Pop OS update broke HP Dev One boot

as title says. Ran updates for 24.04 that were offered, system no longer boots.

After the Cosmic update, the recovery settings etc. have disappeared and there's basically no support available from HP (or Sys76). Now enjoying troubleshooting when I should be working, sigh

Has coreboot support been cancelled for new laptops?

I bought a serval ws from system76 last year and at the time they advertised that while it came with the closed source Insyde BIOS coreboot would be available "once development for the new intel platform is complete" (see wayback machine page [1]) we're now almost a year on and a new intel platform has dropped since then (300 series) yet there still isn't coreboot support for these laptops and the system76 page has dropped the promise of coreboot (see [2] the modern webpage for the same laptop).

I would also note that COSMIC has had a known but for over 6 months which keeps the GPU on when unplugged resulting in horrible (<2hrs) battery life [3] and it's still not even not even made it to the TODO list. Which strikes me as very poor for something I and a lot of other people payed a lot off money for assuming good PopOS support.

The new Lemur Pro gets 18 hours of battery life on an Intel platform.

The test team came back with 18 hours of battery life on an Intel Core Ultra platform. We were pretty happy with that number because battery life like this is more commonly associated with ARM-based machines.

The new Lemur Pro is our lightest ultraportable, now available in two sizes for the first time — 14" at 2.2 lbs and 16" at 2.96 lbs.

Here's what's new:

  • 18 hours of battery life — our longest ever
  • Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 325 or Ultra X7 358H
  • 32GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • Up to 4TB NVMe storage
  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
  • Thunderbolt™ 4
  • 180° lid that lays completely flat

The 16" adds a QHD+ display (2560x1600) and optional Intel® Arc™ B390 dedicated graphics with the Ultra X7 processor. Check out the full specs here.

COSMIC System Monitor is out now. Dashboard view, per-resource charts, no tabs.

We just shipped COSMIC System Monitor and wanted to share what went into it.

The goal was straightforward: system monitors tend to get treated as afterthoughts, useful but not given much thought in terms of UI or UX. We wanted to build one that felt like a first-class part of the DE, not a bolted-on utility.

What's in it:

  • Dashboard view. CPU, memory, GPU, disk, network, and applications all in one layout. Top process visible for each resource, no tab-switching required.
  • Detail pages. Per-resource charts alongside the top processes using that resource, so the data has context.
  • Built with libcosmic. Fonts, navigation, and color schemes match the rest of COSMIC. It looks like it belongs.

Pangolin Pro 16 Battery Charging Levels How to set?

I am still new to the Pangolin Pro, not quite three weeks into mine, and I am just now getting to the point of thinking about part of the time wanting to set the lower and upper limits for battery charging.

A good bit of the time I am disconnected from the electrical cord, but there are times when I would like to use it with the power still connected but not taking the battery up to 100% charge and then leaving the power connected.

It could be that the device is so new that the System76 documentation site hasn't been updated yet and after looking through that and doing some searches on the Internet I think I have managed to confuse myself at this point.

In looking at the System76 Open Firmware page I don't see a listing for the Pangolin Pro 16. The System76 Battery Thresholds page doesn't list my model either and it doesn't see that the system76-power command doesn't work either as the system tells me it is not using the System76 firmware with change threshold support.

I know with a new model it takes time to get information posted, so I was just curious is there a way to set battery charging limits? If there isn't it's alright as I have used laptops before without having this type of feature so I can certainly continue on without it.

I'm totally lost... anybody willing to just tell me what GPU to buy?

** Okay… I realized I was waaaay overthinking this and just ordered a damn GPU. Thanks y’all. **

For some reason, my brain is completely locked up on what GPU to purchase to add to my Thelio. I should have just added it when I bought the thing, but I didn't because "oh, I'll just grab one later when prices go down." Or some dumb train of thought like that.

I'm not a gamer, and really am trucking along mostly fine without one, but I've just hit enough annoyances with things like Zoom and OpenSCAD that I want to go ahead and bite the bullet.

The problem: I'm not a good nerd. I have no idea what I'm looking at/for when it comes to GPUs and I'm terrified I'm going to buy something that just won't work. Every time I think I've decided what to grab, I start to worry and go off down another rabbit hole. I know that I don't need the latest, greatest, and beefiest thing available but I also don't want to shoot myself in the foot. Again.

The ask:Throw me a couple links for currently available GPUs that'll be a good bang for my buck as someone who's never likely to do anything more taxing than light CAD and Codex. My budget is pretty open (buying on the company card), but I need to be able to justify my spend.
