On 26 January 1966, siblings Jane, Arnna and Grant Beaumont travelled to Glenelg Beach in Adelaide, South Australia.
The children were expected to return home by lunchtime. They never did.
Witnesses reported seeing the three children throughout the day in the company of an unidentified fair-haired man believed to be in his late twenties or early thirties. Despite one of Australia’s largest and most extensive investigations, neither the children nor the man have ever been identified.
For almost six decades, the Beaumont children’s disappearance has remained one of Australia’s most enduring unsolved mysteries.

Archive Summary

The disappearance of the Roanoke colonists remains one of history's oldest and most enduring mysteries.

In 1587, more than 100 English settlers established a colony on Roanoke Island under the leadership of Governor John White. Shortly after their arrival, White returned to England to gather much-needed supplies. Political conflict and war with Spain delayed his return for three years.

When he finally arrived back in 1590, the settlement had been completely abandoned.

There were no bodies, no signs of a struggle, and no clear evidence of what had become of the colonists. The only clue left behind was the word "CROATOAN" carved into a wooden palisade and the letters "CRO" etched into a nearby tree.

For over four centuries, historians, archaeologists and researchers have debated the fate of the Lost Colony. Did the settlers integrate with local Indigenous communities?
