How delusional are property dealers and brokers?

Hi r/delhi,

I need to vent, because the rental market in this city is genuinely losing its mind and property dealers are living in an absolute alternate reality.

I am a 24M working professional looking for a basic, unfurnished, independent 1 BHK flat. My budget is up to ₹25,000. Let’s be completely honest, 25k for an unfurnished 1 BHK is a very healthy, premium budget for a single individual. I am not asking for a fully loaded, interior-designed luxury penthouse.

Yet, the sheer audacity of the brokers I’ve encountered over the last few weeks is mind-boggling.

The Absolute Delusion of Delhi Real Estate

I am primarily hunting in areas like Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Sukhdev Vihar, Kailash Colony, and Okhla. I am not even expecting a miracle in posh areas like Nehru Enclave and Greater Kailash (GK), though I am entirely open to those neighborhoods and would absolutely love it if a sane place popped up around there.

But for 25k, the "options" these dealers are showing me are straight-up insulting:

Windowless, claustrophobic basements or matchbox rooms where "natural sunlight" means a view of the neighbor's exhaust pipe.

Damp, crumbling flats that haven’t seen a coat of paint since the early 2000s, priced like they're prime Manhattan real estate.

"Independent" setups that come with a laundry list of bizarre landlord restrictions and zero actual privacy.

They look you straight in the eye and expect you to hand over a massive chunk of your salary, plus heavy brokerage, for a place that feels like a prison cell.

What a Sane Landlord/Broker Would Get From Me

If there are any actual landlords or reliable, non-greedy brokers lurking on this sub, here is exactly what I am looking for and what I bring to the table:

The Flat: An independent 1 BHK (strictly unfurnished). It needs to be in a safe, clean neighborhood and get decent natural sunlight during the day.

The Tenant (Me): I lead a very quiet, peaceful, and disciplined life. I keep entirely to myself, highly value mutual privacy, and want a setup with minimal day-to-day interaction.

The Guarantee: I am a responsible professional. No loud parties, no drama, and your rent and utility bills will be paid strictly on time, every single month.

Is the Delhi market genuinely this broken right now, or am I just running into the worst dealers in the city?

If anyone has any direct leads or knows a broker who hasn’t completely lost touch with reality, please drop a comment or hit my DMs. I would deeply appreciate the help.

P.S. I'll be moving in this August.

Looking for a room in a shared flat in Safdarjung Enclave / Green Park / nearby South Delhi areas.

Strong preference for Safdarjung (especially around Deer Park side/B5-B6 lanes), but open to Green Park, Hauz Khas residential side, or quieter parts of Malviya Nagar if the setup is genuinely good.

Budget:
₹18k–25k depending on the room, flat, and overall environment.

About me:
26F, writer + creative professional. I work independently and spend most of my time writing, building projects, reading, training, or working out of cafés. Pretty quiet and low-chaos lifestyle overall.

Looking for:
- Shared apartment with mature, respectful people
- Private room
- Clean/common-sense house culture
- Good light/ventilation preferred
- Walking distance to greenery/cafés is a huge plus
- Long-term setup preferred over temporary party-house energy

I can manage deposit/security without issues.

If you have leads, please DM with:
- Rent
- Exact location
- Photos/videos
- A little about the flatmates and house vibe

PRONTO/SNABBIT cleaning staff are thieves ! Be aware!

Hi guys

I have had series of bad experiences with PRONTO /SNABBIT.

Some weeks ago, I called Pronto for some cleaning. That guy was from a place near to my hometown. He talked with me with lot of respect and warmth. And then asked if he can take my Rayban sunglasses!

I said NO ! That’s a 9k sunglasses!

You can take some normal things like some clothes which I dont wear anymore etc. he completed the cleaning and left.

Few days later I had a flight to NE and I was searching for my sunglasses; but couldn’t find!!

I have already raised this complaint to PRONTO and also filed a complaint to police. Lets see what happens.

2nd incident is from few days ago..a lady came from Snabbit. Now I cannot find a new oil bottle which I brought!!

Seems that’s also gone!!

I think we cannot leave these ppl unattended! They are very cunning.

Even my old monthly maid used to steal minor things..like copper jug -gone. Jhar (to make poori)- gone!!

I am going to stand nearby them from now onwards!!

Sharing this post for awareness.

Fully-furnished 2BHK Apartment in South Delhi | For people who want a home and not just a room

Hey!

I'll be making a fully-furnished 2BHK available in the first week of June.

Before I get into the details, let me help you figure out if this is even worth your time.

This is for you if you:

  1. Work or study in South Delhi or along the Yellow and Magenta metro lines
  2. Want to move into a home without the hassle of sourcing furniture, AC, fridge, kitchenware, LPG connection, bedsheets, pillow covers etc.
  3. Want Wi-Fi and a fully-automatic washing machine, with a proper place to dry your clothes in the sun
  4. Want shops, pharmacies, stationeries within a few minutes
  5. Want DTC bus and metro connectivity
  6. Want a beautiful green terrace with arguably the best sunset views over the cityscape
  7. Want a good cloud kitchen with free home delivery right nearby

And in my opinion, most importantly, a warm and caring (but non-intrusive) host family.

I (20M), live upstairs with my mom and dad (in their 40s). I have been a Superhost on Airbnb for months now. I’ve hosted guests all over the country and 8 international guests as well. I’ve had solo-travellers, tons of young couples and families as well.

All our guests have shown gratitude for making them feel right at home even in a different city and country altogether.

I’d love to be friends with you and you can call me if you need any help or want company with games, sports and movies. If you’re a woman, you can always reach out to my mom, she’s the kindest and most chill mother ever.

About the flat:

You can take the whole place or just a room. You can also share a room with a friend, partner, or sibling.

A room will cost you about 22K/month. No hefty deposits or surprise maintenance fees. We’re also very chill if there are reasonable delays.

Yes, it's more than what you'll find elsewhere and I won't pretend otherwise.

But here's what I'd ask you to think about: after a long day, what do you want to come home to? A place that just works or a place that actually feels like yours?

If the budget is firm, find something practical that covers the basics. That's a completely valid choice.

But if you have some flexibility, don't decide on price alone. Think about the months ahead. Think about the Sunday mornings, the evenings after work, the friends you'll have over. A home shapes your day more than we give it credit for.

If this feels right, DM me and I’ll be happy to help you out with more details.

Cheers and have a lovely day!
