How a 5-Episode 'The Forest' Live-Action Series should actually look like (Concept & Timeline)

Hey everyone!

I’ve been obsessed with the lore of The Forest. While the main story is great, the absolute best part of the game is the environmental storytelling—the tragic micro-stories of the yacht passengers, the cultists, and the Sahara staff that we only see through scattered clues.

It made me think: if a big studio like HBO or Netflix ever adapted this into a show, they shouldn't stretch it into a boring 8-10 episode season where the main guy just cuts wood for hours. It needs to be a tight, high-intensity 5-episode Limited Series that uses a dual-timeline structure. The present follows Eric, while the past gives us cinematic answers to all the side-stories through flashbacks triggered by the items he finds.

Here is how I would structure the 5 episodes:

Episode 1: The Fog and the Red Shadow

  • The Present: The plane crash. Eric wakes up with post-traumatic amnesia. He knows he has a son, but the shock blurs his memory. He struggles to survive his first terrifying night.
  • The Climax: The cannibals play psychological mind games in the dark. Eric catches a glimpse of the "Red Man" in the distance, triggering a sudden, violent flashback: that man took Timmy.

Episode 2: Wreckage of the Past (The Yacht & The Passengers)

  • The Present: Eric searches for clues and discovers the luxury Yacht and parts of the plane's wreckage.
  • The Flashback: As Eric explores these locations, we see the tragic parallel stories of the wealthy yacht owners and the plane's tennis team being systematically hunted down and captured by the tribe days prior.

Episode 3: Faith and Science (The Cultists & Sahara’s Genesis)

  • The Present: Eric moves deeper into the jungle, finding torn Bibles, underground crosses, and Sahara shipping containers near the coast.
  • The Flashback: We witness the demise of the naive 1980s missionaries who tried to "convert" the tribe. Concurrently, the timeline shifts to the modern, sterile Sahara facility, revealing the horrifying corporate decision to begin human experimentation on children.

Episode 4: Descent (The Caves & The Outbreak)

  • The Present: Eric is forced into the pitch-black cave systems to follow Timmy's trail.
  • The Flashback (The Horror Peak): While Eric sneaks past monsters in the dark, the flashbacks show the exact day the underground laboratory fell apart—the mutated children (Armsy, Virginia) breaking out and slaughtering the staff. We also see the tragic death of Megan Cross, driving Dr. Matthew Cross to absolute madness.

Episode 5: The Sinkhole and The Cycle

  • The Present: Eric reaches the massive Sinkhole, descends into the high-tech Sahara complex, and defeats the mutated Megan.
  • The Ending: Eric finds Timmy dead. Realizing the Obelisk's curse, he makes the monstrous choice to shoot down another passenger plane to save his son.
  • The Epilogue: Years later, a grown-up Timmy suppresses his mutation in a dark apartment while looking at maps of "Site 2". The cycle continues.

I feel like this 5-hour format would eliminate any pacing issues and finally show us the full horror of what happened on that island before Eric arrived.

What do you guys think? Would you watch this?

(And if Endnight Games is reading this and wants to pitch it to Netflix, we can always settle for a 10/90% split – 10% for me, 90% for you... just kidding! ...unless?)

Why no one did a 100% speedrun of this game?

I was wondering if there is some kind of speedrun to get your inventory full of everything or something similar. I didn't find any video about a speedrun like this on youtube so i check speedrun.com and see that no one did a 100% speedrun and i want to know if there is a reason or just no one care enough to try one

The Cannibals think I'm a 5-star meal and won't leave me alone

No matter where me and my buddy build we're just constantly attacked by groups of 4-6 cannibals every 5 minutes(I've timed it), and it's completely ruining the game for us. Where's some safe/semi-safe places to build or ways to keep encounters to a minimum? We play on Hard Survival.

No clear progression makes this game feel like slop as a casual

trying not to just be negative with no explanation as to my issue with the game design.

Ive played survival games before and some of this stuff is generally a problem with the genre as a whole, but as a beginner, im not having any fun playing the forest.

I have to hunt miles and miles for sticks and aloe that pretty much doesn't exist as far as i could find any, respawning is a nightmare if you ran more than 3 feet from the plane and traversing this map is a drag and a half. The cannibals aren't even that scary its the thought of dying and losing your crap and needing to slog on over to your body with no stamina since the plane has been picked clean long ago.

like for a game with the word horror in the steam title art, it isn't that scary, the resource scarcity makes doing or building anything a chore of "wander around aimlessly until you either run into cannibals and die or maybe strike gold with no reward for thinking" as there is nothing to think about. just walk around and pick the berrys and dont drink the aids water which looks the exact same as the clean water and build a base and some walls just to do it and not deal with cannibals.

the novelty of the game gets stripped within less than an hour and unless you already know whats where and what, its just overly vague

I feel like i got dropped into ark with no dinosaurs, no item crafting recipes, no clear way to find ANYTHING and an obscure, confusing story progression. i tried playing years ago and dropped the game out of boredom and my girlfriend wanted to play recently so i figured it was probably just me but I get back on and all i can think of is getting off and doing anything else.

I really don't understand why this game was so popular it warranted a sequel when getting to the end of the game is a litmus test in itself to see if you have the correct type of autism to enjoy survival slop because i don't have that type autism.

Dont starve bores me, minecraft bores me, ark bores me, rust bores me,

i think im the problem lol

terraria however is a gem among gems among gems

*downvote all you want i want to hear what gives this game the place it has in your hearts, im not saying its a bad game, im new and confused and frustrated, how does one get past that curve

Is there any way Ican make this zipline transport wood?

Whenever I attach wood to it and it goes to the other end, when I go there everything just fucking explodes. I think that the game stops rendering it at that distance adn when I get there everything loads in at the same time and messes things up. Anyway to prevent this? I have my render distance on max.

What's the best way to attract mutants?

Me and my friend are end-game and we want to kill mutants to get creepy armor before fighting the final boss. We built a lookout structure by the yacht because the official map has like 5 mutant icons on it, and we heard it gets chaotic there. But we have seen one mutant, and maybe 7-8 cannibals.

Any advice to draw them in? We tried playing the cassette tape aloud, chopping down trees with chainsaws, and building a bunch of fire pits

How terrible of a camp site area is that area around geese lake?

Kind of what it says on the tin. Friend and I are trying (and at least in my case kind of fumbling through) the forest for the first time blind, and our crash site is next to what I’ve determined from a Google search to be geese lake. Any thoughts? We had three big uglies storm through our camp destroying our stone walls. Is that because we’re on a patrol path or just a bit smoothbrained?

Logging in the dark, goes to hell real quick

So I'm just minding my business, it's quiet, a few more trees and I'll head back to base... These freagin mutants come outta nowhere! I think they're pissed about the deforestation at their base. Man, I love hard survival!

I finished

While finishing The forest, some things I saw at the end of the game made me emotional, but I think it was not such a game, I think the sound in the background had an effect. This game is excellent, but unfortunately I didn't save my son...

Guaranteed aloe vera spawns?

Currently infected on my multiplayer world, and the only aloe Vera we found my friend used it before I could get to it, so now im stuck being infected. Ive gone back to where we found it, the area surrounding it, and I cant find one anywhere. Is there a guaranteed spawn for them or like another heal that can cure infection?

Weird katana bug/glitch

I was playing multiplayer with 2 friends and then suddenly we saw one of our friends did the ground attack (like when you look at the ground and attack) and the animation was holding katana from the sharp part and attacking with the handle of the katana. we tried to do it ourself and we did the classic ground attack animation. few minutes later my friend lost that animation and i had that animation. when i tried it was the same handle attack and it spawned pickable little rocks and also pennies rarely. then i lost that animation too. I am asking is this animation an glitch, bug? Or perhaps an easter egg?
