First time reading Scott [Rob Roy] - your experiences
I hadn't read anything from Walter Scott until I started reading Rob Roy a few weeks ago. Having become a little acquainted with Scott through work, I thought it would be a shame if I didn't give him a try, and I've generally quite enjoyed the novel so far.
I would be lying if I said that it has been easy. I'm reading via Project Gutenberg and currently halfway through the second volume. Some of the chapters have left me a little confused and have taken some re-reading or extra research to make sense of them. Overall however, the characters - especially Die Vernon and Andrew Fairservice - have had a great impression on me, and I've really enjoyed some chapters.
What I'd like to know is what was your first experience reading Scott? Did you struggle like me at times and does it get easier? Or did you immediately fall in love? and perhaps now you're making your way through his over novels.
