Off-Campus Housing for a transfer student

I know there's probably a million different threads like this, but I'm struggling trying to find a place to live as a transfer student. Just about every apartment complex I've looked at is flooded with recent concerning reviews. I know most people say to not do student housing or to just rent a house, but I literally know just about no one in Lubbock. I'm okay with having a roommate or 2, but after the horrible experience I've had this past year with the 3 people I was matched with, I don't know if I trust student housing's roommate matching. Honestly, I'm also considering just living in a studio. I've spent so many hours looking through reviews and threads, and everyone is saying something different. If I were to live in some kind of housing that's not labeled "student," how would I find anyone to live with? I know about the Facebook group, but are there any other websites that could help me find someone to live with if I do go that route? I even created a spreadsheet to compare and contrast several different apartment complexes, and the photo is one page of that spreadsheet. If y'all could give me any recommendations that would help me out so much.

Rec Access

I have a friend who lives in Lubbock and wants to use the rec. What would happen if I gave him my raider id? What pops up on the workers computer when I check in? Just wanting to see if I could get him in without me there. Thanks in advance for responses.

MBA at Company or Texas Tech? MBA vs Finance

Hey everyone, I am currently interning at a company this summer that would pay for me to do an MBA, but I’d have to be working full time and it would take a few years. I am considering going back to school for a 4th year at Texas Tech and trying to get scholarships for a graduate program to pay for it all or at least most of it. I currently have 2 semesters of scholarships leftover which is 11k total plus I think I’ll have around 2k-4k from other scholarships, from my understanding an MBA is 3 semesters and would be around 27k.

I could also get a Masters in Finance which I am interested in, and at my company they view these degrees as the same and would bump me up to a level 2 starting either way. That would be around 2 semesters and I think about 20k. I think I might end up wanting an MBA later in my career (probably not but maybe, and my undergrad is not finance)

Can anyone tell me how much it costed them for the masters in finance or an MBA at Texas Tech and what scholarships or funding they were able to get/how much they actually paid? I would like to be at school for a 4th year and be with my friends and girlfriend and would be graduating from college at 22 with an MBA, and hopefully debt free or really close to it.

Honestly a nightmare. Avoid Raiders Pass at all costs.

Do not lease here just because the rent is cheap. I spent a year here, and it was easily the worst living experience of my life. The student nickname for this place is 100 percent accurate. Because of the outdoor motel-style layout, your front door opens right to the outside. My apartment was a constant dust bowl, and roaches overran everything. I found them by my bathroom sink, in my shower, all over the kitchen, and literally crawling inside my dresser drawers. The kitchen is a joke. There is zero space to prep food because the microwave sits on the counter using up all the room. The cabinets are an ugly yellow color, and the laminate counters are covered in chips, burns, and stains. My coil stove was broken from day one. Three burners didn't work, and the only one that did was detached and protruding upward, so I had to balance my pan on it just to cook. The furniture they give you is nasty and gross to sit on. The ceilings are awful popcorn texturing, and the bathroom vanities are cheap, water-damaged laminate. The maintenance is so lazy that my shower curtain rod wasn't even screwed into the wall. It was literally just resting on top of the shower. I could pull it off with one hand and use it as a defense weapon if I wanted to. For security, there is no gate system at all. Anyone can drive or walk in. The outdoor steps are disgusting and covered in a decade of stains and spilled drinks. Plus, the location on 4th street is terrible. You are nowhere near the stadium, student bars, or nice walkable areas like Overton Park. Do not let this place ruin your college experience. I've moved to 21 Hundred and it is a night and day difference; hell, even any apt. in overton park is better than Raider's Ass.

Will I get into the music college?

I have no question that I will get into the university it's self but i am very worried that I won't get into the music college. If it helps y'all get a better idea of how good of a player I am, I am a horn player that is going to be a senor in high school in the fall I auditioned for my states all state (not TMEA) and got first chair in the 1A-4A category (small school division). When I was at all state, the conductor recommended that I apply for large school division or a more competitive division. I have participated in one solo and ensemble and when I did I got best solo of the competition. I am going to the band camp at TTU this summer and I will update y'all with how that goes if it tells me anything of note. I have started to gain connections with other university professors from my state and they seem to think I'm pretty ok I think. If y'all have any other questions about my skill level I will answer as best as I can

I built a debate app for civility. Users wanted to be toxic.

So I’m obsessed with debate, I’ll be honest, and I’ve noticed, as I’m sure we all have, that discourse in recent years has gotten really toxic.

It’s either a dogpile, throwing insults, being condescending, I don’t need to rehash what I imagine we all already know.

I built an app where people could swipe on topics, get matched with someone who disagrees, and get a score on their civility. The idea was that if you’re always an asshole, your shitty civility score would follow you and no one would want to talk to you.

I added a feature in passing called toxic mode that did not judge your civility. Spew your venom, no holds barred.

That was the idea.

Every time I got an install on the app, every single user immediately jumped into toxic mode. Out of 100+ downloads, not a single person wanted to have a civil discussion. They wanted the messy version. The heated version. The version that felt more like a chaotic internet argument than a polite debate club.

So I stopped fighting it and built a lightweight browser version where you can just pick a topic and jump in:

https://thinklavender.com/ragebait

The goal is still to get people talking to people they disagree with. Maybe the first step is not making everyone perfectly civil. Maybe it is just getting them in the same room.

And if that room has to be a little toxic to get people through the door, so be it.

Would love feedback on the idea and whether this feels like something people would actually try.

Final (?) sad chapter: NFL informs Brendan Sorsby it will not hold a supplemental draft this year

“The League has not conducted such a draft for several years and, prior to your submission, the League had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry,” NFL attorney Lawrence P. Ferazani Jr. said in his letter. “Your Petition — filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions — does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans. The issues presented by your Petition are too significant, and too closely tied to the League’s core integrity interests, to permit meaningful review within the timeline presented.”

Texas Tech recruiting

I’m wonder if the whole Brendan Sorsby situation will affect their recruiting? I know he didn’t do the gambling at TT but they still supported him and tried to stand by him despite the gambling issues. I wouldn’t want my kid going to a program that seems to value wins over player accountability. I know they have the funds, I’m just interested to see if it has any longe term effects.
