Speediance GM2 updated review

I initially posted a 1 month review that can be found on my profile, and promised to update after another 6 months, so here is that update (a few months late)!

To keep it short, everything I said in the initial review still applies. I’ve been fortunate to have no software, hardware or Bluetooth connection issues whatsoever. I use the machine 5-6 times a week on a PPL type split and have made significant gains, progressively overloaded with ease, and finally started getting some quad definition, I love this machine.

My cable health is still ‘optimal’ after 900,000 kg (almost 2 million pounds), I know that some day I will have to change the cables and I’m still nervous about the process, but so far this thing has held up brilliantly.

All the exercises I listed previously I still perform regularly, the only changes have been in the attachments I’ve used. I can highly recommend two attachments that have enhanced my workouts immensely:

a) trak handle sport d handles: as someone who has slight wrist issues, these d handles are phenomenal. Allows complete freedom of movement for all exercises and lets you relieve any tension in your wrists (on curls, lateral raises etc), just a great attachment.

b) rogue rotating v grip: expensive but holy shit this attachment is amazing. Tricep pull/push downs, standing skull crushers, overhead extensions, bicep curls, reverse curls…this attachment is just brilliant, I cannot hype it enough.

In addition, I bought a ‘cable connector’ as recommended by others on this sub. This allowed you to link the two cables and then use a single attachment. This has allowed me to use the rogue v grip for lat pull downs and low rows as well, and both feel amazing (seriously, that attachment is ridiculously good).

Anyway, hope this has been useful, this machine (which I was so nervous about spending so much on) has been the best thing I could have purchased for my fitness journey, absolutely love it👍

PS: the GM ultra certainly looks interesting, addressing the lat pull down issue as well as having a leg roller. For me personally, I can use my Ironmaster bench and attachments, and the overall increased size and look of the machine just wouldn’t fit into my lounge from an aesthetic viewpoint, so I’m kind of relieved I’ll have no FOMO.

What can you NOT do on a Gym Monster?

I’m planning to build out a home gym and I’m seriously considering a Gym Monster (2?) due to space constraints. I have decent square footage in my basement, but very low ceilings: 81.5” from the floor to the bottom of the ceiling joists. There are a couple weight based all in one racks that will fit, but just barely. I’d also be more willing to put a digital resistance machine upstairs in a spare room as supposed to a big, heavy, ugly power rack.

I’m wondering, what would I not be able to do with a Gym Monster that I would otherwise be able to do with a traditional power rack/functional trainer combo? I know lat pull downs are tricky due to not having a leg holder, although I’ve seen people using straps routed under the platform. What else is either not possible or not as good as traditional equipment? How do bench presses feel? Is it just a matter of getting used to the feel of digital resistance? I’m also concerned about durability, obsolescence and the possibility of a required subscription in the future. $4-5k is a lot easier to justify if you know that what you’re buying will essentially last forever.

Adding Custom Workouts with Wellness+

My Wife and I subscribed to Wellness+ last November and have had a mixed experience. We are both over 60 and pursuing a weight loss and toning “get back in shape” program. About a decade ago, we both followed a program outlined by Ellington Darden in his book “The Body Fat Breakthrough” which focuses on the benefits of “Negative [eccentric] Training” along with dietary guidelines. The Gym Monster is the perfect machine to create the eccentric focused training program, however I’d like to understand how I can better integrate the custom program into the GM ecosystem and wellness+ to add the advantage of the latest technology for tracking and reporting.

Strength Assessment frustrating for beginners

I just got my monsterGym 2s and was excited to do my first strength assessment as it seems to be the basis for everything. However it constantly nags for being too slow and if I go lower with the weight it just keeps on getting worse as it feels I’m ripping the cable out of the machine because I’m pulling them so fast - and it still tells me I’m too slow…

Also it seems that if you do one rep too slow, it just made up its mind that now everything is too slow, no matter how much the reps might improve over time - I never could make the ‘too slow’ go away once it appeared usually within the first 2 reps…

I’m not sure if I’m already regret buying the thing if this is the smartness I can expect from the machine. Can you please help me how to use the programs and benefit from the smart features without getting frustrated? Is it possible to go without the strength assessment? Or what am I doing wrong?

Team Speediance at ATHX Copenhagen

ATHX Copenhagen is in the books.

Our athletes came into the race with different backgrounds, goals, and experiences, but shared the same floor and the same challenge.

It was great to see everyone push through, support each other, and put their training to the test.

Big respect to every Team Speediance athlete who competed in Copenhagen — and congrats to everyone who took part in the event.

For anyone else who raced ATHX Copenhagen: how did it go?

More guided Courses with double muscle stimulus per week.

Hi, I’m in my second month of ownership of the gym monster 2S, but I am working out for 25 years in the gym. I noticed that the fully guided courses are fantastic and extremely motivating! I love Coach Dan!

Sadly, some scientifically up-to-date workout routines are missing.
For example new studies shows that hitting a muscle two times a week brings higher muscle muscle growth stimulus which your app shows very nicely.

I am sure many experienced users would love to see certain combinations as fully guided courses:

  1. Push, pull, legs, push, pull, legs. (Five times a week)
  2. Upper, lower, abs, upper, lower. (Five times a week)
  3. push, pull, push, pull. (Four times a week)
  4. upper, lower, upper, lower (four times a week. I know that one is avavable as „dumb“ training „alternate shaping“ but it’s really not fun at all)

I would love to see those fully guided workouts added, where you actually offer programs for at least a month for each of those three combinations.
Ideally, a male and female version to appeal both genders and make them feel welcome to use it. Ideally those are different too so the user can switch between them. After they are done with one of them.

I hope I could describe my request understandable 😄

Shoes or No Shoes?

Hi all! New Gym Monster 2 user here. I’m about 3 weeks in and am impressed thus far.

I’ve been experimenting a bit with my setup and got curious about what everyone else does for strength training: shoes or no shoes?

I’m mainly asking about lifts and other strength exercises, not rowing. I’ve noticed I sometimes feel more grounded without shoes, but I’m still figuring out what feels best.

For those who have tried both, do you notice a difference in stability, form, comfort, or performance? And are there certain exercises where you definitely prefer one over the other?

Curious to hear what works for everyone!

Cant find any programs after update.

I recently had to upgrade the software. After the update, i cannot seem to find any of the workouts I used to do. For example: ill search up “biceps”, and it says i doesnt have anything that matches that search. Where as before, i would search bicep, and it would come up with a plethora of programs. “Bicep shredder” etc.

Move Speediance GM2

Hi,

I have my GM2 in my Garden Shed. Planning to move it to a room in my attic. It's 75+kgs and not possible to lift it easily. Is it possible to dismantle it in a way it doesn't affect the motor and circuit. Has anyone tried to move it from the living room to the attic in any other way easily without dismantling it? Ideas welcomed.

Sould of used Amazon

Just a heads up to anyone looking to order, use Amazon. I ordered through the speediance website on July 30th, I got a shipping labeled generated on Aug 6th and everything has been stagnant since then. I didnt expect same week delivery, but really not knowing when or if this thing is coming has definitely put a bad taste in my mouth so far.

Gym Monster Ultra Pricing insight

Hi folks,

Was at KaDeWe in Berlin earlier and was surprised to see a small Speediance Gym Monster area with the GM2s on display.

Spoke to the representative there and asked about the Ultra and he said they would be taking preorders at the end of the month, and price would be around 5k EUR.

He mentioned they still waiting on some final bits of info regarding it, and didn’t have much else to share other than what’s already known.

Why won’t gym monster ship?

I ordered a gym monster on July 30th. It generated a tracking number. But now according to 17 track (their tracking site). My order is just sitting in the same location. It’s been sitting for 11 days…

I keep asking support and they say they’ll email me an update after they check with their logistics team but an update never comes.

Anyone else have these shipping problems?

Gritty Feel From Cable

When looking at the machine the left cable has a gritty feel when pulling about halfway. I’ve pulled the cable as far as I could and the cable itself feels fine. It feels more like bearing issue. Has anyone else had this and solved it?

Guided workouts - timing off

Hello,

Just looking to get some input.

I have used wellness plus to produce a programme.

The machine is suggesting the workouts should last approx 120 mins (they do have 1-2minutes of rest time between each set). I am finishing the whole workout in much less time - 45 - 60 minutes. Has anybody else had this experience? Im not using the full rest time between sets but that's not adding up to over an hour of difference. Is the machine massively overestimating the workout time or am I doing something wrong?

Gym Monster 1 vs. 2 – how difficult is it to change the cables?

I was originally thinking about getting the Gym Monster 1, but I’m honestly a bit worried about changing the cables.

I’ve watched a few tutorials, and with the Gym Monster 1 it looks extremely complicated to me. The Gym Monster 2 seems a little easier, although I still find the whole process kind of annoying.

For the price of these machines, I honestly find it a bit ridiculous that changing the cables seems to be so complicated.

How often do you actually have to change the cables during a normal workout? And what are your experiences with it? Did you have any problems getting used to changing them, or does it become easy once you’ve done it a few times?

Gym Monster 2 platform making a creaking/cracking noise under load

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Speediance Gym Monster 2 and have only used it about three times so far.

I’ve noticed that the foldable platform makes a strange creaking/cracking noise when I put weight on certain areas of it.

It doesn’t seem to happen everywhere on the platform. If I put weight on certain spots, I can hear the noise, while other areas seem completely quiet.

I’m wondering if this could simply be caused by my floor being slightly uneven, or if there is something I should check on the Gym Monster 2 itself.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with their GM2?

Free Weights

Hello all! I just recently purchased a Gym Monster 2S and am eagerly awaiting delivery! My question is how does it compare to lifting free weights at the gym? Also, are there any wrist workouts? I went to the official site but couldn’t find any.

Thank you and excited to start working out on this!
