Flutist/music educator reacts to Tommy Shaw & CYO - "Fooling Yourself".

NittPicc is a millennial-age youtuber/music reactor from Texas. She is also a concert flutist and music educator with 2 degrees in music, teaching High School band as well as private lessons.

Other than "Mr. Roboto" and possibly "Come Zail Away", she has little to no knowledge of Styx, but gives a very exuberant reaction to these kids cranking out this classic and offers some knowledge of the innerworkings of an orchestra.

Most of her youtube reactions are for more current music, especially Japanese rock acts like Band-Maid, etc. but she has a number of classic rock reactions too if you want to check them out.. Beatles, Van Morrison, The Guess Who, Dan Fogelberg, Canned Heat, The Monkees, Sting & the Chieftains, Mike Oldfield, Santana, Jethro Tull...

How exactly did the Edge of The Century era end?

I keep hearing conflicting stories about how that lineup of Styx ended up breaking up. Some people say that it was just a continuation of the same old fighting and drama between Dennis and JY that existed since the Cornerstone era, but I'm also hearing that they were actually getting along in that period and wanted to do a follow-up album with Glen Burtnik but A&M basically said "no Tommy, no Styx" and dumped them because of that.

Its an interesting era because a lot of people in the media were treating that era as Styx's "big comeback", arguably even moreso than the Return to Paradise era when Tommy did eventually return. They made appearances on Rick Dees Into The Night and Arsenio Hall, Love is The Ritual got attention on Headbangers Ball, they were headlining arenas on the ensuing tour, and then it all went poof in 92 like it never happened.

First time opinions/ thoughts on their big 1983 hit, “Mr. Roboto”?

I actually discovered the song from a birthday card that I got when I was just seven years old from my aunt that was about a toy wind up robot, lol. It played the “Domo Arigato” part of the song, lol. I IMMEDIATELY found it to be a very fun and catchy tune. But it wasn’t until later that year (in 2007) when I finally listened to the full song on YouTube.

LOVED it right off the bat. Quirky sci fi and robot themes, lyrics about an insecure but still tough/ trying hard man and of course the famous “Domo Arigato” “breakdown” type part of the song, lol.

Definitely an iconic song of the decade. ❤️👍 (10/10)

Backwards satanic versus in rock ‘n’ roll

I was just reading that part of the inspiration for the Styx Mr. Roboto were accusations that they put backwards satanic versus in their music. Has this ever been proved against any major rock band?
