hangout now/later?!

hii, i’m moroccan but born and raised in brussels. currently in tanja, but flying back very soon and figured i’d try connecting with people for once :> i don’t really speak darija, though i understand some of it. i’m fluent in french and most comfortable with english.

f23 but don’t mind if you’re older as long as this post relates to you in some way.

i’m religious and wear the hijab but i’m very much alternative!! and have been for years. i dress more casually when travelling though. i’m very open-minded and progressive in my views, so i’d connect best with likeminded people in that regard.

i love fashion, art, and all kinds of music like metal, emo, goth, jazz, etc. i’m also pretty nerdy and into movies, shows, cartoons and anime. i wanna add i <3 horror and generally weird stuff. i have a lot of interests and love hearing about other people’s, but also just looking to chill without feeling pressured to fill every silence.

i’m very shy and reserved, so making this post is a little intimidating honestly! i’d probably feel more comfortable meeting girls, queer(-friendly) people or a small group of friends just because meeting random men from reddit is probably very hit-or-miss. i’d also feel less awkward in a group setting rather than one-on-one so if there are any other solo people interested, maybe we could form a tiny awkward group together lol and if your friend group is open to temporarily adopting me for a couple of hours, i’d appreciate it ^_^

i’m near souk bara, the boulevard and iberia btw.

Looking for a Tangier local to help identify historic photo locations in the Medina

Hi everyone,

For my masters internship, I’m currently researching a photo series made by Dutch photographer Willem van de Poll in Morocco during the mid-20th century. On May 30-31, I’ll be staying in Tangier to try to locate the exact places where these photos were taken and gather some basic metadata and historical context about them. The collection is part of the Dutch National Archives.

I’m looking for someone who:

  • knows the medina of Tangier well,
  • speaks Darija and English,
  • and would be interested in helping me explore and identify locations from the photographs, but overall to have a fun time

This is the photo series: https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/zoeken?activeTab=photos&qf_nao_titelFotocollectie=Fotocollectie%20Van%20de%20Poll&resultsPerPage=48&rm=gallery&searchTerm=Marokko%20

I’m a Middle-Eastern Studies student from the Netherlands, and this project focuses on visual history and archival research. If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, feel free to send me a DM.

Thanks!

Friends for coffee discussions

Hello everyone, I'm looking for friends who like to discuss or debate different topis over a cup of coffee.

I consider myself non-religious/agnostic and would like to meet like-minded people.

Also if you're super conservative over relationships or sexuality and gender I don't think we're gonna agree.

Solo trip

Hello! I’m Malaysian Muslim (F,30) will be coming for a solo trip to Tangier on September. Im a little lost on what to do in Tangier. Id really appreciate if i can get a guidance or advice on things i need to do or avoid and be aware of. Id prefer to have a slow travel vibe but also not too boring with fun things to do. Here are some questions, you dont need to answer all of it:

- how many days do you think is enough for tangier
- what are some things to be aware of or advice when i reach Tangier or before I come from Marrakech
- Best method to travel from Marrakech to Tangier?
- which is the best area to look for a stay? (I prefer not to expensive but beautiful beach view and not too secluded)
- what are the activities i should be doing?
- is there beach that i can go to swimming or island visits i can do?
- id love to meet locals to bring me around idk where to find or a group of friends and experience local lifestyle 🥹 or where to find a guide
- best restaurants to try out (local favorites)
- other infos i need to know

Thank you

Technopark Tangier

I just want a place to study on my laptop with wifi. Is the café inside still open or did it close permanently? And can you just walk in and stay there if you buy a coffee or do you need a subscription access card?

What if we started a free English speaking circle in Tangier?

I have been thinking, what if people in tangier who want to improve their english just started practicing together instead of paying courses?

No pressure no teachers no formal classes, just small groups based on level where we talk and exchange ideas, make mistakes freely, and actually improve together while meeting new people at the same time

It could be beginners or intermediate or advanced doesn't matter just real conversations..

Would anyone be interested in something like this?

Does anyone else feel empty when summer ends in Tangier?

Summer in Tangier feels like a completely different city The streets stay alive until late, cafés are full, people come from Europe and all around Morocco, and everywhere feels full of energy and movement. For a while, the city almost feels magical.

But when September comes and everyone leaves, something changes instantly. The streets become quieter, places feel emptier, and there’s this strange sadness in the atmosphere that’s hard to explain. Every year I feel this emptiness after summer ends, like the city suddenly loses part of its soul.

Am I the only one who feels this every year?

Why is evry1 searching for friends here lol? Also my concerns and thought on it

Every time I scroll through here, I see posts from people looking for friends, which is completely normal. But some posts feel oddly intense, like people are immediately searching for a “deep connection” or a “best friend” before even knowing each other
I also notice people thinking shared interests automatically create friendship. Like sure, having the same hobbies can start a conversation, but friendship is more about chemistry, time, trust, and naturally vibing with someone.
I feel like some people try to force deep friendships instead of just letting connections happen naturally.
