Why does Stremio's website have AI images on it now?

I don't know when this changed, but I went back to the website to check something and was seriously put off by this. I don't trust any company that uses AI images, so that's got me worried about what's going on.

They used to have real movies and series in their images too. I would get if there was maybe some kind of legal trouble there, but I'd rather you don't use pictures at all than resort to AI slop like this.

YouTube only playing in 1/4 of screen after watching Stremio video? Sony Bravia 85”

Hey everyone,

I’m having a weird issue with my Sony Bravia 85-inch TV. After playing a video on Stremio, YouTube only plays in about a quarter of the screen. The rest of the screen is just black.

Before Stremio: YouTube works normally, full screen

After Stremio: YouTube stuck in small corner, can’t resize to full screen

Have to restart the tv eveytime this happens to fix it.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any solutions?

Thanks in advance!

Just want to say the new Stremio update is awful

I don't know if they vibecoded it and didn't test it well or what, but every episode I play seems to slow down mid-way through and I need to reset. This wasn't an issue before. On Mint Mate here. Maybe focus on reliability and smoothness/speed over pretty new features.

Another note, when I tried to update on my main computer running debian, it requested new permissions for access to my Downloads folder. I decided to uninstall the program on that machine instead. Why does it need permissions for my Downloads folder? Overall unhappy with the new update but the app has been wonderfully useful in the past so I don't want to sound too overly critical.

New update made the software freeze at the end of every episode - Flatpak, Linux Mint

Stremio has been working really well for almost a year, but the new update made it borderline unusable. At the end of an episode (sometimes I'd click on the next episode transition, sometimes I'd try to exist the player), the software completely freezes and I'd have to end the process through a system monitor app just for it to close.

Most times the next episode would play the audio and subtitles, but a completely black screen and the player is stuck on --:--:--. I wouldn't be able to click on anything in the app to stop it.

Has anyone been able to use stremio on webos26 yet?

I’m looking to buy a new 2026 LG oled but after hearing the issues with the stremio app not being available to download I wanted to check if it was fixed yet. In the few posts I saw, the devs said the app was under review and will be added soon so I was wondering if it has worked for anyone yet.

I know I can use an apple TV or nvidia shield but I’ve been using the stremio app on webos25 and it works great for me.

Best Version on Android Firestick

Edit: I update the new one and it seems to be working great so far (one show was just loading black for a bunch of options but others were okay and I found a file that was fine so I think it was just those versions for some reason)

Original:

Noticed there’s some newer versions avail. I’m on 1.9.3 currently.

Should I update? Seems like there’s complaints about the newest versions.

Also, assuming I update, anyone know how to distinguish which of the 4 is right for my firestick?

Thanks!

Not satisfied with the Stremio V5 experience on Steam Deck

I was looking forward to the new release for Linux but several issues made this update feel more like a downgrade for the Steam Deck. Here's some of my thoughts:

  1. Fullscreen both not default and barely functional. There is seemingly no way to force fullscreen on startup, where this was a feature in the previous versions.
  2. Gamepad functionality is a joke. It's true, you can use B to go back from a menu, or scroll through a row with left and right on a d-pad, but going up and down is clunky and unusable. There is also no way to easily go between home/search/etc or open the settings without using trackpads or touchscreen.
  3. No way to intuitively close the app. In any other app/game/whatever pressing B (the back button) should and usually does eventually get you to a point where you are prompted if you want to close the program. This is not the case with Stremio. In fact, nearly every single way I've attempted to prompt the app to close has failed. Holding STEAM + B on the deck forces nearly any game or app to close, but doesn't nothing for Stremio. Using Steam input to bind a keypress to "force game shutdown" does nothing either. I am forced to open the overlay and select exit game which brings me to
  4. Performance is now abysmal. The previous versions had zero issues using my GPU or resources of the steam deck, but the new update, for one reason or another, uses a crazy about of memory and gpu, and has on several occasions crashed (sometimes when attempting to open steam overlay).

I'm really not trying to complain for the sake of complaining but this newest update feels more like a downgrade and I wish it was better than what it is. I wonder if anyone else has been encountering these issues and if there's any way to fix or remedy some of these.

How can I fix dark playback issue?

Playback in Stremio is noticeable darker than it should be. When I stream the same video in VLC it's normal. You can see in the second pic.

Is this due to specific file types? I'm not sure if it happens all the time but lately it's been most of the time. (Stremio Version 5.1.25, macOS 15.7 )

Endless buffering regardless of what I try to watch since the new stremio update

TCL TV and fireatick 4k pro max with torbox.

I've tried everything i can think of, I literally cannot watch anything on stremio after the 1.9.8 update. However I noticed that if I disable hardware accelerated decoding then things will load but it will be horribly choppy, so no difference really.

[Bug/Feature Request] Isolated the exact hardware/memory root cause for 4K buffering on Hisense VIDAA OS (Confirmed by Hisense)

Hey everyone and Stremio devs,

I have spent a lot of time digging into this and have successfully isolated the exact hardware pipeline root cause for why 4K streams (even small, cached Real-Debrid files) hit endless buffering or freeze within 30 seconds on Hisense TVs running VIDAA OS.

This affects both Stremio Web in the native browser and the official Stremio Lite app app store build.

### The Technical Root Cause

* **The Chipsets:** These TVs use MediaTek SOCs (like MT5879/MTK9618).

* **The Pipeline Bottleneck:** The MediaTek hardware video decoder uses a direct video overlay path to route decoded video straight to the display panel. Native apps (Netflix, Prime Video, and the TV's native DLNA media renderer) use this direct pathway, allowing perfect 4K HEVC playback.

* **The Browser Lock:** VIDAA OS deliberately disables this hardware overlay path for the browser process and web-app wrapper shells. Because of this software lock, decoded frames are forced into a tiny, general-purpose memory buffer (~16MB).

* **The Result:** Massive 4K HEVC frames instantly exhaust this small 16MB allocation within seconds. This looks like network buffering to the user, but it's actually a memory buffer pipeline failure inside the OS.

### How I Confirmed This

  1. Streaming a 4K HEVC file via a Real-Debrid cached link inside the Stremio VIDAA web wrapper causes instant freezing.

  2. Sending the exact same 4K HEVC stream URL via UPnP/DLNA to the TV’s native media player renderer (using apps like Web Video Caster) plays perfectly at maximum bitrates with ZERO buffering because it uses the native video pipeline.

  3. **Hisense/VIDAA support formally investigated my findings under ticket #19576 and officially replied confirming that this hardware overlay browser restriction is correct.**

### The Fix / Request for Stremio Devs

Since the TV's native media player can play these files perfectly when called directly, could the Stremio team implement a **Native Player Handoff / external player invocation** for the VIDAA OS app?

If the app can hand off the cached stream link directly to the TV's native media renderer socket (similar to launching VLC/JustPlayer as an external player on Android), it would entirely bypass the browser limitation and unlock flawless 4K streaming for millions of VIDAA users.

I have officially opened a bug report on the Stremio GitHub tracking this here: https://github.com/Stremio/stremio-bugs/issues/2651

HDR Issues (Windows)

Hello! I recently got an OLED monitor (XG27AQDMGR). I calibrated the HDR through the windows calibration tool and it does look pretty good, considering the panel. I noticed that when I try to watch something that has any form of HDR,it looks pretty dull and less bright than SDR. I understand how HDR works,if I try to watch an HDR demo on YouTube,it looks as it should, highlights pop and it is an overall better picture than SDR. Do you guys have any recommendations or suggestions? I am using the internal player and I am thinking of switching to an external one.

EDIT: u/Next-Excitement1398 stepped in and resolved every single one of my issues. Please refer to the comment thread below for the solution!

The problem is the native player itself. If any stremio mods/devs are reading this, please, take a look at this thread. The services that you provide us with are wonderful, but there is so much that we are missing out on and we have to choose between watching our content as intended or giving away all of the QoL improvements that the internal player provides. I hope that we get a fix,or a solution that mitigates/resolves something as important as proper content consumption without missing on the wonderful QoL features that you guys have provided us with for years!

Stremio Series/Movies track

Hello everyone,

As you may know, TVtime is going to be shut down, so I'd like to ask for your recommendations on which app or tool I should use to track everything I watch. If it integrates with Stremio, even better.

Do you have any recommendations? I'd really appreciate your help!
