INSURANCE—Sprinter camper owners in the USA

I bought the 2019 camper and my insurance company (USAA)would not insure. Liberty Mutual offered me a policy.

I’m out shopping for a better deal. I would like to combine all of my policies and am seeking suggestions on which insurance company I should contact —and any other little nuance or information that would be helpful.

FYI-I bought the Amazon cargo van and then converted it. I haven’t told the insurance company it’s a camper. We’re just “using it to haul stuff” around. What do you think about that strategy?

Should I buy an Obs2 code reader?

I have a sprinter van 2500 2023. I just was thinking why go to the benz dealership if I can just fix the issue myself.

Parking sensors relocation kit

Hi - has anyone used a parking sensor relocation kit on a TrailFX front bumper? The two middle sensors give wrong readings, which gets annoying. If so, what kit did you use? Thx

Selling van, seats or not?

I plan on selling my 2013 MB Sprinter 2500. Right now the two back rows of seats are out and stored in garage. I built a simple shelf bed with storage under where those seats used to be, minimal build camping van. So my question is should I try to sell it as is with camping setup, or put those seats back?

Start issues

2010 3500 dually (NCV3)

Been driving it with no issues. Today it decided not to start.

The battery has 12.8 volts
Shifter is in park
Park brake on and showing PARK on dash
Tried disengaging the park brake
Tried shifting to neutral
Dash lights up normal and everything else electrical related seems fine
No kill switch

Any insight appreciated

UPDATE: u/fulltimeweekender was correct, fuse #23 in the panel next to the brake pedal was blown. That fuse allows power through to the starter solenoid (via the trigger wire, I believe) so it was simply never getting signal.

I’m embarrassed that I opted to take an uber and two hour train ride home instead of taking a breath, collecting myself, and troubleshoot the basics. I built this van out, and have years of 12-36 VDC experience, but my brain was fried and I desperately just wanted to be home, fed, and in bed. I had just finished a 16-hour work day in which I skipped lunch and had terrible sleep the night before, so my cylinders were not firing. Excuses, but I’m making myself feel better in writing this.

Don’t be me. Breathe. Collect. Diagnose. I could have driven home that night rather than sit hungry and angry on the train, just to repeat the commute back to fix the issue in literal seconds.

Any advice on dog safety in a sprinter

I have some upcoming travel coming up where I have to have me, my husband and my dog in the front of a ford transit sprinter van. In my car I have my dog in a sleepy pod harness for safety. I’m at a loss as to what to do with the van. There are only 2 seats, with space on the floor in between. The back of the van will be full of heavy equipment, so even if there’s space for a kennel it doesn’t feel like the safest option. There really isn’t room for one of the big crash tested kennels in the front. Has anyone ever figured out a safe option for a small space like this? Maybe In the front of a moving truck for example?

AAA says they don’t insure this car. I have friends who say theirs are insured by AAA. What’s going on?

Bought used sprinter today. California, 25k miles, 2023 model year, 4x2, 5 seats. Called Aaa to insure and I was turned down. I’m 68, retired, clean record, have my home and other cars with Aaa. I was floored. They sent me to’ General insurance’ for $1750 a year. I took it.

How are Sprinters for somewhat taller dudes...?

I'm really interested in getting a Sprinter van but I'm 6'4" and a little worried it might feel cramped. What's the scoop?
