My 532nd Steel Legion "Die-Hards" so far

Soldiers of Armageddon!

Been a long term fan of the Legion, and after doing some 3D prints decided to finally commit to doing some kitbashes with Cadians as the base. I quickly got into the concept of a battle-hardened armoured company, decided on "Yarrick Company" in homage to the big man, and "Die Hards" to represent that despite the Greenskins' (and GW's) efforts, they're still standing.

Particularly proud of the i-can't-believe-it's-not-Kasrkin Stormtroopers, since I wanted to use a lot in my army but keep the classic look of Steel Legion Infantry intact.

For my next trick, I wanted to replicate the original look of the Armageddon boys by removing the shoulder pads, so the last picture is my first attempt at doing so (WIP)

First 1000pts

Finally got my first 1000pts painted.

Pretty happy with how it's coming together so far.

Hoping to try out a game of 11th edition with them. But they'll most likely see more action playing 4th edition or OPR.

Ustor Velex, 'ol' firebreather'

Stormblade of the reconstituted 22nd 'steelheads' Armageddon Steel Legion.

Thought some might appreciate my freshly finished stormblade! Working on the rest of the 3000 point army to go with her but still quite a bit of painting left foe that milestone.

How much Mechanized Infantry is too much Mechanized Infantry

With the new Dispositions in 11th, I was making a mech assault + designation force list, running the recon disposition. And i was thinking about 6 Chimeras, each with a squad of 10 cadians, 3 led by castellans, 2 led by commisars. Then i have a dorn commander and standard dorn, and scout sentinels plus gaunts ghosts. I might try to find room for Yarrick for theme and also a second reactive move

The game plan is, if i have to do actions, my opponent cannot stop 6 chimeras from driving up, dropping off a squad, which then actions, and with 6 of them, even if my opponent kills a bunch of them, i still have enough to do the job. And if i gotta be in table quarters, that seems insanely easy to do with so many units to do it.

In terms of anti infantry, i have a ton of heavy bolters on the chimeras plus the shock troops, who have plasma, melta, a ton of lasguns, half of them have sus1, they all have +1 to wound.

For anti tank, i have two dorns with melta, and a total of 8 hunter killers, plus all the shock troops with +1 to wound melta. I won’t be killing all that much, but its not horrendous.

Idk if im a genius or an idiot, but 6 chimeras with cheap bodies in them seems like too much for your opponent to reasonably chew through before you run away with scoring. the two commisars are for holding objectives, for 30 points you get a unit with 32OC, and 5+ leadership re-rolling, meaning you are borderlone immune to battleshock with those units, and even if 2/3 of the unit dies, you are still out-OCing most units, denying your opponent points while you easily score your primary and secondaries.

Curse you, Thraka! I hereby vow! You will rue this day!

Got Ghazghkull and Yarrick. One of my steel legionnaires for comparison. (Painting isn't finished I'm trying to make my own calcs, might post when I'm done). Honestly scared to paint these two because as I think the gal shows I ain't the best. But anyway wanted to make the post because as critical as I am of everything geedubs. (And scared I am of how they'll mess up the steel legion now with the new lore.) I do want to congratulate them on these 2 sculpts. As can be seen Yarrick is indeed roughly human sized (if taller than average) yet between the base, uniform and pose clearly stands out in size appearing larger than he actually is. Which both helps make him stand out in the army as he should and more importantly helps make him look a lot like his *cough*lover*cough* nemesis, who is a lot less subtle about being an absolutely MASSIVE monster of an ork. Also yarrick having a backpack now helps a lot in making him look like a human ghazghkull, which has made me realize the other similarities in their design. Seems our Ahab and his green whale are slowly inching closer in design with each iteration... Now I just have to paint them. Oh lord give me strength.

Are these real? Thanks!

I have an opportunity to purchase a steel legion army. Do these look real?

Are these recasts?

Bought some used SL models from ebay and am currently in the process of restoring them, but I have noticed that a few of them have these weird little metal half circles above their left hands. I cant find this on any of the painted "official" pictures nor on pics of unpainted models. Are they recasts? I know that metal recasts are quite rare but they do exist but the models were caked up in old paint so that seems kinda unlikely.
