shield tv latest stable build - anyone getting endless buffering today? i am logged in and worked fine this morning. not my internet - all other apps work.
edit - hopping on vpn worked to resolve it. maybe ip related?
edit 2 - switched off vpn and back on and now doesn’t work with vpn either. weird.
For the past two days, the history on my TV has been erasing itself. The videos I watch on my phone normally appear in the history, but the ones I watch on TV don't appear in the history on the TV, phone, or computer. Has anyone else experienced this bug, or has anyone managed to resolve it? I cleared the app's cache, logged out and in of my account, uninstalled the app, restarted my internet and my TV, but nothing solved the problem.
Been spinning all day. Tried deleting and adding back. Same issue.

I have a Fire stick I've bought to install this app and it was working great but it no longer is, as attested by many. The latest version does not work. videos used to take a long time to start, now they refuse altogether.
I notice some of the Android alternatives like revanced are also more or less facing similar problems for thousands if not millions.
So hopefully the developers stay on top in the fight against the evil, but in the meantime, is there any other way to watch YouTube on TV? Any suggestions will let be welcome.

SmartTube AA – YouTube music + Internet Radio for Android Auto – looking for testers
If you enjoy listening to internet radio or music from regular YouTube — rather than YouTube Music — I'm looking for people who would like to test an Android Auto app I've been developing. 🙂
The idea is simple: one app combining Internet Radio and YouTube music, fully controllable from the Android Auto screen.
It's still under development and may have some rough edges, but I recently used it on a roughly 500 km round trip and it worked the entire way without any crashes.
The radio section is internet-based and uses freely available radio/API services.
Some of the features currently available:
• Full phone interface in addition to Android Auto support, with no ads. The UI is still being improved, but most of the functionality is already there.
• No need to install additional login-related apps such as ReVanced or Morphe.
• Songs can be automatically cached in the car and played later offline.
• Internet radio with rewind support.
• Custom playlists available directly in the car. Playlist selection and configuration can be managed from the phone.
• Favorite radio stations.
• Radio and YouTube music combined in one app.
• One-button switching between radio and music directly from the Android Auto screen.
• Quick access to favorite radio stations.
• Several other smaller features and improvements.
If anyone here uses Android Auto and would like to test it during normal everyday driving, feel free to give it a try.
I'd really appreciate feedback about bugs, usability, things that work well and features that are still missing. 🙂

There is also an experimental version with YouTube video playback on the car display, only while the vehicle is parked.
This version is currently less stable and I'm not actively developing it at the moment. It can be downloaded as:

The main reason I'm not focusing on the video version is that the original goal of the project was to have music and radio together in one Android Auto app.
Video playback was intended as an additional feature for the future, but Android Auto places significant restrictions on this kind of functionality, and at the moment I don't have enough time to maintain both versions properly.
I went to use it on Sunday (yesterday) and there was an update. I installed it and now no videos will play. Is anyone else having problems? I checked again today and it still isn't working and there were no additional updates. I was hoping there would already be something about it here.
I have tried changing the network engine to okhttp too but it didn't work.

Anyone else having issues where thier videos are not removing the the recommended list. Also my watch history is not showing up if I watched the video on another device.
I usually hate AI hype as much as anyone, but I decided to test it on something actually tedious: modernizing SmartTube’s dated UI.
Over the weekend, I used it to help rewrite the interface from old Android Leanback over to Jetpack Compose for TV.
Surprisingly, it actually works really well.

Is there a way of installing SmartTube on an LG TV without involving a Windows PC?
Just been given an LG telly by family and setting it up. Would like to get rid of my Firestick if possible as everything I use is built into the telly already except SmartTube, of course. I’ve googled instructions but it’s all talk of needing to do stuff on Windows and all I use is an iPhone. I could borrow a MacBook but I still don’t think I’d understand what I’m doing as I’ve not used a computer or laptop in years and also have no cables to connect it to the telly or anything like that!
Used for years , couple days ago nothing loads anymore. Can search and select videos but just a black screen with the spinning circle every few seconds. You can skip through and the thumbnail shows what should be at that point but it won't play.
Have uninstalled, reinstalled , tried the beta , nothing works.
I watch on a Firestick. Previous to the latest update (the less said, the better), my TV volume would be on approx 12 at the most and it was fine and a nice, comfortable experience. Now I've managed to kick it back into life after the problematic update; videos are now quiet. I've put the volume setting in the app to 300%, but I now have to have the TV volume on approx 30.
Anyone else have similar issues?

I'm having trouble with both Smartube apps (stable and beta) on my Android TV. They both load up normally, but whenever I click a video, all I get is the black screen with the spinning circle.
These are all the things I've tried:
I don't know what else to do.

UPDATE: I tried the 32.14 test versions of stable and beta (as per the link). They didn't work. Yesterday I uninstalled both of them and reinstalled both they 31.10 versions and, lo and behold, they both started working, again. Wasn't expecting that!
I used Smarttube on my Philips 48OLED936 with no problems up until today. There was an update for Smarttube to 32.10. Right after that it still worked, but not today anymore. I tried reinstalling it again, but it only shows a loading screen when trying to play a video. Anyone else has this issue?
I installed and recently updated the beta version as the stable began not loading live streams, so I just used it logged out for lives. In the past few days the stable got too buggy and only played 1 minute of videos before infinite buffer. So, logically the next step was to see if beta was better. But logging in was virtually impossible. "Can't verify it's you". So then I logged in not on the TV and updated 2fa among others. But now, Google itself from all the research I've done has a freeze on my account for external devices linking for 48 to 72 hours, but I only changed anything because it wasn't working anymore to begin with. I'd previously logged in to stable maybe 6 weeks ago? After I had to fresh install after the version before the one with the app ID issues stopped working
But yeah just wondering if anyone else ran into issues logging in. I have to watch in guest mode for now to let my account "cool down" security wise and I hate it so I hope it's not permanent.
Within my research I saw that Google within the last 3 days or so sent a big ban hammer as far as 3rd party apps which may have been the initial trigger. Goodie (sarcasm)
Did they remove this? A few days ago, I wanted to clear my watch later playlist in my mobile. Usually I just click on the playlist list and then start swiping to the left of which videos I want to remove.
Not only is it not swiping, I realized the 3 lines that are on the left ( to move videos around in the playlist) is gone too!
Did they remove this? Because the only other way is to click the stupid tiny ass 3 dots on the right, click delete, clear “sure” to get it removed.
