r/StarWarsArmada

I have 2 questions about rules

1: how does Adar Tallon work? Like, if I activate a squadron, move and attack with it, then deactivate it, could I then attack with it again in the squadron phase?

2: if I activate Fenn Rau with Yavaris, will the squadrons Fenn activates also have the Yavaris ability?

The Hunt for Screed – a multi-ruleset Star Wars Adventure

The following is an account of a legacy Star Wars wargaming campaign that my brother and I have designed and completed over the last year. I hope you enjoy reading about it as much as we enjoyed playing it!

Why did we do this?

My brother and I play own a lot of different tabletop miniatures games (including things like Hail Caesar, Silver Bayonet, Pillage, Black Seas, and MESBG). We don’t get to play together that often, or for more than a couple of hours, so some games definitely see more play than others. We struggled to find a reason to get some games on the table.

I first got the idea to create a campaign when I managed to get my hands on a Super Star Destroyer for Star Wars Armada. These are rare and getting rarer, and I was lucky enough to get one at a reasonable price on eBay. I already had a bit of an Armada collection, but I wanted to do the SSD justice.

I’d also just got a Star Wars Legion compatible model of one of our favourite characters, Kyle Katarn. My brother and I loved playing Dark Forces II Jedi Knight back in the 90s, and I was looking forward to painting him, but then started to think about how we could do a campaign using my Star Wars Legion models (with Kyle) leading up to a big space battle using my Armada stuff.

I then remembered that I had a small X-Wing collection that I’d not touched since before Covid, and that felt like a nice bridge between the ground combat of Legion, and the fleet combat of Armada. I found the final piece of the puzzle at the UK Games Expo 2025 in Birmingham, where I picked up a copy of 0200 hours, a WII commando wargame. I realised the rules would work perfectly with a handful of Legion models, and I started to plan!!!

The campaign

The campaign booklet with story, suggested forces, and pages for tracking results is available here - Star Wars Multi-Ruleset Campaign Guide - Shareable.pptx. We played each mission twice, swapping sides each time to have a go at using all the cool models on each side. We found it to be pretty even overall.

I designed a 4 part story, starting with a small commando raid using 0200 hours, then a dog fight using X-Wing, a ground battle with Legion, all leading into a big space battle finale with Armada.

I wanted each mission to influence and impact the future of the campaign, and a few of the objectives are all about the effect they have on the final big battle.

I set the story in the Legends universe, roughly 5/10 years after the Battle of Endor. The New Republic is firmly established, but the Imperial Remnant remains a threat. It’s most coherent with the Legends timeline and stories, but probably does clash somewhat. I also reused the character of Admiral Screed as my main villain, a character than I knew little about, but who happened to be available in Armada.

A lot of the story is as much inspired by the art and pictures I was able to cobble together from various online sources, including comic books, video games and movie stills. I absolutely don’t claim any of the visuals as my own, but am pretty proud of the story, albeit rudimentary, that I have been able to tell.

The armies / fleets in each battle are chosen mostly because they’re what I had in my collection. We did find the SSD to be VERY difficult to take down, and I’d probably adjust the rules to be more in favour of the New Republic in the last battle if we played again. I’m trying to get my hands on a Starhawk which would probably even the odds. We used the latest Legion rules, but stuck to 1.0 for X-Wing as I don’t have any 2.0 in my collection.

I’ve included some pictures from each of the games we played. If you like the look of the church in the 0200 game then check out this post I did last year - Dark age church finished : r/wargaming

What did we learn?

Firstly, it’s great fun to have a reason to get different miniatures games on the table, especially those you don’t always enjoy as much or struggle to find time to play. It breathed some new life into bits of my collection that were gathering dust, and formed some great memories of tight battles with my brother.

I probably found X-wing the easiest game to pick up and play, everything just feels really simple and sensible. We both found the use of keywords excessive in Legion. We spent loads of time constantly looking up keywords during the first battle, and found it much easier when we printed off a custom glossary for the second one.

0200 hours adapted really well to Star Wars, and the mechanics of the sentries on patrol with Stormtroopers was really thematic. I really don’t like the shooting though, so may try a mash-up of 0200 rules with Legion shooting next time. I do also want to try the Legion Special Operations rules too.

Finally

Please do let me know if you run your own version of my campaign, or if this inspires you to do something similar with your own story and rulesets.

I want to say thank you to jocke01 who posted the following on the FFG forum back in 2019. I used their custom Legion profile for Kyle and it worked brilliantly - FFG Forum Archive.

Homebrew printing

With Armada being dropped and the new ARC, Legacy, and Nexus being dropped I've been looking on Etsy and ive found most of the things I want however especially when it comes to tokens especially for ships im not finding everything i want or i have to buy and entire set i dont need.

I was curious as to if anyone knows the best ways to do it yourself. I honestly just dont know how to make the card prints myself and I dont know where to get started with 3D printing for the ships, squadrons, and tokens I want.

I don't really know much about the game but I am selling a lot of ships and pieces

I tried to ask about a valuation and some recommendations for selling this stuff but my post was locked instantly for some reason. Anyway let me know if you have any questions.

Help with pricing and what I have in general from someone who knows nothing about this game.

I purchased all of these ships and components years ago with ambitions to play with my friend. That never really happened. Fast forward a few years and I have a new baby and bills to pay :/

I scrolled through Ebay quickly and it turns out some of this is valuable. Can you all let me know what I am working with here? Should I list this as a lot or try to piece it out? I don't know what cards and chips go to what ships so I am leaning towards just selling as a lot and let the buyer sort it out since they probably know what the pieces are. I understand putting it as an auction would be my best bet, but I am also hoping for maybe a fair "buy-it-now" price for the lot.

If I mail this, should I take the ships off the bases?

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

First play

I learned of Armada way too late. I never even put it on my list to own as the second hand market prices seem too steep for me. Recently, I found a LGS that had it in their library and played it for the first time. I’m simultaneously hooked and absolutely blown away at how much fun this game is. Games with such relatively simple rules that allow the depth of play to shine through feel more and more rare. I’m really kicking myself that I didn’t get in on this years ago. Is there hope that the FF Vault might reproduce in a crowdfunding or am I just stuck with the second hand market?

What are your thoughts on the Nexus V-Wings?

I was hoping for these for a bit. A counter interceptor to be the Republic counterpart to things like the Tri-Fighter and A-Wing, and something to replace the V-19 (because I don't like the look of them.)

They trade two hull for one speed, and replace the red in the anti squadron with a blue, and th black in anti ship with a blue. And lose escort for counter 2. Honestly, the A-Wing is a good point of comparison. They'll hit into the enemy, probably take out one squadron and counter another, and then explode. Although, since they're very cheap, they'll usually trade up.

Shadow Squadron is… something. Trading counter for bomber makes him better against ships, but I'm not sure that's what we need here.

Klick reminds me of Shara. Maybe it's just because his counter hits harder. But with that and his scatter, he'll definitely go down with a favorable point trade, and help clear the way for your slower bombers to go in.

The Nexus Dreadnought

So, I apparently am late to the game, but did I just notice the Dreadnought has finally been cleared to grace the table?

I'm not on Discord because I am an absolute luddite when it comes to that app. I cannot for the life of me navigate it. So... how do I know which base size it is? I'm assuming medium? Can anyone point me to a resource where I can print those gorgeous bases and make my own?

Also... V-Wings ans Clone Z-95s... yes please. What a time to be alive.

Raddus vs Raddus Battle Report

Repost due to initial issues uploading.

It’s been too long since I put actual ships on a table. This was a match from a week ago, it was very interesting as I’ve never played Raddus against himself. I hope you enjoy.

Let me know your thoughts, suggestions etc? I hope to do these everytime I play in person…

Modular Taskforce Cruiser

Painted PrintedStarships/Pulsefired's new Modular Taskforce Cruiser model. I'm not really a big Dark Empire fan, but I have liked the design of the MTC and it's role at the edge of Imperial operations as a support vessel. Thrilled to have this one ready to go!

Reaper Capital Ship and Harbinger - Mass Effect proxy models

It has taken many weeks of sculpting and testing and tweaking but I have finally completed my Reaper model and Harbinger variant! All models sculpted, printed, and painted by me. I'm thrilled with how well these came out and how impressively large they look on the table!

You can find these if you search PinionRobotPrints!
