Montreal – Looking for a warehouse or industrial space for a proper DIY rave

Hey everyone,

I'm one of the organizers behind a local electronic music collective in Montreal, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to point us in the right direction.

One of the biggest challenges we've faced over the years is finding a venue where people can genuinely dance until the morning on a proper sound system. Between noise restrictions, liquor laws, and venue limitations, it's becoming harder and harder to create the kind of experience that made so many of us fall in love with this scene.

We've been fortunate enough to organize events in different venues around Montreal, and we recently had the privilege of curating a night at the legendary Stereo Montreal. But lately, I keep coming back to the idea of doing something completely different: a proper DIY warehouse rave.

We're looking for a warehouse, industrial building, or unique space within about 30 minutes of Montreal that could potentially host this kind of event. Ideally, somewhere where we could build the experience from scratch, bring in a serious sound system, and create something that feels raw and authentic.

I know these places aren't usually advertised publicly, and I completely understand if people don't want to post locations openly. If anyone has any leads, knows someone who owns a suitable space, or has experience organizing events in this type of venue, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a DM.

Would love to hear any ideas or advice.

Thanks ❤️

Ben Sims

I think Stereo should bring Ben Sims one day.

I don't know if I've ever heard of him playing in North America, though I know he makes rare appearances. A night at Stereo would be special, I think.

Âme (Live) & Trikk (09/19)

Super excited to come to Stereo for the first time with my wife. Looking forward to experiencing what is supposed to be one of the best sound systems in the world. On a side note I’m arriving Friday evening and staying until Sunday 1pm. Does anyone have recommendations on food or places to visit in Montreal?

How is the sound at SAT?

I'm not sure if this is off topic so feel free to delete/lock the thread if it is.

There are some upcoming techno shows at the SAT that I'd love to check out, mainly DJ Nobu and some of the Mutek stuff. However, the last time I time went to SAT, I think it was pre-covid, the sound was pretty bad. It made the experience altogether pretty hard to enjoy.

Apparently they've upgraded the sound system since then? Obviously I'm not expecting Stereo level sound quality but if anyone who's been recently can comment on the overall sound that would be awesome!

Hernán Cattáneo - next stereo date

Does anyone have any intel on when Hernán will be back? Based on the below history, and the assumption that he tends to follow a similar tour schedule year to year, my best guess is 21 Nov. Anyone know??

Past dates:

Sam 25 Nov 2023 - 24h marathon with Patrice Bäumel

2024 - n/a

Sam 22 Nov 2025 - 24h marathon with Patrice Bäumel

?? Sam 21 Nov 2026 ??

Any life hacks for a marathon night on the dance floor?

Friday night will be my first night at Stereo. Anyone got any advice/ hacks for getting through the whole night? What’s the water/ food situation? Can I pack an extra t-shirt and check it in a bag and change later? Just wondering what the situation is. Thanks for any advice.

Need Advice: Oct 10 V Calderone / Oct 11 M Schulz / Oct 31 D Tenaglia Scareo

TLDR: Tight on time and budget. Please help me decide who to see to plan a trip to Montreal.

Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help me. So 3 of my long-time favourite DJs are visiting Stereo, and I'm trying to plan a trip to Montreal in October. I know I would love to see them all, but I'm not sure my body could handle so much rolling lol or that I could afford a hotel and expenses in Montreal for a month. Below is a summary of my last few experiences with each so you can correct me if things have changed about their set styles and energy the last few times you've seen them at Stereo, and then tell what you'd do if you were in my shoes. 🙏

Victor Calderone: I saw him in 2024 at a mid-size nightclub, and in 2025 at an after, and both times were amazing. Obscure, powerful, decadent atmospheres with deep bass sounds and high energy. The Victor I know and remember. I read in recent posts of this subreddit that he's been leaning more gospel house and high-pitched diva vocals and overall lower energy than his traditional sets, which I wouldn't dig much. Is this still the case? I've never attended a Marathon with Victor. Is it worth it? Is my experience similar or different from yours?

Markus Schulz: Same, 2024 and 2025. Fantastic high-energy Progressive Trance sets with a few sprinkles of other genres here and there. More pauses than needed, but when he pushed down the gas pedal, the energy literally went through the roof, and I almost couldn't handle it. Both times were only 5-hour sets, but the last time the owner oversold the club and I couldn't move or dance. It ruined my night, and I was so upset I left before he finished his set. I'm pretty sure seeing him at Stereo will be a completely different experience. With all that being said, I've never experienced a Marathon with Markus; it sounds exciting but scary lol.

Danny Tenaglia: It's been so long. I think it was in 2017 and in 2021 maybe? Both times were at Stereo but were NOT SCAREO. On both occasions, I felt like I didn't get to experience the Danny I hear in his most energetic DJ sets, like the Danny of the 90s or early 2000s. Do you feel the same? I know he's aged and might not have the same energy as before, but I have mad respect for seniority, and IMO, if anything, a DJ's musical taste only improves with time, and Danny has always had a very refined musical taste to start. Does the SCAREO Marathon merit a visit to see Danny again but in a different environment? I know it's one of the best nights of the year. Besides Danny, what else makes SCAREO special? Anything new to see and feel? For context, I've never been to Scareo. It would be my first time.

What would you do if you could only see 1 or 2 of them but not all 3? Please comment your Top 1 and Top 2 options, and why. Many thanks in advance 🙏

Ostrich was on one last night

10/10, no notes

(Also I apologize on behalf of the Torontonians that invaded the club and did not understand the culture)

ADA Accessibility

Hi all,

I am on a mission to visit the best clubs around the world and I keep hearing nothing but the best things about Stereo. However, I recently came across a reel where there was a complaint in the comments that this venue is not wheelchair-friendly or ADA accessible. Is this true?

For context, I am a wheelchair user but can walk up some set of stairs and dont mind doing so as long as I can have assistance getting my wheelchair up the stairs.

Thanks!

Fierte weekend: Stereo or District Events ?

Hi! I’m trying to decide for Friday and Saturday nights - head to Stereo or go to the District Events Locker Room and Inferno. Where will the music & atmosphere be better ? Best gay time ?
