Dead Flies on Mushroom
Nova Scotia, Canada. I've always had mushrooms growing in this area of my lawn, but I've never seen a large pile of dead flies on and under a mushroom before. Any ideas?
Mushroom in Airbnb - Krakow, Poland
Staying in Airbnb in Krakow and found a mushroom growing out of the junction of the wall and the floor. Any ideas as to what it is? Thanks!
Catfacing or virus?
We have several tomatoes on different plants that look like this. The leaves on the plants look healthy and undamaged. My searches are inconclusive and I need your help.
Edit 1 (6/29/26) 5pm: I have reached out to both local and state extension services. Both in Wisconsin and Illinois as well are right at the border. Waiting to hear back and will update again.
Edit 2 (7/1/26) 11:30am: Just got off the phone with one of our local extension office and they have never seen anything like this before and are just as intrigued as everyone else as to what is going on. She suggested it could be some sort of recessive genes mixed with the temperature and rainfall swings we have had in the past few weeks but is uncertain. She is making calls to a few people who may know more about tomatoes specifically and will call back when she finds more information. She also said there has been no local reports of viral outbreaks nearby, so that is a good sign. We have also tracked down the original seed lot and may possibly reach out to them depending on what she finds. It’s both a relief and concerning that the professionals are just as stumped as we are.
Annihilation Vs. Backrooms
A mysterious agency sends groups of people to investigate and study an unexplored area, confined by an invisible entrance, where everything is copied, transformed and reinterpreted?? It's beautiful how horror is exploring the weird tropes and giving so much space to space, how we occupy it, both interiors (backrooms) and landscape.
And Backrooms showed us how those liminal spaces are real in the real world, showing those alienated american interiors, and such thing was only accomplished by Vandermeer in the book with the Parking Lot or the Biologist's Pool, where we can see real manifestations of Area X in the real world - I do love Garland's take on Annihilation, even though i would have loved to see more of an explicit reference to Anthropocenic tropes.
Do you have any thoughts on these two weird projects compared? Let me know folks!!
“In 1859, a man named Thomas Austin released 24 rabbits into the wild for sport hunting in Australia. In 70 years, the rabbit population grew to 10 billion.”
This thing crawling into the sea
Ngl it makes my skin crawl when i watch the video. What the heck is this?
Southern Reach
I just saw a post about the SR building and tried to share this image in a comment but Reddit didn’t give me the option to share a picture, so I am posting it here. This is the Library of Congress’s Packard Campus. Huge SR vibes for me!
Can someone pls add a hyper realistic crocodile ( not alligator ) in the distance?
OC : u/erinthul
Note : Funny edits are welcome as always! I will be marking multiple submissions as solvers on this post granted that I get multiple good submissions on a free request.
Instructions :
- I want a hyper realistic crocodile ( not an alligator, to clarify alligators have a wider snout while crocs have a slimmer V shaped sharper snout ) in the distance.
- Croc should be mostly submerged just the head & neck directly looking & headed towards the subject as they do when hunting. Try adding ripples around it to simulate movement. In case u make a side view of the croc edit, then please be careful of the scale of the animal & make it large enough as crocodiles unlike alligators tend to grow extremely large.
- Make the crocs' eyes have a natural glow.

Wizard🪄 here making my 1st request on this sub.
Sry for not making this a Paid💰 request cause I can do this edit myself. I'm posting this from a plane that'll be taking off in a few minutes & my iPad's battery is at 7%. Hoping to help a Co-Wizard🪄 on probation or an Apprentice🥖 with the solve.
I was talking to the woman in this photo about how dangerous deep natural water bodies can be. I feel like a crocodile could illustrate my point way better than anything I can say to her.
I Tried AI for a quick result & as usual got slop results.
Thank you so much for all that decide to submit an edit! I will choose a winner in the following 12h to give all a fair chance.
Spotting in the wild
Saw this at the Gigi Perez concert.
Just finished 3 books, I think Authority is still the scariest one
I dont know if this is a hot or cold take, but after going through Annihilation, Authority and Acceptance, somehow Authority was easily the longest I felt dread and the most pant-shitting moments for me easily, which is funny considering its the book thats outside of Area X for most of it until the end.
The First Expedition footage was FUCKED, despite the fact nothing overtly scary happens the fact the last moment is the expedition members being eerily happy and peaceful after people died (and the implication that the person whos supposed to be dead was sitting with them off camera) was haunting
The thing that fucked me up was reading parts of Annihilations dialogue and conversations in the background randomly which gave me absolute chills, esp since I read it right after Annihilation so I got to immediately notice it
The carpet looking moss-like, and the Southern Reach employees acting strange leading up to the wall changing to flesh when the border expanded was also really good
I dont even need to talk about the Whitby scene. I was dead staring at my book with my mouth open the whole time, easily the most horrific one.
My tattoo tribute to my fav books.
Weird collage to combat reddit cropping the photos all over the place.
White rabbit domestic?
Saw this white rabbit in fletcher park. I presumed just a wild variant because it is hanging out near typical brown rabbits. When looking it up it seems it might be a domestic bunny that escaped? Let me know if I need to do something or post about it somewhere
Ex-Ped Member Henry
Hey friends and expeditioners. Okay, now that I got yall's attention with that silly title.
Knowing what we know about Henry now that we have finished all four books, what would Henry's journal say and how would his chapters go? How many people would he be friends with? How many of his crew members would punch his lights out?
At 3am, my brain says ask the reddit gang.
I would like to see him visit Grace at the old light house about a week before Control and GB find her, maybe she has to determine whether he is real or not. That would be an intense conversation.
Annihilation: Significance of the Dinkus on Page 109
Hello,
The Dinkus used in Annihilation is a nice little fern like leaf.
Yet on page 109 there is a different dinkus used, a short horizontal line.
Is there any significance to this? Is it just a Dinkus with less breaking power?
Now when looking at an ebook version it just uses the tipical *** Dinkus for both of these. This suggests that I maybe read to much into this. It just seemed so jarring of an element for a Book that constantly has jarring sentences.
What do you think?
borne series - half in half out
I'm re-reading Borne (and the strange bird) and on my first read I don't think I noticed how constantly he uses the phrase and idea of "half in, half out". The weasels in the old man's pot are half in, half out. The dead astronauts are half in, half out. The description of Borne covering Rachel when they're on the room avoiding the kids and the Mord proxies is her half in half out of Borne's pancake shape. There are many other examples. I notice Jeff does this a lot with language in general. He uses the word "wheeling" to describe animals/things in flight quite often. I have noticed many things that he repeats in an almost hypnotic way but somehow hadn't noticed the half in, half out motif on my first read.
What is this under the bark? Malibu, CA
I found this on a tree while hiking. I’m assuming it’s some type of parasite? Looks super cool :)
