How to fix SwiftKey closing multiple times per use?

Been using SwiftKey for 10+ years with no issues. In the past six months to a year after the most recent IOS update to 26, it has been switching to default keyboard on and off randomly, but usually just once. Within the past month, it does this like 4-5 times per use. So if I'm messaging someone quickly, I have to constantly switch back to SwiftKey. Then when I go to another message or anything I have to type it'll do it again. It's gotten to the point that I'm here asking you all since I'm about to just delete the app.

I used to care about better predictions. Now I want an agentic keyboard that actually does things.

I’ve used SwiftKey on and off for years because the predictions beat the stock keyboard. It learned my weird typing habits, and for a long time, that was enough.

But lately, I’ve been thinking about how much trust we give keyboards. It sits inside everything: texts, notes, emails, random half-baked thoughts. If an app gets that much access, it should bring more to the table than just "slightly better autocorrect."

For me, the worst part of mobile isn't typing, it’s app-switching. You’re in a chat, need to look something up, jump to a browser, search, copy, hop back, and paste. By then, you’ve completely lost your train of thought. It kills the flow.

That’s why Acti caught my eye. It feels less like a passive keyboard and more like an "agentic" one. I can type what I need directly in the input field and trigger actions right there, without leaving the app.

It’s definitely a shift. We're used to keyboards just fixing typos or suggesting emojis. But this feels like turning the keyboard into a functional shortcut layer for actual tasks.

I’m not saying everything needs AI, but if a keyboard wants that level of trust, it should do more than just guess my next word.

If you type fast on a Mac, the OS has been eating your Caps Lock presses

Found out recently that macOS ignores any Caps Lock press shorter than about 75 ms. It's deliberate, an anti-accidental-toggle feature. Which is fine, until your natural tap speed is faster than 75 ms, at which point Caps Lock just randomly fails, and you get "iM" and "hELLO" and assume you fumbled it.

Quick test: tap Caps as fast as you physically can, then type. If you're quick enough, it won't have registered at all.

I got annoyed enough to build a little menu bar app that removes the delay permanently. It's called FastKey, and there's a side-by-side tap test on the site if you want to feel the difference: https://fastkey.syrianapps.co.uk

Genuinely curious though: what WPM are you at, and have you noticed Caps misses? My bet is that basically everyone above ~90 WPM has hit this without ever knowing why.

btw, if u r interested, lmk I have 10 free keys for those who are interested!, hope u find it helpful!

Has anyone heard of Clinks?

I was browsing threads and saw a post on this keyboard. Decided to give it a try as iOS has limited keyboard options. Its pretty decent.

Themes are beautiful and the glow on liquid glass looks nice.

Autocorrect is kinda meh, but i JUST started using the keyboard so I’ve been giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Just wanted to share my find see if anyone else heard of it. No this isn’t a sponsored post i just was curious if anyone else has used this yet.

Gboard vs SwiftKey! The saga continues, "Quick prediction insert"

I've been moving between SwiftKey and Gboard for years, and quite often settle with SwiftKey. However, of late I've been frustrated with SwiftKey on my tablet using a third-party physical keyboard. I decided to give Gboard a try on my physical keyboard and, would you know, I'm having far fewer typos! Gboard has been very good when typing using a physical keyboard, compared to SwiftKey. However, without a keyboard, I still prefer the "Quick prediction insert" on SwiftKey as it's quicker to type. Why on earth can't Google just adopt the "Quick prediction insert" from SwiftKey!

Keyboard not automatically opening

Does anybody else have an issue with the keyboard not automatically opening when text fields get focus? Sometimes when I switch to WhatsApp or try to Find in Page in Firefox, the keyboard doesn't show.

If I pull up from the bottom of the screen to invoke the system app switcher, I can see the keyboard show up in the preview. Press the app and I can type.

I'm using the beta.

Someone please recommend a replacement for SwiftKey

I'm losing my goddamn mind at how SHIT SwiftKey is now. I've quite literally used this for 10 YEARS now and it's gotten so fucking broken that I have to flee to a different app. Please, someone recommend one that is similar!

Text replacement hell - need help

Hi folks,

At some point a couple years ago, I think I accidentally accepted a typo, and it has gotten stuck in SwiftKey and I can't seem to get it to forget this correction. When I type "I'm" I have always typed Im, and for years SwiftKey correctly changed it to I'm. Several years ago, I managed to hit the period and the m (so I.m), and it got auto corrected to I.I'm, which I unfortunately accepted before I realized what had happened. Now every time I type Im, it changes it to I.I'm. This has been going on for a couple years now. I've checked text replacement in iOS to make sure it's not there (it's not), and have tried to get Swiftkey to forget this correction and for the life of me I can't. When I added the MS account, I thought it said this would cause it to forget my previously learned stuff, but alas, I.I'm still getting I.I'm (I'm on my PC...I did that on purpose here).

I know there's a lot of hate here since MS took over, and I'm not looking for suggestions for other keyboards. I'm just soliciting ways to undo or delete this auto replacement suggestion in Swiftkey. I've corrected it for years and it doesn't stop.

Thanks!

Can no longer swipe over space bar to move cursor

I can no longer swipe over the space bar to move the cursor. Is this a bug or did they remove that feature? Before anyone asks: I have it set to the bottom option in the swipe input section. And this is the beta version of swiftkey

Are there any good keyboard apps out there that is open source and privacy focused?

I recently got an iPhone and found the apple keyboard severely lacking when it comes to customizations and features that I got used to on my android. I don’t like the fact that I can’t set up custom keybindings or long press to reveal hidden keys and use them, or to add a number row.

Are there any keyboards I can download that have these features apart from gboard and swift as they are owned by big tech companies and need full access to work properly?

Can someone give feedback on my keyboard app

I'd love some feedback on my keyboard app. In this video I'm only showcasing the keyboard itself

I intentionally didn't include any AI features, and all AI services can be completely disabled. The demo covers glide typing, word suggestions, turbo delete, cursor control, emojis, GIFs, stickers, Sticker Studio, and more. It also supports multiple languages, although I didn't show that here. I'm looking for honest feedback on the typing experience, UI, animations, and anything that feels off or could be improved. Thanks!

In terms of customizations, it offers Material 3 and wallpaper color themes.

Is the iPhone version of swiftkey the same as the iPad version?

Edit: I don't understand why people are downvoting a genuine question?

Hey guys,

I'm considering switching to iPhone after being an Android user for nearly 18 years. The only thing holding me back is the keyboard. I tried out the keyboard on a display iPhone 17 in store and found the stock keyboard to be just as bad as people online say it is. I'm a sloppy typer and rely quite heavily on autocorrect, and the iPhone I tried wasn't correcting any of my common mistakes like Gboard does on my S23.

Opinions on third party keyboard for iOS seem to be divided. Some people say they're a game changer, others say they're crippled by Apple to be nothing more than a glorified reskin.

Unfortunately I was unable to install any third party apps on the display model to test them out myself. However, I own an iPad which I use pretty much exclusively for drawing. Almost no typing so the keyboard hasn't bothered me.

I just downloaded Gboard, SwiftKey, and Grammarly on my ipad. I tested the three keyboards with purposley mispelled words, and compared the results to the stock iPad keyboard, and Gboard on my S23.

To my surprise, the third party keyboards were miles better than the stock iOS keyboard, picking up on almost every mistake my Android keyboard did.

I know iPhones and iPads both run iOS, but given that they're different versions, I just wanted to make sure there aren't any major discrepancies in how third party keyboards behave between them.

TLDR: If I buy an iPhone 17, can I expect the third party keyboards like SwiftKey to work the same way that they do on my iPad Air (iPad iOS version 18.5)?

SwiftKey Users: Post Every Bug, Problem, Suggestion & Wish Here — Let's Get Microsoft's Attention

I've been using SwiftKey since before Microsoft acquired it, and I'm sure many others here have too.

Back then, many of us even paid for premium themes because the keyboard was that good. It was fast, accurate, and genuinely felt ahead of its time.

Over the years, though, many long-time users feel the experience has declined. Instead of creating dozens of separate complaint posts, I thought it would be useful to have one central thread where everyone can share their experiences, frustrations, bugs, feature requests, and suggestions.

Hopefully, someone from Microsoft notices the collective feedback.

Here are my biggest concerns as a Flow Typing user:

1. Typing accuracy keeps changing with updates
The core feature of SwiftKey—predictions, autocorrect, Flow typing, and overall typing accuracy—seems inconsistent. Some updates improve things, while others make the keyboard noticeably worse.

2. Very little innovation in the core keyboard
The AI features get attention, but the actual typing experience, keyboard customization, layout improvements, and long-requested features seem to have received very little focus.

3. No official place for user feedback anymore
The official Microsoft SwiftKey forums have been shut down, leaving Reddit as one of the few places where users can discuss issues and suggestions together.

If you've experienced bugs, regressions, annoyances, or have ideas for improving SwiftKey, please add them below. Whether it's a small annoyance or a major issue, let's keep everything in one place so it becomes a useful resource for both the community and, hopefully, the SwiftKey team.

FIXED! Keyboard Onedrive Sync issue on new phone

After about 2 weeks of ripping my hair out and troubleshooting with chatgpt, I've settled on beta but I got it to finally sync my dictionary/vocabulary! Sorry for the shitty format, it was a direct copy paste and I'm not going to sift though it to edit. (Switching from LG Velvet to Samsung Galaxy S25 FE)

Chat GPT:

Recommended Plan A (highest probability, lowest technical complexity)

Phase 0 — Protect your data

On a PC:

Sign into OneDrive.

Navigate to:

Apps

→ SwiftKey Keyboard

→ Dictionary

Download:

vocabulary.txt

dynamic.lm

Save them somewhere safe.

Do not skip this.

Phase 1 — Make sure LG is the only active SwiftKey device

On the S25:

Uninstall SwiftKey.

Uninstall SwiftKey Beta.

Leave them uninstalled.

On the LG:

Keep SwiftKey installed.

Confirm Backup & Sync is ON.

Confirm Last Sync is recent.

Phase 2 — Rebuild the cloud backup

In OneDrive:

Delete:

vocabulary.txt

dynamic.lm

On the LG:

Open SwiftKey.

Go to:

Account

→ Backup & Sync

Toggle Backup & Sync OFF.

Wait 30 seconds.

Toggle Backup & Sync ON.

Wait several minutes.

Check OneDrive.

Expected result:

New vocabulary.txt

New dynamic.lm

Open vocabulary.txt.

Verify:

Your old words are present.

File size is similar to your current 79 KB.

If not, stop and report back.

Phase 3 — Try Beta again

On S25:

Install SwiftKey Beta only.

Enable keyboard.

Do not import anything with Smart Switch.

Wait 30–60 minutes.

Test old learned words.

What on Earth is up with autocorrect? No, seriously, how does this make sense?

This example perfectly illustrates how Autocorrect works on SwiftKey, but the behavior is similar on the iOS keyboard as well.

I typed "cabke" which has an OBVIOUS solution: "cable". The L key is right next to the "K" key, it's easy to figure out.

Yet the three suggestions are: "cake", "cabke", and "cake for".

What is the software mechanism behind this absolutely dumb behavior? Why must it do this all the freaking time? I remember 10 years ago it would read my mind. Now it sucks. All the other keyboards suck too. Why can't it just run the sentence through ChatGPT and be done with it?

Is the Hebrew keyboard decent?

A quick google says that it supports Hebrew. the main reason I haven’t switched from the regular iOS keyboard is how convenient it is to switch between Hebrew and English. I hit a button and bam it’s Hebrew or bam it’s English. Is it a simple button press on Swiftkey too? Are the Hebrew suggestions and autocorrect features good? Does it get confused about Hebrew being right to left like some apps do?

Signing in doesn't work on android?

As for many others, SwiftKey is asking to sign in (the big block with 'ask later') .

When I try to do that, this error appears. I haven't been able to backup my data for more that 30 days.

I have the latest version of the app.

Has anyone had the same issue and found a solution for this?

Accessibility Functionality?

Hey SK devs..

I've been using SwiftKey for over 15 years - back in the day before MS purchased it I was buying themes and other functionality because nothing was better, and am happy to say it's still my favourite keyboard..

However, as I push into my senior years (I'm 50 in January), I consistently find the keyboard less and less readable.

Although I can resize the keyboard, it only changes the key height, doing nothing to increase the size of the font on those keys, making them just as unreadable as they were at half the size.

Since I know MS are big champions of accessibility and quick to innovate on improving accommodations for all those who need alternativea to their CX/UX experiences, I'm hoping that this post will help get some of this functionality pushed to the top of the backlog - allowing the font to increase along with the keycap size seems like the lowest hanging fruit and easy to accomplish, but I'm excited to hear your thoughts

Where is the setting to add custom word replacements to autocorrect?

I've used a setting to make it so when I type certain words it automatically replaces them with a particular character/symbol. (e.g. I type "pi" and autocorrect replaces it with π)

But I can no longer seem to find the setting to see what ones I have done and to add a few more. Has this been removed? It still does the replacements I've set up before.

I'm on Android with Swiftkey version 9.12.30.7, only with English(UK) QWERTY

Sync not working on new phone - Dictionary and settings not transferred

I installed Microsoft SwiftKey on my new Android phone, logged in with my Microsoft account, and confirmed Backup & Sync is enabled. The sync appeared successful, but none of my data (personal dictionary, learned words, predictions, themes, or settings) transferred from my old phone. It looks like a completely fresh install.

I tried force sync, logout/login, clearing cache, and reinstalling, but the issue remains.
