I made a vocabulary app (Avocado) and would love some brutally honest feedback from Korean learners

Hi everyone! I’m a solo developer looking for honest feedback from people who are actually learning Korean.

I built a vocabulary app called Avocado. It supports several languages, but Korean is one of the main languages I designed it around. I tried to combine the features I personally wanted while studying into one app.

Adding words manually can be tedious, so I spent a lot of time on the photo-import feature. You can take a picture of a textbook or vocabulary page, and the app extracts the words and automatically fills in their meanings, example sentences, and pronunciation information.

You can also add words individually, paste an entire list, or import a CSV file.

If you type a topic such as “ordering at a cafe” or “common K-drama phrases,” the AI can generate a custom vocabulary set for you. You can review the results and remove any words you don’t want before saving the list.

For Korean learners, the app includes:

  • Basic, intermediate, and advanced Korean vocabulary decks based on frequency data from the National Institute of Korean Language
  • TOPIK I and TOPIK II essential vocabulary decks
  • Practical themed lists for situations such as convenience stores, food delivery, clinics, markets, and hiking
  • Lists covering Korean slang, onomatopoeia, and expressions from historical dramas

The app is suitable for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced learners. Beginners can start with the built-in basic Korean and TOPIK I lists instead of creating everything from scratch.

There are four study modes:

  • Flashcards
  • Quizzes
  • Example-sentence practice
  • Autoplay and shadowing for listening and repeating

It also has a gentle spaced-review system. Words you have memorized return at gradually increasing intervals. Daily reviews are capped at 20 words so that missing a few days doesn’t leave you with hundreds of overdue cards.

The app currently supports Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish. You can choose the language of the words and the language used for their meanings. Once words have been saved, you can study them offline.

Pricing:

The built-in vocabulary lists and all four study modes are free. The free tier is ad-supported and includes 50 AI-processed words per day, with additional usage available through rewarded ads.

Pro removes ads and includes 3,000 AI-processed words per month with no daily limit. It costs approximately US$2.99/month or US$27.99/year, with localized pricing shown by Google Play or the App Store. Eligible users may see a 7-day free-trial offer at checkout.

You can also use your own Gemini API key for unlimited AI usage without subscribing, although this does not remove ads. There are no other required purchases or cancellation fees.

I worked hard on the app, but I’ve reached the point where feedback from actual learners is much more useful than my own assumptions.

I’d especially like to know:

  • Does anything feel confusing or uncomfortable to use?
  • Do the Korean meanings and example sentences sound natural?
  • Are the beginner and TOPIK vocabulary lists useful?
  • Is the photo-import process easy to understand?
  • What vocabulary lists or topics should I add next?

Positive or negative feedback is equally welcome. I’ll answer all questions publicly in the comments so that the information is available to everyone.

Thanks for taking a look!

Waiting queue of TOPIK registration

Has anyone registered for the 109th TOPIK at the Delhi centre? The queue is very long, and it's been three hours since registration opened. Should I leave the site or wait until my number comes up? My place is 1022😭😭😭
