Black Widow is officially dethroned... Welcome our new king and the true One Below All with the lowest wr in the game

I believe this might be the first time a hero has lower wr than Widow in Marvel Rival's history lmao

We were so close.

This goes out to ultron players. This is probably the BIGGEST middle finger here.

We were so close to being slightly appreciative. Then season 8.5 dropping. We got the AOU event delayed(I’m fine but our skin is also delayed).

We don’t get a summer skin meanwhile a character skin is getting another(Loki maybe?) and white fox.(happy for widow fans)

Then they release a character that’s hitscan and can ricochet to others, meaning it’s gonna be ANOTHER counter flyers have to deal with an already overwhelming roaster of characters that can already.

Then the cherry on top. THEY NERFED US IN THE PATCH NOTES. WHY?!? He was fine for once and they strip him. Meanwhile all these new characters can obliterate him and even fly.

That’s my rant. But goddamn this is frustrating.

Widow and Fantastic Summer Skins

A positive out of the dev vision, Natasha and Reed are getting swimsuit skins.

I'd like to start making Counter Charts, a chart with a hero's counters and how to play into them or who to swap to.

The idea here is we pick a hero, list out their counters and then some strategies for playing into them and who you should best swap to if you can't play into them. Then I make a chart like this with my nerdy mindmapping software.

This seems like the appropriate community for it because we have some of the most highly countered heroes in the game.

I'm all for starting with Iron Man, but if anyone wants to go with another hero that's fine. But I don't play everyone so I need some suggestions and help with this one.

Ideas for a torch rework

Not a big torch player and I'm sure you guys come up with dream reworks all the time. Wanted to share my idea and hear what you guys think

-pillar/fence damage converts to over shield (feel like that ones obvious)

-alternate firing mode to shotgun (maybe like a flaming finger pistols or something more long ranged) and he can now charge his shots. Charging the shotgun style tightens the spread of the pellets. Charging the pistol style leads to a larger aoe explosion (? Gotta make sure he isn't an iron man clone here) charged shots should also ignite flame pillars

- ult rework: if torch gets atleast 500 damage with his ult, he'll explode again in the same radius as his initial cast for like 200~ damage. This extends his ult by 7 seconds and puts him into a second supernova state, where all his abilities are buffed (more damage) and all damage inflicted during this stage is stored and cast again in another explosion upon the ultimate ending.

I think it'd be cool

The Awards Below All -- Gameplay Results

Took a little break to let things breathe before posting the last results, but I have them for the Gameplay and Playerbase categories.

Our first award in Gameplay goes to Adam Warlock with assistance from Storm. He's won the Better Off Alone award for the worst team-up, Cosmic Cyclone, which is supposed to boost Adam's healing and does not help as much as advertised. And it never really happens because both Adam and Storm are in the bottom five for pickrates in the game.

Rocket Raccoon takes the Sleep Aid Kit award with over 40% of the vote. Congratulations on having the most boring kit, which is certainly appropriate for a crazed mechanical genius who lives in outer space.

The Quantum Calculus Kit award for the most bloated, complicated or difficult kit is Black Cat's by an OVERWHELMING margin. She got 94% of the vote which is a larger percentage than any other win. Congratulations, Felicia, on your award and your wheel and your bizarre currency that springs from the blood of your enemies and buys you magic from relics.

Squirrel Girl win Caveman Kit award. Squirrel Girl kit simple. Jump. Throw nuts. Bad guy die. Go Squirrel Girl!

Angela wins the Technical Malfunction award for buggiest character, defeating Peni Parker 44 to 33. We gather here to recognize that Angela is broken as hell and not in the sesnse of the word that gets you a high winrate. Congratulations, Angie, we wish you many bug fixes in the very near future.

Iron Man has been declared a Moving Target for having the most counters in the game. The voters have recognized that Marvel Rivals is a uniquely hostile environment for Iron Man and just about everyone finds it fun and easy to get up there and kill him. Remember to congratulate him before you shoot him in the face.

And the final award in the Gameplay Category, the Ultimate Disappointment, goes to Peni Parker every time she yells "IT'S SP/DR TIME!" and runs randomly around the map dropping environmentally hazardous webbing until somebody puts her out of her misery. Peni is a true vanguard to the core, with a final attack that makes everyone back up and shoot at her.

Thank you to all who participated by nominating, voting, sharing, commenting to ask what the point was. Previously we posted the Cosmetics, Lore, and Balance results and later today I'll post the Playerbase results and Playerbase results. I'm off to to figure out if we've learned anything from this.

Makes sense right?

This is highly subjective and anything in the top right corner is thrown around randomly to make space but I think it is a perfect guideline. White Fox and Dino clearly aren't TOBA despite having no post-launch skins/legendary because they are second and first in role but if in a few seasons they still have no skins and are nerfed without any buffs I think they would fit. Ultron would be fully in TOBA if the images were smaller.

Hence: Promote Hulk and Adam. Why are they here?

The Awards Below All -- Playerbase Results

The final category of The Awards Below All is the most likely to be erased, renamed or split among the other categories before next time. It felt a little mean to go out to the nominees, so it got few responses, only 138. I did go to Public Enemy #1 nominees to give them a fair shot, though. Some felt less than honored.

The Human Torch is perceived as the lowest picked character in the game, winning the Bench Warmer award. If you check the stats this is extremely close this season, he's the second lowest pick in the game as of this date. Congratulations to Johnny on his notable absence.

The "No One Believes You Suck" Award goes to the Hulk, who is having a great season and people have seen it. He got 31.9% of the vote, and the next highest pick was Squirrel Girl with only 16.7%. Congratulations to the Hulk for his rise to stardom.

Iron Fist takes home the Impressively Low Self-Esteem award, because everyone knows Iron Fist mains think he is in the bottom 25%. The electorate disagreed last election, but we'll what happens next season. Hopefully he feels better to play then and they're no longer interested in TOBA. Come on, Lin, you can get that dinosaur!

Surprising no one, Black Cat won the Public Enemy #1 award. By less than 50%, though, and far less than she won the "Quantum Calculus" award so fewer people hate Felicia than hate her kit. Squirrel Girl was the runner up again, followed by Spider-man but neither of them broke 15% of the vote.

And finally, as predicted, we can crown Black Widow the QUEEN of neglected characters. She won the Forsaken Queen vote by over 90%, there were some enthusiastic write-ins but no one could touch Black Widow's undisputed ownership of this title. Give her some cheers and spread the word, hopefully that rework is close to going live soon but until then she wears the crown.

Congratulations to all the winners in all the categories, there will be some TOBA members out to your subs with kittens in the coming days.

And thank you everyone for your participation. If we do this again I'll come up with a way that's less of a pain. In the meantime, you can check the other results if you haven't read them: Cosmetics, Lore, Balance, and Gameplay.

More fun with stats -- A Healthy Hero and how others compare.

I chose Luna as the baseline for a Healthy Hero, because she gets a great deal of attention. She has a low banrate, but I think one that's too high is a sign of being broken, I have Black Cat on the next image.

Luna's only problem is skin available but nobody is getting more than 40 in that category. Iron Man tops it out.

------

So here is the math tricks, they were done to show Luna with the fullest graph possible to show her as healthy. Everyone else got the same calculations done so it scales out. I used the Rivals Meta site which has some issues, but those issues apply to all the heroes and this is just an exercise in visualizations.

  • Winrate: Added 40 to get it closer to 100 based on the idea that anything about 60 is broken.
  • Pickrate: Added 45 because Luna having a 35% pickrate is the highest, and it got pickrates to the 70-90 percent part of the graph.
  • Banrate: Highest Ban rates are Dino and Gambit, anything over 20 really is broken so I multiplied by 4 because the broken ones are over 25. The app I used doesn't let numbers go over the edge, though.
  • Skin Quantity: Very simple. 5 points per skin. All recolors, whether for legendaries, epics or default count as their own skin for this. This is how we show inequality in Legendaries. Iron Man and Psylocke bother have 5 legendaries, but Iron Man's got 25 points because no recolors, but Psylocke's gave her 75 points. For new heroes I counted each season before their debut as if they got one skin a season.
  • Skin Quality: 5 points per legendary (each recolor counting as it's own legendary) 4 points for epics (each recolor counting as it's own epic) 3 points for rare (mostly recolors anyway) and one point for the default skin. For new heroes I counted each season before their debut as if they got one epic a season.
  • Skin Frequency: Went back through the Marvel Rivals Skins website by season, subtracted 10 points for each season without a skin. For new heroes, I counted each season before their debut as having gotten a skin.
  • Skin Availability: Went to the store in the game, counted the skins on sale without a time limit. 5 points for each skin available and 5 points for each chroma of an available legendary. Plus 10 points for the default skin and the first recolor. NOBODY did well in this category, it seems they keep to around 4 skins in the shop per hero.
  • Upkeep: Used my stats that go back to Season 5. Subtracted 10 points for each season without a buff, unless that season was before their debut. Lowest score will be 60.
  • Team-up: Gave 50 points for each team-up a hero has, more than 2 i broken, Jeff. Subtracted 10 points if the hero was the anchor. Subtracted 20 points if they had a team-up where the anchor had a pickrate lower than 10. Subtracted 30 if they had a team-up where the anchor had a pickrate lower than 5.

----

So this is not EVERYONE, just a sample. I chose some known strong heroes to put beside heroes who are in TOBA and those that were in the recent election.

The worst team up in the game is undoubtedly chilling assault

undoubtedly. You might think it's useful at times which is not wrong. But also it's a team up that you have no choice but using that hurts you. It reveals your location if you're diving, so either reveal your location or have less overhealth. For the people that might say it has some functionality sometimes as opposed to other team ups like planet x pals sure. But you have no choice but to use it and it hurts you 50-60% of the time and it only helps you only about 5% of the time (The rest of the time it's just like using The normal one with no team up) it's the worst team up because it's the only one that you have no choice but using that hurts you. I don't care if you team up is useless. At least it doesn't hurt your character
