Face to face encounter with a great white shark off of the Oregon coast
Derek Boe was spearfishing off the Oregon coast last weekend when he had an unexpected and frightening encounter.
Diving at a depth of about 30 feet, Boe came face to face with a great white shark that he estimated to be 12 to 14 feet long. Boe, who lives in Vancouver, quickly realized he was in danger, so he shoved off from the bottom and rose to the surface. He was careful not to make any sudden movements during the 30-second ascent and escaped unscathed.
Boe told his fellow fishermen that the shark circled him four times.
