Just finished my 2026 Build

My 2006 Tacoma was totaled in April and went with my first new truck. I’ve always owned lifted Tacomas and I planned on waiting a while before building my new one, but with a week off work, what else was I supposed to do?! LOL

No matter how much you plan and research, you never really know how it’s going to actually turn out. I’m very happy the results. To help anybody else looking for information here’s the build:

Truck- Heritage Blue SR5. I planned on lifting so I opted not to pay for the TRD suspension just to remove. Cold weather package.

Lift- 3-1/2 Rough Country lift, with M1 Struts w/M1 Rear Shocks (no spacers). Rear coils.

Rims- Rough Country 79 Series, Gunmetal Gray/Black, 17x8.5, 0mm offset. Tires stick out about 2”, so I’ve ordered the sport fender flares and should arrive by the end of the week.

Tires- 285/70R17 Nitto Recon Grappler A/T. All mounted and balanced, tire pressure sensor installed before shipping.

For me, I knocked out the rear in a morning and had the front tore down by end of day. Second day, front completed and decided to do the front diff dropdown on the third morning. No cutting or permanent modifications required.

To replace the upper control arm, the instructions state to basically remove the bumper, radiator mount, etc. I got half way through and decided to watch their install video, and they had a much easier way… you can jack the radiator mount to compress (drivers side) and it gives you just enough clearance to remove that large control arm bolt. Highly recommended doing it that way.

Ride is a firmer than stock, but not in a bad way. Minimal hum. 4 cylinder turbo has no issues at all with the larger tires and the truck handles great.

Yes, there are many ways to lift with so many personal preferences, but this was my path with no regrets. I’ll try to answer any questions if anyone is interested.

Lift options/opinions

Happy 5th of July to everybody! Hope you all had a nice weekend!
I know I’ll probably rattle some feathers with this post but I’ve searched days on end and still have no idea what kit I’d like to go with.
I have a 2019 trd off road currently and have just ordered some new wheels (ssw dakars on 33s) and I’m about to order a lift kit, preferably bilstein 6112/5100. I will be driving my taco daily for work (I’m an apprentice plumber) and will be hauling my tools around. All the tools I have fill up my entire bed (Milwaukee packout cart and smaller packout boxes filled with power tools, plumbing tools, etc). I just would like to know if this kit is overkill or perfect for my daily set up. I won’t be off-roading, but I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin so if anyone else lives here, driving a lot of these roads is damn near off roading lmao. *pictured is kit im interested in buying*

Tedious but fun and rewarding mod-DIY onboard air

After countless times airing up my tires after a trail day under the scorching hot AZ sun, I undertook a lil project to make my life easier. I hardwired my trusty 6 year old Viair 400P Automatic into the bed of my truck, and paired it with a Morrflate 4 hose manifold. I cannot say enough good things about Morrflate, and if I ever decide to upgrade to a dual compressor I will absolutely choose a Morrflate unit based on my experience with customer support alone. Sean at Morrflate answered all my questions regarding what hoses, adapters, etc to get, and texted me intermittently during my install to see how things were going-and never once tried to upsell me on getting one of his compressors.

Anyway-because the Viair requires 30 amps, I didn’t want to power it from my Auxbeam panel, however I DID want to control it from my Auxbeam. So I got to try my hand at using a relay for the first time. After reading up on them a good bit, I felt like I had a pretty good understanding and got to work. I ran a 10g power wire from the battery through a 40 amp circuit breaker, to a 40 amp relay, and then to a busbar. I then connected the other ports of the relay to my Auxbeam panel. Then to compensate for voltage drop, I ran a 6gauge marine grade wire to a busbar in the frond of the truck bed. From that busbar I connected 10g power and ground to the compressor. I didn’t want to play guessing games with my ground, so I have the 6 gauge ground running from the truck bed to the negative battery terminal.

I bought a bedrail system from Toyota (because my 2018 TRD Pro didn’t have one 🤦‍♂️). I then mounted an Amazon molle panel to it covering the front of the bed. I bought a Viair “universal mounting bracket” and mounted the compressor to it with rubber isolators to help with vibration. I also bought a roll of rubber mat from Ace Hardware and cut it to fit the back of the bracket to again help with vibration. I slid some T-Slot bolts into the bedrail and used them to mount the bracket. With the compressor mounted I used a 7 foot hose with the proper adapter made by Morrflate to run the air hose to the tailgate underneath the driver side bedrail.

Now, when it’s time to air up, I simply drop the tailgate, hook up the 4 hose manifold, attach it to the tires, and then sit in my air conditioned cab and press the button on my Auxbeam. It takes me just over 12 minutes to go from 10 to 38 psi in all 4 tires. No more popping the hood and connecting alligator clamps to the battery and burning up under the sun going tire to tire. No more explaining to good samaritans that I don’t need help because they see me on the side of the road with my hood up. For roughly $250 in parts (bedrail, molle panel, bracket, and wires) I have an onboard air system that I’m VERY happy with. Obviously that 250 doesn’t include the Morrflate hoses or compressor since I already had it.

Also-I mounted the relay to the side of the engine bay using one of those convenient threaded holes that are scattered about and not used. They fit an M8 bolt if anyone is wondering. Puctures are kinda out of order- I don’t post so I’m not that good at it

Ok why are we waving at each other now?

I was cruising down 89 south last Montcaterpillar VT and someone drove past in a second gen waving. I thought we just like, nodded our heads or something.

Door Cupholders!

After way too many prototypes, I finally finished a door-mounted cupholder for my ’96 4Runner.
It wasn’t about fitting bigger drinks—it was about having a cupholder in a more comfortable spot. I liked the idea of door-mounted cupholders already on the market, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for. So I took the American approach and made my own.
It mounts into the window molding with no drilling, is confirmed to fit 1996–2002 4Runners and 1995–2004 1st Gen Tacomas, and includes interchangeable adapter rings for different drink sizes. Printed in PETG-CF with ASA accessories.
I’m making a few final tweaks before opening preorders. I’d love to hear what you guys think or what other door-mounted accessories you’d like to see.

My 3rd Gen Build!

Let me start off by saying, I don’t consider myself a truck guy. I’ve always been a streetcar type of person … but damn do I love this thing. It’s completely changed my perspective.

Sold my old VB WRX for the truck back towards the end of 2024 and picked this puppy up. ‘23 SR5 4x4 with only 10k miles. Told myself I wasn’t gonna modify it like all my other vehicles I’ve had … that obviously lasted about a month and then I bought just about everything for it that I have now.

Everything on the truck has been installed by me and done by me. I’ve always loved wrenching on things, saves ya money, and if anything goes wrong you only have yourself to blame!

I’ll attach a brief mod/part list below, cheers!

-Bilstein 6112 front coilovers (2” raise)
-Bilstein 5160 rear shocks
-OME UCAs (not pictured as I installed later)
-Icon add-a-leaf pack (1.5” raise)
-SCS F5 Wheels
-Falken Wildpeak AT4W tires
-Trd Pro Grille
-USR Clear Taillights
-OEM paint matched rear bumper caps
-Preordered (still waiting on) Oracle lensless headlights

What is this thing?

Saw this cable dangling yesterday that I’ve never seen before and noticed the small box mounted under the steering wheel. I plugged it in and the light came on. Feel dumb I’ve had the truck for a year now and just noticed it.

CONCERN!! Ignition Coil.

Doing spark plugs today, starting on the passenger side and noticed this ignition coil looked more baked than the others in what I assume is oil burnt on it. What am I looking at if I look into fixing this. THANKS.

First Truck, First Tacoma, All advice and suggestions appreciated!

As the title says, just got a, new to me, 2024 Tacoma SR5 with 20k miles on the odometer. Got it for 33.6k out-the-door. Thankfully, I have an experienced family in car buying and skipped all the warranties. It was a personal lease before me and it seemed/feels mechanically sound to me. Tires have decent thread left, and it is cosmetically appealing to me. I do feel like it rides a little rough around 45 mph but I checked the tire pressure and it seems to be changing every so often that I look at it.

Anyways, please let me know what you guys think and all suggestions/tips are welcome!

Thank you

I designed and 3d printed these little hooks for my bed rails, any thoughts?

Hi, as stated in the title, I 3d printed these little utility hooks for the bed of my Tacoma. They are printed in PETG. I wanted to see what other Tacoma owners thought, as I would like to design more and find ways to improve them.

2nd gen longevity tips

My 2012 TRD 4WD, 6-speed manual, V6 double cab has 180k miles & I love her more now than when I bought her. I’ve been spending more time on beaches & backroads the last few years for fishing & family trips.
What are the best investments, mods or upgrades you’ve made to keep your similar vintage Tacoma performing as it gets older?

Is anyone else still using the stock floor mats?

They've done the job so far, but after a few camping trips I'm starting to think it might be time for an upgrade. What are you all running these days?
