Trail running - tips/come with me?

Hi all. I am visiting Squamish for a couple days from Australia and hoping to hit some trails. Looking for some tips on the best spots for a good trail run and potentially a group to run with. I might be from the land of spiders and snakes, but bears are another story! Planning on being safe but a bit nervous about running solo :)

Intro to bouldering, where to go

I'm interested in starting bouldering. I checked the Ground up gym programs and they only have adult programs for climbing. Do you know where to start? I don't have friends who boulder. I've heard that you can just go start it yourself but I wanted to know the basics. Thank you!

Edited: I wanted to start bouldering at the gym

Air quality

Hello! Wanting to visit Squamish from Vancouver tomorrow. Wondering if anyone has any insight on the quality of views from sea to sky, Squamish canyon, Squamish in general? Can you see much at this time?

Squamish Beer Festival 2026

Anyone know if this is happening this year? Their Instagram page says August 29, 2026 but the website has been "updates coming soon" for ages now. I suppose it's not a good sign that tickets haven't gone on sale yet as those were usually available to purchase months in advance in years past.

Moving trailer options

Has anyone used/picked up a U-Haul trailer in Squamish? Just looking at smaller cargo trailer options, but the U-Haul reservation website doesn’t have anything pop up for Squamish (seems like they exist though?). Needing it to move things from Squamish to the Island, so can’t do Home Depot because they require you to return to the pick up location I believe.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Strange Green Light

Can anyone shed any light on this light I captured in the small hours of the 13th? The light appeared at 00:53 pointing somewhat East, then moved to point almost straight up at 00:56 and stayed perfectly still that way for 2 minutes before disappearing completely.

This photo was taken pointing roughly North from the Highlands.

The colour resembles aurora, but the behaviour does not and the geomagnetic activity was low, I checked at the time. The first thing which came to mind was a search light of some sort, but I wasn't sure why a bright green light was being pointed straight up, not moving. The second thought, arguably more plausible, was a laser being used to polar align a star tracker, which would make sense given this was the Presides peak - that's what I was shooting too and with a tracker (no laser) - but the beam appeared far too broadly spread imo, and it wasn't pointing at Polaris. I did consider the broadness could be as a result of the laser being swept across the sky as my camera shot a 15 second exposure, but the light has the same contour lines in the following 6 photos, so that's unlikely.

If anyone has any ideas, cool or simple, please share.

Painting Old Squamish

Taking a new appreciation for the parts of Squamish remind me of its heritage and history. Perspective is a little wonky - but I think it gives it some charm.

Hot takes on Social 99?

Big D’s diner has been replaced of course by Social 99 on Cleveland.

Looked at the menu while waiting to go eat at the Saigon Café and it looked alright, but I’m wondering if the food matches the menu. Is it good now? Big D’s had a reputation for not being that great.

Sport Climbing Crags for 5.10a-d

Hello, what are the best sport climbing crags for 10s that have fairly decent approaches and higher density? Was looking at Chek, among other places. Ones that are further out, will they be accessible in a rental car (I.e., with low clearance) or not?

Any advice is much appreicated!

Camping at Stawamus Chief starting Monday - Will there be space?

Hi guys! 5 friends and I are planning a 3 day bouldering trip to Squamish starting Monday (eta: 8-9am), and we're planning on camping at Stawamus Chief. I was reading some forum posts and saw that August is typically peak season and it might be hard to find a pitch there? None of us have been there before, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's typically sites available?

Also, if we happen to get there and all of the sites are taken, where else could we camp? Mamquam River?

This is my first time planning a camping trip, so I'm a bit anxious. Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Squamish Adult Sport Leagues

hello fine folks of Squamish reddit!

I moved here last August and have been struggling to really find a community- what are some adult recreation leagues that folks have been joining? I love softball, love hockey and have the equipment, not always into soccer, I'd give basketball a go, but really open to anything.

I road/gravel bike and used to climb hard in the past but I'm looking for more recreational fun vibes and haven't been able to really find it yet. Any suggestions or groups to join would be welcomed!
