Please I need your help with my dissertation survey! 🙏
I am an MSc student at the University of Southampton, and I am collecting data for my dissertation. I would really appreciate it if you could complete my survey, and I am happy to return the favour and complete yours too! 🙏
This short survey looks at how young people perceive AI-generated misinformation on Instagram and how it relates to trust and critical evaluation of online content. You will simply share your honest views by rating a few short statements about your experience using Instagram.
It takes around 6–8 minutes to complete. You can take part if you are 18–25 years old, live in the UK, and use Instagram at least once a week.
Your responses are completely anonymous and will only be used for academic research.
Thank you so much for your help! 🙏

How are people maintaining straight A's in summer classes while writing a thesis? What am I missing?
I look at some people in my cohort right now and I’m genuinely baffled. It’s the end of June, officially summer is here, and I’m trapped in my room trying to finish my thesis data collection.
To make things worse, I had to take two extra summer modules to graduate on time, and the weekly assignments are draining the life out of me. I look at my peers, and they are somehow working on their research, taking the same summer classes, and still getting perfect grades. Meanwhile, I’m barely surviving just doing my literature review.
Are people just secretly using an online coursework writing service to handle their side modules during the summer, or are there some god-tier time management skills that I was never taught?
Seriously, how do you balance high-level research with mundane weekly papers without losing your mind?

Rewriting Bachelor Thesis
Hello. I defended my bachelor thesis in 2019. Now I want to rewrite the thesis because I am now discontent about what I wrote. The thesis explored the importance of language in the perception of reality. Does anyone has experience on this? what would you recommend? Is it even possible after 7 years? Do I have to take another course on linguistics to rewrite? thanks for your answers!

Solipsistic cycle of civilization theory
This paper proposes the Solipsistic Civilization Cycle (SCC)-a cross-domain theoretical framework integrating developmental psychology, political science, thermodynamics, and geopolitics to explain the simultaneous crises of individual identity formation, state legitimacy, and civilizational resource competition currently active in 2026. The framework argues that three interlocking systems-biological vulnerability in adolescent development, the structural mechanics of the state apparatus, and the thermodynamic limits of energy-based civilization-produce a self-reinforcing cycle in which populations become increasingly governable through affect rather than reason, while competing elites use the state as a resource-extraction and power-alternation machine. Drawing on Erikson, Mumford, Tainter, Odum, Ibn Khaldun, and Spengler, and validated against current events including the Strait of Hormuz closure, Operation Absolute Resolve in Venezuela, and documented adolescent neurological research from 2025-2026, the paper presents a falsifiable, empirically grounded synthesis. Areas of theoretical overreach in earlier formulations are corrected and replaced with evidence-based reformulations.

Help please: Sociology thesis and I feel stuck
Hi everyone!
I just finished the first year of my sociology master's program-and will begin working on my thesis come the fall.
Here's the issue-I feel so lost and behind on what to do (some of my classmates are already working on their beginning proposals).
Currently, I have maybe three areas where I am thinking: I want to look at the lack of social movements and organization against numerous health/environment based disasters that have affected my hometown for over 100 years, making a case study as to why it is sociologically important to study my hometown in this way compared to similar cities in population makeup, health hazards, crime rate, and certain political/gender views that constrain my city from taking action.
The second area would be utilizing socialization theories, particularly Bourdieu, Williams, Koehler, etc., as well as intersectional and gender theories that examine the relationship between socialization and radicalism, studying the elements of identity, exposure, and experience towards, specifically, radicalization in gaming and gaming-adjacent areas.
The final one I am keeping in the back of my head is looking at how the decline of safe physical and digital third spaces for adolescents is leading to experiences of grooming, radicalization (rise in hate-based language and violence), and acts of in-person violence.
I just don't know how to justify why these topics are sociologically important and sound to my grad director/professors. I know I am well-researched on paper when it comes to these topics, but when it comes to attempting to defend why I think these are imperative areas of research, I fall short and end up making a fool of myself, as my professors believe I do not know what I am talking about and do not see how important these are.
I am looking to write a mixed-methods thesis, as I have just begun gaining more experience in quantitative research, but qualitative research is still my preferred method. I do not know what to do. Any recommendations on these topics, organizing the research, and what to look for when it comes to the research itself, as well as tips in planning a proposal (decently done) for my grad director by mid-August so I can pick my committee members out.
I feel so behind and lacking in my skills, I am feeling the imposter syndrome terribly right now.
Thank you all!
