I can't even nail the base game in BGA, so how much exactly hope do I have with even Corporate Era and Preludes?

https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=854595049

I kinda blacked out in the end and decided to risk my Thermalist position over an extra city. Plus it didn't come to me that animal cards could produce so many points even when they come later in the game...

Question about TR

Recently, I start to playing Terraforming mars Turmoil.

That got me wondering, if you use Turmoil, your TR decreases every round. So, if, for example, your TR becomes 0 and your gold income becomes -5, will your gold decrease during the income phase?

Best 3D printable "setup-to-play" organizer?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for recommendations for a good 3D printable organizer/insert for Terraforming Mars with all the expansions. I own both FDM and Resin printers, so any kind of file works for me.

So far, I’ve already 3D printed my own astronaut player markers, dual-layer player boards, and dual-layer colony boards. Now I need a solid storage solution for the rest of the game.

I’m specifically looking for a "setup-to-play" style organizer: something with modular trays for resources, cards, and tiles that I can just take out of the box and put directly on the table. The goal is to speed up the setup and make it easier for players to grab resources and cards during the game.

What do you guys use? Do you have any specific STL files (free or paid) that you’d recommend for this?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone tried sleeving TM with the Dragon Shield Board Game Common Standards?

I believe Terraforming Mars cards come in closer to 64mm x88mm but I'm wondering if they could just work with these sleeves. Has anyone tried them? Would love to see a photo of you've got one in there!

Could use some specific guide for Tharsis, my last two BGA games as them went awful.

For reference:

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=852619682

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=852644001

Both 2P on Elysium.

What I did notice:

For the first game, I got stuck on cards I definitely do not get to play (sold them in the end).

I never bothered to bulk up on steel, power and especially plants.

I hardly paid attention to the award parameters, so the opponent could easily pick one up, leaving me no chance to snatch it.

Seems like even though all the cards look good per buying phase, you have to let some go.

I started on the 3 plant spot in the middle on both. Are there better spots to begin?

On paper, this one's a good corporation, but it could still end up poorly without the right cards and certain conditions.

And just my two cents, but the cruelest thing about BGA is even though it's clear the other guy is the superior with no window to close the gap, it seems like they have the incentive to keep going, and I have to sit there and watch. How does one have that?

Catastrophes - A Fan Expansion

Introducing: Catastrophes - A Fan Made Expansion

Mars is dangerous. As Corporations accelerate their terraforming efforts, the planet becomes increasingly unstable. Massive dust storms, meteor strikes and solar flares threaten the future of humantiy on Mars.

Catastrophes introduce a Dynamic Event System to Terraforming Mars. Events become more severe as the game progresses, forcing players to adapt, prepare and insure themselves
against disaster.

Turmoil Expansion

It is pretty divisive in my play group, about 50/50. I'm planning on integrating it for my birthday celebration game coming up this weekend, but generally, it is left in the box. Do you folks usually include it or not? And why?

Seeking some beginner help in deciding what to do

UPDATE: Thanks for all the great tips! With your help, I am understanding the cards system better and just came within 2 oxygen levels of winning a Solo game on BGA! Great start... thanks again!

I am a RELATIVE newcomer to modern board gaming, but I have been playing for about a year and a half now, and I have a collection of over 20 games. The heaviest games I play regularly are Ark Nova and Brass Birmingham. I kind of thought the fact that Ark Nova is currently one of my most regularly played games would be helpful in learning to play Terraforming Mars. But I'm just kind of finding that I don't really know what to do. I mean I understand the structure and the actions… But I'm finding it difficult to formulate any strategy. And I know that will come in time, but I'm finding it difficult to even begin to play the game with any strategy other than "well... I guess I'll do this... because I can".

I'm not really a fan of making plays just because I can and not really knowing the longer-term implications of them. Perhaps I'm just being impatient… But I would appreciate if anybody can take what I've said here and offer some advice in helping me to understand some basic strategy.

Thanks.

Upcoming Fan-Expansion

Hello again, fellow terraformers!

This is the very early start of a possible fan expansion idea, depending on how much time and energy I end up having for it. The working title is World Building Expansion.

The original idea was quite simple. I wanted to make some fan-made cards that featured more corporate logos and mentioned corporations in the flavour text, just to make the world of Terraforming Mars feel a bit more alive.

For me, this is still the most important part of the idea. These cards should visibly include the corporation’s logo, or at least something strongly connected to that corporation, somewhere on the card. Mechanically, this is not strictly necessary, but it is the main world-building element that made me want to start this project in the first place.

But the more I thought about it, the more I started wondering:

"Would it be fun if certain cards gave an extra bonus when played by a specific corporation?"

That is where the idea became really interesting to me. It could be a way to make some under-performing corporations more appealing without directly changing the corporation cards themselves. I know the simplest solution would be to buff weaker corporations officially, or just use house rules, but I thought this could be a more thematic and interesting way of doing it.

For example, weaker corporations like UNMI or Sagitta could maybe have several corporation-specific cards in the deck, while stronger corporations like Point Luna, Vitor, or Manutech might only have one or two. Another possibility could be to use these cards as part of the normal deck, or maybe as a small separate deck during drafting. This is still something that would need a lot of testing and tinkering.

The cards I have made so far are only early ideas and are definitely not final. I mainly wanted to share the concept and get feedback on possible problems, balance concerns, or suggestions.

There is only one planned “new mechanic" in this expansion, because I personally think the game is already close to perfect and does not need many more mechanics:

IF YOU are playing as [corporation]...

The idea is that the card still works for everyone to play, but the player who plays as the named corporation gets an extra thematic bonus when playing it. The question mark at the cost is just a place holder, since I have no idea about balancing!

Please make your own cards if you think this is a good idea, because I am not sure if I have the time and patience to follow through with it, but thoughts and feedback are very welcoming please, please, please!

PS. I am not sure if this "new mechanic" has already been thought of, please link me to that post or ’creator’ in that case. Thanks.
