I got dropped from all my top houses and need advice.

I’m currently rushing as a sophomore this fall. My high school gpa ended up being a 4.0, but after my first year of college, my gpa is now a 3.2. I’m a marketing major with a minor in apparel design. I’m only writing out this information because I have no idea if it’s important or not. Basically I got dropped from all my top sororities after open house and was literally left with my bottom four. I finished my philanthropy days to see if I liked them and I really don’t see myself at any of them. Before all of this I also really didn’t know what to expect. I just need advice. I really more than anything want to be in one of the following: Kappa Kappa Gamma (in honor of my grandmother who I’m a legacy of), Kappa Alpha Theta, Tri Delta, or Chi Omega. I just want yall to give it to me straight. Is it a better idea to drop and try again in the spring semester? Do I have any chances of getting in these houses? Do I need to get my gpa up? I also feel like I have some pretty good conversations with everyone I talked to but I guess not good enough. What should I do better in conversations? Should I consider COB or a snap bid? I don’t even really know how those work. Please just let me know and BE HONEST. I just want to know if I have any chances of being in my top houses. Please also let me know if there’s anything else I can do to get the bid I want.

Out of state Students

When I attended in 2011-2015 students from Texas were excessively mean and rude to me because I wasn’t from Texas. Also it was extremely difficult to make friends. Is this still a common experience for students who attend from out of state?

Where do you guys do your grocery shopping?

I know most of you are guys are going to recommend HEB but it’s too far for me and I don’t have a car

Rn I’m looking at Walmart, Food King, and Amigos

Of course if you guys buy at other places you’re welcome to recommend them.

I’m kind of liking Amigos though because they have a bakery (Mexican pastries) and I can buy meat by the pound

question about the gym

I heard full time students supposedly get free access to the gym, and that parking is free there for about 2 hours.

I’m a full time student for the upcoming fall, (literally next week) do I have access to this gym now? Or do I just have to wait a few days for the fall semester to actually start?

Tour of Texas Tech's $242 million Womble Football Center reveals 'Neverland' allure, NFL aura

The Dallas Morning News' Brad Townsend writes:

"LUBBOCK — Our private tour of Texas Tech’s four-story, cutting-edge football complex paused at seemingly every jaw-dropping bell and whistle, $242 million worth.

It was nearing 10 p.m., so this Taj Mahal of all college athletics was otherwise deserted and silent — accentuating its opulence, yet also its organic flow and attention-to-detail functionality.

The tour began at coach Joey McGuire’s office suite and balcony view, high above recently re-christened Galaxy Stadium’s south end zone.

Ensuing wonders included the state-of-the-art locker rooms; the two-story players’ lounges; 200-seat meeting room; the barbershop with three chairs — Red Raider red, of course.

Alas, not until the following day, when speaking individually to more than a dozen players, did we learn there are other features in reigning Big 12 champion, but relative upstart, Texas Tech’s blueprint for entrenchment among college football’s elite."

The Grove apt lease termination

I had to withdraw from TTU this semester (fall 26) for personal and financial reasons, ie mental health (like serious mental health issues if you get what I’m saying) and I have a lease agreement with The Grove at Lubbock that began this month.

I moved back in with my parents while I figure stuff out, and I have been working on canceling my lease agreement. I am willing to pay any fees or shit that they want me too, it’s whatever, but they won’t even let me do that. They want me to find a replacement tenant for my room, and I’m sorry, who tf is going to do that less than a week before classes start?

I already paid first month’s rent, and that’s fine, but I don’t need to be paying for a place that I’m not going to be living in for the next year. It’s bullshit.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle these vultures, before I kms and blame it on them?

Financial aid or loans not being on account (emergency payment plan)

i'm currently enrolled in the emergency payment plan. None of my grants or federal loans have been applied nor external scholarships. I owe about 4000 with room/parking/meals that is due tomorrow, but I'm really lost. I'm not sure what to do. Financial aid does not answer nor the student business services if I have to what's the quickest way to pull out a loan and even at that if I can't find a way to figure out a loan by tomorrow, will they remove me from the room? Am I allowed to move in? Has anyone else had this problem?

TTU Financial Aid/Red Raider Guarantee

Like everyone here, I have had trouble with my Texas Grant but it FINALLY got applied to my EBill the other day. I particularly had a question about Red Raider Guarantee… I have a balance about $850 still, I qualify for red raider guarantee but since I have never had to use it before due to other scholarships/etc have covered my entire tuition.

Does anyone know how/when Red Raider Guarantee applies + how to see that information? I tried to call today but the queue was 108 people and my call ended up getting dropped.

I’m fretting a bit since I’ve emailed my academic and financial advisor and still have heard nothing back. I don’t have the funds to pay for this balance & since my mom is on disability, I don’t really have any other support to pay for it.

Thank y’all!

Housing

Hi everyone!
I’m an incoming graduate student at Texas Tech University and currently looking for housing options in or around campus.
I’d really appreciate recommendations for on-campus housing, dorms, or off-campus apartments that are convenient for graduate students. I’m also interested in finding roommates, so if there are any Facebook, WhatsApp, Reddit, or other student housing groups that I could join, please let me know.
Thank you in advance!

Any student apartments available?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew about any student housing apartments that have space for me and my three roommates. We were supposed to move into the holly but unfortunately things have changed. Please let me know if any places has availability. Thank you.

Late Payments

Ok so I am going to be late on my payment for classes because life happens so I ended up needing to use student loans. That part is all good though went through last night with a good cosigner and we were notified by the private lender that they would be sending our loan request to our school. Obviously the money isn't going to hit by this Wednesday so I'm going to be enrolling in an emergency payment plan no biggie. My question is after the aid is received and sent to tech will they just cancel the payment plan or does anyone know how that works?

Has anyone else’s Texas Grant not been paid yet?

My TTU Texas Grant Renewal for Fall 2026 shows that I accepted $2,501, but the amount paid is still $0. My other financial aid appears to have processed.
Is anyone else having this issue, or has your Texas Grant already been applied to your account? Financial Aid told me to give it two days to make sure everything disburses correctly, but I wanted to see if this is happening to other students too.

Surplus Store

I was wondering if Tech had any sort of surplus store where you could buy furniture and other things the school has no use for. I know other universities have similar stores, but I wasn't sure if Tech had anything of the sort. I found what looks to be one, but it seems to only be for professors and staff.

Loans

My loan was accepted through raiderlink and it hasn’t been disbursed. I’m wondering if this is why my loan hasn’t disbursed? Or it just hasn’t disbursed because no one else has?
