Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Anyone in South Carolina ?

How does registration work with the bill of sale ? 50cc gets a license plate ? Is the plate permanent? Do you have to pay property tax ? Can you register a 125 as 50? Will they know ?

Accident with deceased person

Just happened at intersection of 29 and Fairforest. Appears a car hit a person on a motorcycle. Looks like the person covered came off the bike. It's 0830 Wednesday, seems to have occurred just a very short time ago.

Spartanburg 2026 census asking invasive questions?

Apparently, after doing some research on this, only 2 counties are getting what's called a "census test" and I got one. It says it expires 06/30/2028 and its saying you must fill it out because not doing so is a crime or you can get a fine.

It says its from a dot gov link, seems legit I guess, I went to fill it out online. It's like 6 pages long with questions like what ethnicity are you? I put white, but then it asked me what kind of white I am, like Irish, German, French, etc. Then it asks me how much money I made in the last 12 months, if I own my own business and if so, what's the name of it. If I have health insurance, what kind, and what my educational background is.

It feels like I'm filling out a tax form or something (minus my ssn), it's making me uncomfortable with how invasive the questions are. Usually the census isn't this in depth. It claims it's a test for the 2030 census, where they're going to start asking everyone these questions.

Is this legit? It seems very odd. What should I do?

Cheapest (but good) vape shop..?

Visiting friends back in California (yes, they’re of legal age) and I plan on bringing some flavored vapes as a gift since they’re not sold there. I personally don’t vape, what’s the best spot to go..? I was told of one in Greer that sells them for $15 but I don’t want to drive all the way over there.

Strictly nicotine vapes, the geek bar brand is the only one I know so if you have better gift suggestions, I’m open!

TIA

House Hunting - Roebuck Area

Hi guys! We are looking for a house that is zoned for Spartanburg District 6 and within about 10 mins to Dorman High. We are currently zoned for d6 at Lake Cooley in Inman but the drive to the HS is almost 30 mins. Our plan was always to move closer when our daughter goes into high school bc that’s not a fun drive.

Our house has been on the market for a week and we have had a lot of showings. Our agent thinks it’ll be under contract quickly and we are concerned about not finding another house.

Our budget is up to $370k. We have looked at basically everything in our price range in that area with nothing that’s checked out boxes. We are looking for:

-prefer no brand new construction
-At least 3br/2bath with preference for bonus room or formal dining that could be converted to an office
-At least 1800 sq ft
-Fenced in back yard, prefer at least 0.25acr with a reasonable distance between neighbors
-2 car garage
-Fine with an HOA - we have no requirements for pools etc
-No solar

These are the neighborhoods we like the vibe in but haven’t found a house listed that we really liked. If you have something about to hit the market, please let me know!

This is what a data center sounds like 24/7. Shown here at midnight with hundreds of residential houses immediately next to it.

New to area - looking for friends :)

I just moved here about a month ago from Florida. I’m 27F and have a lot of reptiles, smoke, enjoy gardening, video games and arts and crafts. Not sure if that sounds like anyone! I hang out often downtown though it’s usually a younger crowd. Nothing against it I just no longer have the energy I did at 21 lol

How far away is too far for a relationship?

I'm M32 and I live in Spartanburg, however the only dates I've been on recently have been with girls from Greenville or NC (Asheville area or Charlotte area)

I feel like the relationships always fizzle out because of the distance. 1 - 2 hr. drives each way every time we wanna do something together means we don't go out as much as I would like.

I have an awesome career in Spartanburg (which is hard to come by these days) so I have no plans to leave.

How far of a drive is too far for growing and building a long term relationship?

Looking for GI doc rec

Hello, I am new to the area and looking for a GI doctor. Does anyone have one that they really like and trust?

I would prefer a female doctor, but men are fine as long as they actually listen to concerns and are not dismissive of my struggles. I am currently dealing with a broad list of GI symptoms and need a provider to be throughout and rule things out.

My current insurance is PEBA blue cross blue shield.

Any adult basketball leagues or consistent pick up games in the Spartanburg or Greenville area? Would be nice if it was at a rec center or something so we could bring our baby, thanks!

Does anyone know what this downtown construction is going to be?

On the corner of Batters Alley and W Main, across from Main Street Pub and sandwiched between the AC Hotel and baseball stadium parking garage—what’s it going to be?

Chemical Spill?

Just had a family friend come over because they couldn't get to their house. Apparently Beaumont Ave/Isom is closed and hazmat teams are there but I can't find any other info on it. Interesting.

Looking for Friends

I'm a 33 year old male. I have a decent amount of friends, but it's always good to have more! I have tons of hobbies such as cycling, walking, bodybuilding, pickleball, going to bars, scuba diving, flying planes (both RC and full scale), going to kava bars, traveling, learning languages, building just about anything, corn hole, playing music (I'm a half-ass pianist), and much more. Down to do most things, but I'm not into video games and drawing/painting.

I'm really looking for people who won't bail on things.

Also would be interested in finding another couple who'd be down to travel together. My girlfriend and I usually do a few trips per year, but most of our friends make different excuses for reasons they can't travel with us. It'd be fun to split a house with some friends!

Anybody got any opinions about the people running for County Chairman?

Just curious if anyone's done the legwork yet to figure out which of these 6 people they like/dislike and why.

Here's the names below:

https://preview.redd.it/m6bwbnwicp0h1.png?width=193&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4c02cc879bd4b29e8af8b3bdac48224e8e748a4

I'll go first:

Ann Angermeier has a grand total of two posts on her FB profile, so I almost wrote her off, but apparently she's got a campaign website and tons of random civic experience, so I'm putting her in the more professional tier of local politician.

William Crawford hasn't said as much on Facebook, but he's got a pretty professional normal looking campaign website so I'm assuming he's kind of more status quo/establishment type. (i.e. pretty similar to Angermeier, maybe)

Mike Stacy sounds like your average angry Facebooker who's just mad about people building stuff. He's also got a fun civil war going on with another dude on Facebook named Christopher Kirby. I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet, but most of the election fireworks seem to be happening in this arena.

David Whitener does ALL-CAPS blocks of text on his Facebook page, so that's a no for me.

Kesha Whitner: I wasn't able to find a FB page or website. EDIT: apparently, I somehow totally missed them (and apparently whoever's organizing the May 14th meet-the-candidates event got her name wrong? Anyhoo, see the helpful comments below for more info about her.)

Leon Wiles seems like the serious dem contender, since he's got the full FB page and website and such.

Nail tech schools in the upstate?

Hey! I am interested in any good nail technician schools. I have IBA and AHT on my radar but was wondering if anyone had any experiences elsewhere or had good or bad experiences at these two specific schools? Thanks so much!

Camper World - Spartanburg

Buyer beware!!! Do not expect the price to match the one online. All the fees were absolutely hidden and we drove 40 miles here since the listing said no hidden fees online. We had the cash for the price stated online and arrived to find out the cost was several thousand dollars more than the listing. Such a waste of our time and effort. As we walked out the sales lady chased us out with a price only a few thousand more than listing but with missing components! Complete scam establishment that will smudge the costs in a seconds notice. I can’t believe this is legal!
