I loved their cover of “O come o come Emanuel” and wondered what other hymns could do with a skillet cover.

I just got home from seeing them live and one of there songs I had never heard before.
it was a creepy sounding song, that sounded like a little girl was singing and the looping video on the back screen was of a little girl dressed in a white dress being surrounded by people dressed in black and black masks. The girl was also wearing some kind of crown too I think.
it sound eerie and stuck with me, one of my friends and one of the fans I spoke too at the concert both think it was Not gonna die from the Album Rise.
It's been almost 10 years since I discovered Skillet for myself. Now I'm finally going to see them!
Anyone else have a like/dislike(I'd never say I hate a song or theirs) relationship with Scream? Lyrically, I LOVE the chorus and the second verse. Jen's drumming was great(as usual) and I liked that the text at the begining of the music video gave me a Circus for a Psycho feel. But everything else? It was Meh. The breakdown and actual "screaming" was disappointing. I was expecting a crazy solo that never happened and as much as I love John's singing, he CAN'T do a scream. He sounded better back when they did Collide but he doesn't do it enough so whenever he actually does, it always sounds weird. I heard that John said that they deliberately made this song more tame and if that's true that's disappointing because I don't think that they should be limiting themselves that way. One deep emotionally charged scream isn't gonna turn them into something they are not. Considering that this song was written by John from a very emotional place, I would have thought it would have been more emotionally impactful. I really hope they are not planning on limiting themselves with their future releases on this album. I heard that the writing is some of the most emotional writing that they've done but this song didn't show that.
Skillet is kinda hated (I am not talking about John's political compass, I hate him for that too ngl) by elitists in the music community. I don't know the particular reason. It's along the lines of "it's a band 13 year olds listen to".
But I find myself resonating a lot with some of their songs with religious implications especially Collide, almost all of the songs in that album are peak lyrically.
I don't know, maybe it's just me who hasn't developed good taste or smth.
