Zero Toolhead doesn't unload filament,

Hello, I’ve equipped my Sovol SV08 with a Zero toolhead. The toolhead ran without any issues for 5 months, but now, all of a sudden, the toolhead motor rattles when I try to unload the filament. It runs without rattling in the other direction. I took the toolhead apart to see if something had gotten caught between the gears or if there was another obvious reason why the motor rattles during unloading, as if something were jammed. I then noticed that there were very small metal shavings stuck to the housing. Otherwise, I can turn the gears by hand without much resistance.

I’d like to hear your opinion on the extruder gears because I don’t know if they’re defective or if they’re still in good condition.

I also wanted to clean the whole thing and would like to re-lubricate it. What should I use—would Microlube GL261 work?

Would replacement gears from a different extruder work better?

I’ve attached a few pictures so you can get an idea of the situation.

Thanks a lot and best regards,

Volker

Fan header ripped off...new options?

Good morning y'all! I had a rather critical print failure yesterday where the print curled up and ripped off the fan shroud. The shroud then in turn somehow broke off. The fan header for the extruder. The safety features kicked in and stopped the print because the extruder was getting too hot.

I don't see very many options for a replacement tool board that would arrive in any reasonable amount of time. I see some placement assemblies for the entire entire fan and extruder, and those are around $90.

I can certainly purchase that, but I wanted to see if anyone has put on a different type of extruder assembly and had better printing and cooling performance with it?

SV08 with orca - color swap

Perhaps I didn't realize this, but I've always used the baked in stock macros for filament swaps. That means I had to sit with tweezers and snag the bits of filament before it goes to the model again. Was I being dumb by doing that?

I assume I can utilize orca's features and the flush tower, to not have to grab that bit of filament, and make the filament swap transition to the model clean.

I always had bits of filament dangling, and catching on the prints because I didn't use any towers.

Am I correct here? This can be done? Any recommendations on settings?

Can’t even print a temp tower

I have an SV08 that’s stock except for the MicroSwiss hot end. I’ve been printing fine with the 0.4mm nozzle and both PLA and American Filaments Transparent PCTG. I switched to the 0.6mm nozzle and Fusion Filaments PCTG. Now I can’t even print a temp tower. I don’t know what to check.

The temps are the OrcaSlicer defaults for PCTG (280-240 in 5 C° steps). 0.3mm Layer Height. Everything else are the defaults for PCTG.

Coming from P1S, advice/pros and cons for the SV08 3D Printer

I've been looking to get a bigger printer and I came across the SV08.

Reading some of the reviews here and understand it's a tinker printer, if that's still the case.

I do want to print bigger and this seems like a good upgrade.
Although, I don't know whether I'm supposed to buy the extension kit somewhere or print one...?

If you guys don't mind I'd love to hear your experiences with this model.

Thank you.

I’m ready!!

Just got this cutie couple weeks ago and committed to outperform anything out there! Just give me couple of couple months.

Now looking for honest advise, would Z Max with 2209 drivers (EBB36 board) on 24v be a meaningful upgrade, putting aside Z Max perks and Pi 4 extra headroom? Or it'll really shine going full hardcore with 5160 drivers on 48v and solid steppers? Keeping in mind whole electronic setup, wiring and config effort. I'm still within amazon's return window and won't like to spend much more for couple months.

extra mcu not recognized

My extra_mcu is not being recognized anymore. Even when I SSH into my sv08 I only see the main mcu. So I assume my extra mcu is dead.

I'm looking in buying a new pcb but they all seem to be sold out. Even looked into full toolheads to buy, but those are also all sold out. Anyone know what the best thing I can do is now?

I'm in EU if that helps in any way.

SV08 Max Scraping Build Plate

Hello, I 3D printed some things at school and then decided to get a 3D printer for myself and I built it. I went through all the calibrations including PID (not really sure what it is) but I did all of the avalable calibration options on the machine. Then I made a benchy, it was bad but I just had to tighten a belt. Then I did another and it was perfect, but whenever it is cleaning the nozzle/calibrating, it scrapes the nozzle on one spot on the heatbed. The prints are perfect though. How can I fix this?

Ridiculous.... In the best possible way.

OOTB. SSH'ed into the printer, ran the apt update, installed Orca, updated that when asked. Did the Z-levelling - loaded the STL into Orca, selected vase mode and hit Print.

Compared to my old Ender 5 Plus, this is simply silly. The acceleration is almost scary and the print speed even more so. I ordered before I started reading in here so I almost lost faith before even putting it together. So far, happy camper indeed....

Looking to buy

Hello! I'm looking at my next 3d printer and Im very highly considering this one. I'm open to others as well but would really like to either try out a delta style or flying gantry printer. Saw this in person at my local micro center and liked it so I'm thinking of getting it. Any common/immediate upgrades that are recommended?

What to do

Im in conflict....I finally took some time to install the carage for the toolchanger....but not on the standard voron but my Sv08 ....I had this one taking dust fir 15 months because I really didn't need that one running. Ofcourse it's running main klipper/ canbus and so one.But it wil never be a voron 2 4 so I do have a frame ....ldo motors ...pi and the huge mainboard from bigtreetech tech what im missing is the bigger pullys the rails and the powersource to build another compleet voron 2.4. Also missing the buildplate....and I was thinking can I just dismantle the sovol sv08 and rebuild it all on the voron frame would it be worth the time ? I realy want a toolchanger and my 1ste idea was building the sv08 as toolchanger and as soon bondtech comes finaly out with there index system compleet the orders for the new build ( I have already 3 printers taking dust and 4 running ) what is the best option here.

Which are top 4010 blowers?

So I’m thinking of upgrading SV08’s stock toolhead with Kevin aka Sam’s Frankenstein Nearly identical as image, adding EBB 36 board and tweaked to house SV08’ MS Flowtech. Superior to Xol Toolhead for overall compactness, mass distribution and design IMO!

Heard Delta’s 4010 are the way to go but cost twice as GDS’s. Used GDS 4010 24v 6500rpm with no issue but not sure they’ll keep up with SV08’s performance and not convinced of GDS 5015 blowers being noticeably heavier, spreading mass for what I’m aiming at on first place. So any guys notice real world difference between GDS and Deltas? Should I consider anything else?

Follow up to “How Screwed am I?”

this is an follow up to my original post https://www.reddit.com/r/SovolSV08/comments/1t4pl3r/how_screwed_am_i/

I replaced the toolhead but the printer still stuck on the system loading screen. I cannot reach the mainsail and when I try and ping the ip on terminal, the host cannot be found.

When I take off the bottom covers there are solid blue led lights on, no red. I tried unplugging the toolhead umbilical, still nothing.

Is the next step to try and reflash the emmc? Do I need to get a new main board?

Thank you again for all your help.

Frostbite build plate

I recently got a Cryogrip Frostbite build plate for my SV08, and it is working very well. The one problem I have had is that the bottom face of it adhere to the top of the heater plate. I got it off, but it actually pulled a chunk of the foam or whatever is covering it off. I am thinking I should gewt a thin sheet of PTFE to put betweeeen them to prevent this from happening again

right now im trying to dial it in using this video method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EWY3CXWrv0&t=1s

any recommendations on the "perfect" settings for speed and quality? the purposes of what im doing is just making figures. ex: skylanders (for nostalgia)

again im veryyyyyyy new at this. i have no idea what im doing and trying to go off of outdated videos and forums info.

Error code 20, missed scheduling

Hello everyone, my SV08 has been struggling to perform long prints. I've seen error 20, 7, and I think 8. It'll just stop randomly mid-print with an error. My latest print lasted close to 11 hours.

The printer is mostly OEM, but with:

  • OrcaSlicer for slicing and sending files to the printer
  • running latest Sovol firmware on an OEM mainboard (this issue happened previously on earlier firmware versions as well)
  • larger SV08 screen from Sovol.
  • equipped with a Microswiss flowtech hotend with a 1mm nozzle
  • networked through Obico (in Obico, through the Klipper tunnel a message states Moonraker isn't up to date, but I dont think this could be a contributing issue. Correct me if I'm wrong)

So far I've updated firmware (as said previously). I've adjusted my speeds and other printer settings. I've done wiggle test to harnesses (grabbed and bent/shook to check for partial open circuits or shorts). I've cleared out old gcode files and have no timelapses.

The latest thing I've done is twist the two thick wires on the extruder/hotend plugs. I watched a video on YouTube how this could be a factor due to emi or noise.

I am very new when it comes to this level of networking, Klipper, code, firmware and more. I am pretty stuck at this point and need some help from those who are more versed in this side of 3d printing.

  1. did you get this error?
  2. how did you deal with or fix it?
  3. should I go with mainline Klipper?
  4. should I replace the eMMC? This seems like a daunting task since that's getting into writing firmware and more, right?
  5. should I replace the mainboard with something from BigtreeTech? But this feels silly since the mainboard that came with the printer is a 64bit and seems more than capable.

All suggestions appreciated!

Edit: formatting and info

After discovering that Orca emits filament and extruder details in indexed lists for multicolour prints, I had the idea that I wanted to use a neopixel (or in my case the stock screen backlight on my SV08) to show me which colour each Filament Change wanted, as well as showing the vendor and ID on screen.

Here's my new Change Filament section from the Machine G-code tab;

M117 {filament_vendor[next_extruder]} {filament_settings_id[next_extruder]}
; Hex colour codes include a leading hash
; DO NOT omit quote container or the code will be commented out
NEO_HEX_RGB COLOUR="{filament_colour[next_extruder]}"
M118 T{next_extruder} - {filament_colour[next_extruder]}

M600

Figuring out that the leading hash in #44D24F (for example) was causing Klipper to treat the colour code as a trailing comment took some time & reading (duh!). Adding quotes solved the parameter pass.

The M118 started life as a troubleshooting line, but I found I liked having a timestamped filament change in the console history so I've kept it.

In addition to the macros below, I made two changes to my existing macros;

  1. The PAUSE macro announces itself with an M117 that almost instantly overwrites the text I called in my Filament Change gcode, so I wrapped it in an IF;

    {% if state != 'filament_change' %} M117 Pause Print!!! {% endif %}

  2. I added a reset to the stock screen colour at the end of the RESUME macro - easiest way to find your stock settings is to use Mainsail to change it, then hit the restore arrow. The stock colour command appears on the console.

    SET_LED LED="Screen_Colour" RED=0.5 GREEN=0.4 BLUE=0.7 SYNC=0 TRANSMIT=1

Here are the two macros I made:

Nozzle LED (mine is a GRBW Neopixel, but Klipper corrects the sequence in the neopixel configuration so I still call it RGBW)

[gcode_macro NEO_HEX_RGBW]
description: Set RGBW NeoPixel based on RGB Hex code (not balanced for colour temp, gamma, etc.)
gcode:
  {% set led = params.LED|default("nozzle_led") %}
  {% set rgb = {"r":params.COLOUR[1:3]|default("ff")| int(base=16),
                "g":params.COLOUR[3:5]|default("ff")| int(base=16),
                "b":params.COLOUR[5:7]|default("ff")| int(base=16)} %}

  {% set white = [rgb.r, rgb.g, rgb.b]|min %}

  SET_LED LED={led} RED={(rgb.r - white)/255} GREEN={(rgb.g - white)/255} BLUE={(rgb.b - white)/255} WHITE={white/255} SYNC=0 TRANSMIT=1

Screen backlight

[gcode_macro NEO_HEX_RGB]
description: Set RGB NeoPixel based on RGB Hex code (not balanced for colour temp, gamma, etc.)
gcode:
  {% set led = params.LED|default("Screen_Colour") %}
  {% set rgb = {"r":params.COLOUR[1:3]|default("ff")| int(base=16),
                "g":params.COLOUR[3:5]|default("ff")| int(base=16),
                "b":params.COLOUR[5:7]|default("ff")| int(base=16)} %}

  SET_LED LED={led} RED={rgb.r/255} GREEN={rgb.g/255} BLUE={rgb.b/255} SYNC=0 TRANSMIT=1
