Truly the most fun firearm I own!
Buying a Mossberg 590r. Even if you don’t need one
Buddy sent me this saying it's a new tactical shotgun from benelli but I can't find anything about it. Anyone know anything?
What brand of WML are we running on our shotguns?
Started life as a 20 inch mossberg 500 that I picked up for 100$, bought a 590a1 barrel and mag tube and slapped them on. Of course it’s not a full 590a1 but pretty cool nonetheless.
Shot the beretta 1301 mod 2 for the first time. Barrel was perfectly smooth prior to shooting 60 slugs...truball 1600 and 1300fps.
This is after cleaning with mops. Then I used a bronze brush after I noticed the barrel appeared contaminated.
What's the deal? This seems absurd after just 60rds.
Paid less than anywhere that has it in stock, honestly think they had it priced wrong.
I have an A300 UP that I put a Primary Arms Micro Red Dot on. It sat too high up on the pic rail and I couldn’t get a cheek weld on it. I ended up replacing the pic rail with a C&H Precision mounting plate. Now the optic sits super low and has an absolute cowitness with the irons. Should I leave it or go back to the pic rail? The red dot seems kind of useless now with the absolute cowitness. What do you guys think?
Sorry for the sunlight. This is my Patrol shotgun.
The pump is so much lighter, more agile and easier to point.
My 940 is for fun. My 500 defends my home and hearth.
Brand new 1301 tactical. I did do a field breakdown and cleaned and lubed slightly when I got it. Added the aridus imperium which I appreciated after the first 10rds...she gets hot.
Ran 50rds of Federal truball 1600fps slugs. Then 10rds of the low power 1300fps truball slugs.
I got 5 or 6 failures to eject. I had to manually clear the rounds. The last round of a group of 5 was sitting in the lifter. It was a spent shell. 🤔
It seemed to get better towards the last rounds.
I decided to run the 10rds of 1300fps truball expecting it to fail to eject. Nope. Two groups of 5rds...rapid fire...all cycled and ejected perfectly.
So I'm not confident enough to grab this in a real situation yet.
I'm hoping it was break in issues and not a chronic problem.
I'll break her down and do a thorough inspection, cleaning and lube. What should I look at regarding the extraction and ejection?
Aside from the issues...it was easy to be accurate. The Landon tactical fastback and front sight worked perfectly without adjustment.
I have the kickeez pad. Did 60 slugs in appx 35min. Not bad at all once I learned what to expect.
What do you guys think? I can only shoot slugs around here. Need to drive a long ways to be able to shoot anything buck slugs. I'll pick up another 25rds of high powered slugs and run her again after the cleaning. Will report back.
My first semi auto shotgun.
After some research here, which was sort of a PITA due to Mossberg using the words “Pro” and “Tactical” in many versions of the 940, making many iterations appear in a search, I ended up with the 940 Pro Tactical SPX. I compared it with the A300UP and the M4 before I bought. Couldn’t check out an A300 locally, and the base M4 was a little heavy and a tad long for me. I did not consider the 1301.
Anyway, the 940 PTSPX comes very well equipped compared to other defense oriented shotguns.
-7+1 (in Nevada)
-7 sling points including 4 QD.
-Vang Comp 6 shot card. I have not tested it for shell retention while firing buckshot. OTOH, my two week old Esstacs dropped shells.
-Optic cut for RMSc with plates for RMR, Docter and Leupold included. You lose the rear sight if you mount an RDS.
-Drilled and tapped for scope rails. So if you wish to keep the rear sight you can add a rail and mount your RDS on that.
-Threaded for choke with cylinder choke and wrench included.
-M-LOK slots on the barrel clamp, and on the integrated forend/heatshield at positions 3, 6 and 9 o clock.
-Groove on the magazine tube for the barrel clamp so it will not slide due to recoil or need to be really tight.
-Oversized bolt handle and bolt release/shell release lever. You pull the lever like a soda tab to release the shells but I found that the bolt handle gets in the way a little. NBD tho. It’s not something I have to do fast.
-Ghost ring rear sight and fiber optic front with extra fiber tips included
-Cocking indicator. I didn’t realize how useful this was in a SA shotgun.
-Smooth and flat shell lifter that doesn’t catch my thumb.
-Spacers to adjust LOP
My gun will not manually cycle the aluminum A-Zoom snap caps. The extractor drops it on the lifter. I think it has something do with the weight distribution of the A-Zoom. It cycles the cheap Amazon stuff shown in the pic with no problem.
I took it to the range and put 75 rounds of 1200 fps 1 and 1/18 shot loads along with 10 buckshot shells. The gun ate ‘em up and spat them out with no issues. I was not pulling the trigger as fast as I could but rather controlled pairs. Next trip I’ll run 100 shells.
Cleaning was easy. I just followed the portions of the generic 940 manual that applied to this model. Mossberg also has a video of the Miculeks cleaning a 940 that you can watch but there were no close ups of what they were doing.
My HD situation is simple so if this proves reliable I’m keeping it stock and rotating bedroom corner duties with my 500 pump.
Edit: 8/9. Fired 100 rds of AA 1200 fps 1 and 1/8 oz low brass. . Controlled pairs, no mag dumps. Zero malfunctions. Took the gun apart for cleaning. Everything looks good.
Thank you for reading.
Hi guys. I am looking to do a sling on my Mossberg Shockwave SPX. I want smaller capacity. As I dont want interference ( factory set up is long ), from the sling attachment point. Btw, I did the Defender Tactical kit for mini shells. Is there a smaller differant set up for that?
Thanks guys. Any advice appreciated. Pictures coming soon..its at the gunsmith. A few extra goodies I cant put on he is doing for me.
Ok folks I need some ideas/advice for a shotgun belt. It will be primarily used for pillow fort defense and keeping women away so not for any serious use. Now I plan to fill out the ifak and add 1 perhaps 2 TQ holders. Along with changing out the handgun to a 92 or M&P I plan on trying out putting 2 shotgun cards in a surplus double mag pouch. Other than that yall got any ideas? Shotgun is a 590
