Title: TMJ disc displacement with reduction — what helped you? Looking for hope
Hi everyone. 28F here, been dealing with TMJ for about 3 months now and just got my MRI results. Feeling scared and looking for others who’ve been through this.
My MRI findings:
Left condyle flattened (Type A morphology), disc relatively normal position, reduces on opening
Right condyle mild irregular contour (Type E morphology), disc mildly anteriorly displaced, also reduces on opening
Inflammatory changes in right retrodiscal soft tissue
No joint effusion
Muscle attachment normal
My symptoms:
Temple pain and tenderness
Jaw soreness and tightness
Referred pain to eye socket and head
Brief pulling sensations in head
Ear fullness and crackling (also have ETD)
Neck tension and trigger points
What I’m currently doing:
Hard acrylic splint (lower teeth) — 6 weeks in
Magnesium bisglycinate nightly
Dry needling for neck and shoulder trigger points
Soft food diet
My questions:
Did disc displacement with reduction improve for you over time?
What treatments helped most?
How long did it take to feel better?
Any hope for someone early in treatment?
Any experiences or advice welcome. Thank you 🙏
