I'm holding off recording my already written songs until I can get a microphone and as a result I'm bored AF on the songwriting front. I want to collaborate with literally anyone and write a song just for fun. Comment if you are interested
I really love to sing but I can’t write lyrics to save my life, and I am not sure where to find someone who’s willing to collab with me to write lyrics that I could sing, any tips?
i'm so very proud of this song, so this one's a deep dive. thank you to those taking the time to read 🤍
probably my favorite song of mine, 'The Art of Self-Sabotage' is a literal outline of the act of self-sabotage. not just the feeling, but the process. it's intentionally structured to mirror the cycle:
the beginning coasts on numbness and detachment,
the middle flirts with clarity and hope, that "maybe I've figured it out" moment,
and the ending is the total spiral.
this song is a blueprint of emotional unraveling, written from the inside out.
"too many thoughts wreck inside my brain; that may be the cause of these wild migraines.
i've had enough time to reconcile my pain."
the introduction is the set up to the mental storm. these lines are intentionally repetitive throughout the entire song because that's how spiraling thoughts feel. they don't resolve, they circle. the migraines aren't physical, they're metaphors for internal pressure built from telling yourself that you've "had enough time to reconcile" it, even if you haven't yet.
"i ain't into violence, i just like violins.
and the way them b****** sound when they slice my skin."
the next sections dives into the dangerous crossover between beauty and harm, where self-destruction and self-expression begin to blur. slicing skin with violins is a metaphor of using poetic violence as a coping mechanism. one of my favorite quotables of mine, "what's the point of the art if you ain't dead by the end?" a bit edgy, but the line is more meant to represent exhaustion. the feeling like survival is somehow less authentic than total collapse.
we circle back into the "too many thoughts" scheme, now further exposed to the deeper layers of myself. the repitition isn't lazy, it's meant to be haunting.
"you expect the worst, so you express the worst.
you've made missteps from birth, you're nothing less than hurt."
as we embrace the illusion of clarity, i lightened the mood of the instrumental (one of my favorite beats of mine btw). the tone brightens like sunlight emerging prior to it fading behind the storm, something like a false peak.
this section explores the psychology of expectation; the "art" of sabotaging yourself before others can do it for you. there's an inner logic to it: if you hurt yourself, you control the damage. the structure and flow of this scheme mimic rationalization. a brief, fragile clarity before the descent.
"as everything stacks to the moon, i would pass on the movement.
the consequence of missteps, i slip then let every truth within just descend quick.
as the tragedy ensues, every path that i pursue has a casted vignette."
this marks the end of clarity. the vignette represents the enclosing darkness; this is the precursor to the spiral.
"these thoughts, embellishing deep darkness…
the coffin's telling me 'please speak softly,
won't be long until we can be one."
my cadence shifts dramatically as the instrumental switches yet again here, this time providing a much more eerie and discomforting energy. a dreamlike veil covers the track with a haunting pad subtly, yet piercingly, fading in and out. it's intended to feel as if you're inside my head. the instruments is softer, yet contains the most energy thus far. the lyrics from this point on portray a lyrical spiral within beautiful despair. you hear stillness, but feel the scream beneath it.
the sabotage is now conscious, and so am i as i detail the comfort in speaking with the literal voice of surrender. the use of the word "embellishing" was a bit of a surgical decision. i'm using it to show that the thoughts aren't only acknowledged, they're also adorned. i feel this is where the "art" in the art of self-sabotage becomes clearest as there's a bit of craftsmanship to it.
TLDR, i got bars.
the coffin becomes personified, almost maternal.
it doesn't shout, it whispers; the cry from the bottom of the spiral stating that peace can only be found in finality, as surrender is the only control.
"sometimes i need reminded there's a difference between vibing and living life."
what do you really mean when you say you're vibing? i use this term to represent dissociation: the art of surviving without living. living can be hard, and the drive for resistance - the resistance to apathy, old patterns, and in some harsher cases, the resistance to the voice of the coffin - can be minimal.
this section is where the mask comes off. the pain isn't hidden, it's participated within and embraced. the battle is almost over, and the tragedy lies within the beautiful sound of losing. it isn't about death in the literal sense, though it flirts with it heavily. it's written to represent the emotional seduction of giving up, and the artistry that can emerge when someone has learned to create from collapse. it's beautifully haunting, and it's honest.
i hope it can be received that way. 🤍
