Going to Stereo for first time... not sure what to expect

Going to Montreal for the first time and people keep telling me that we (my bf and I, gay couple) need to go to stereo.

I bought tickets for next Friday night, July 17. I gather there is no alcohol served.

For context we go to rave parties in Toronto a lot. Prism events, Comfort Zone, bunker....etc. Usually gay themed events, but we are fine with a straight event or crowd as well. We adjust our style of dancing to the crowd. We sometimes take shirts off but also leave them on if that is not the vibe of the place.

Any suggestions or anything we need to know or anything we need to bring?

Mita Gami day dance was amazing

Thank you to the Stereo team, ForgiveMeTommy and Mita Gami for the incredible beats. I absolutely loved that it was from 4 to 11pm and that I was home by midnight. It was the perfect movement I needed. I hope that Stereo does more day dances like this. I didn't stop from 6 till the end.

Nick Warren

First time back to Stereo in over 10 years, can’t wait! What time do we think Nick Warren will come out and finish up at? Trying to plan the night accordingly and hopefully get a nap in beforehand 😂

Looking for a lost StereoBar / Stereo Montreal 2005 promo CD (DJ Saturnin?)

Hey everyone,

I’m on a mission to track down a piece of Montreal club history that was unfortunately stolen from me years ago, and I'm hoping some old-school Stereo heads might be able to help me out.

Back in March 2005, @ StereoBar with a friend when someone handed us an official StereoBar mix CD. I listened to it for almost a year until it was stolen. At the time, I was running with a questionable crowd and living a chaotic lifestyle, so the disc vanished before I could back it up. Now that I’ve moved past that chapter of my life, I’m trying to reclaim some of the good memories, and this music is a huge piece of the puzzle.

It was a full mix—probably around 9 to 11 tracks total. I can't remember the full tracklist, but thanks to some digging, I’ve been able to pinpoint two massive tracks that were definitely on it:

Röyksopp - "What Else Is There?" (Trentemøller Remix) – specifically during the breakdown with the "And the flashlights..." lyrics.

A heavy tech-house track using the iconic Chicago house vocal sample: "It was about 6:15 in the morning. I'm drunk, and I'm high, and I'm in Chicago. And I walked to the corner to hail a cab..." (Either a live mashup, or a track built around it like Neelix's "Taxi Driver").

The Details:

Venue/Date: Inside Stereo / StereoBar (Montreal), specifically around March 2005. But

The mixed CD: I’m pretty sure it was DJ Saturnin

Someone must have this ripped onto a hard drive somewhere. If anyone remembers this specific mix, has the files, or could upload it to a Google Drive to share, it would honestly mean the world to me.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for proper underground hard techno in Montreal

Hey everyone,

I'll be in Montreal soon and I'm looking to check out the city's underground hard techno scene.

I'm mainly into industrial techno and hardgroove. I'm not really interested in commercial clubs, EDM, or business techno.

I'm looking for warehouse parties, afterhours, underground venues, or collectives that regularly put on this kind of music.

If you have any venue recommendations, collectives, or Instagram pages I should follow, I'd really appreciate it.

Recondite @ Stereobar

It will be my first time.

I'm driving from Toronto.

Anyone know roughly set times for each person?

Im gonna do it crash course style. Leave sat afternoon, do the event, leave right after.

Anyone have any advice on how to prep for stereobar? Is the sound system just as good as stereo?

I understand no phone photos or recordings which is fine, but is tap water cups free?

Did we do something wrong?

Hi everyone!

I (30F) visited Stereo only once, with my boyfriend. He absolutely loves the sound system there and he’s a DJ for fun, so he loves great sets. We wanted to dance together all night. We went on a Saturday at 4 a.m. and we didn’t know the DJ, but we were happy to discover him.

However, we had a rather unpleasant experience. My boyfriend had a great time the last time he was there, but this time, the ambiance felt aggressive and strange. I couldn’t dance without feeling uncomfortable and even with my boyfriend behind me, I felt like people were trying to grope me. Even he felt like people were bumping him and pushing him out of the way. I just wanted to close my eyes and dance to the music but I couldn’t.

It’s hard to explain, but we go to raves and EDM festivals often, and I’ve never felt this way before. We changed places multiple times and weren’t in anyone’s way, but we were never left alone to dance. Finally, I felt unsafe and left.

Did we do something wrong? I was wondering if we could go to the right side instead, just to dance and have a good time? I think usually as a straight couple we are supposed to be on the left side, but I’m not sure of the rules.

I think I need help figuring out the unwritten rules and understanding why this experience was so bad for me. Do you have any advice?

I love to discover new DJs and to dance so it saddens me that I didn’t like it!!

What time should I come to Nicole Moudaber for tech house?

I’ve heard she splits her set in two, techno and tech house, and stops by 9AM the last two times she was here.

I am listening her set at Laster Club right now…soooooooo goood! She would be perfect at the temple. Also, she was in Toronto not too long ago so no visa issue. Manifestation to the power that be 😎

First time at Stereo

As the title suggests, I’m going to Stereo tomorrow night, for the first time ever. I’m flying in from western Canada specifically for this night. This will be my second time in Montreal - absolutely love your city and everything it has to offer.

I was hoping to find out:

  1. What is the optimum time for me online up at Stereo?
  2. I bought coat check with my entry ticket. I have a backpack with me I was hoping to coat check. Is the service safe and secure?
  3. Not the right forum to ask this but where could I get any candies? lol
  4. Any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance! Very exciting for tomorrow - it’s my summer pilgrimage to a techno/electronic music destination. Summer 2025 was Berghain, following winter was Vent Tokyo and now Stereo. Look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.

Edit:

Thank you all - helps me a lot!!
Further questions:

  1. How queer friendly is the space? I’m assuming - a lot of - considering it’s in the gay village.
  2. Are there dark rooms? Do people hook up?
  3. Is G usage a thing - something to be wary of?
