There is a time limit…”

Just to clarify… David Wallace and Andy Stafford expected him to compress a 132GB of data using an underpowered laptop in about TWO MINUTES after being given the file? Not knowing they had to do a live compression test anyways?

Could Nucleus even do it in that amount of time?

🤔🤷‍♀️

TIL: The actor for Jack Barker is actually the inspiration for the Talking Heads song “Radio Head”, thereby also the inspiration for the band Radiohead.

Stephen Tobolowsky worked with David Byrne, the lead of Talking Heads, as the two worked together on the movie True Stories. Tobolowsky said on the Nerdist podcast:
“So I sat and told David the story of me hearing tones. And he looked and says, “You’re kidding!” And I said, “No, David, that’s really the story but I don’t do it anymore, I don’t like to do it anymore, it was too creepy, and I don’t like to do it anymore.”
So anyway -- sure enough, a year later, David has written into True Stories a character that hears tones, and he wrote the song. That day he came over and played “Wild Wild Life.” He says, “Here is a song that I wrote for you, Stephen.” And we put it in the thing, and it was “Radio Head.””
Just an insane connection that shocked me. Jack Barker of all characters’ actors.

My 6yo son saw the word "county" on the side of a school bus, but he didn't recognize it so he pronounced it like "country" LOL
