Three Home Broadband in the Isle of Man - will I get charged?

My dad has Three Home Broadband at home in the UK, and he’s currently travelling around the Isle of Man in his motorhome.

I didn’t realise he’d taken the router with him, but he’s plugged it in over there and it’s working perfectly.

My worry is whether he’s going to end up with a huge bill. I’ve found some information online saying the Isle of Man is excluded from Three’s roaming charges, but it’s not very clear whether that applies to Home Broadband devices as well as phones.

I know Three’s terms say the home broadband is intended for use in the UK, so I’m surprised it’s working at all.

Does anyone know:

- If it’s working, does that mean it’s included and he won’t get charged?
- Or could it still be roaming in the background and generate a massive bill later?

Just trying to work out whether he needs to switch it off before he gets an expensive surprise!

WiFi Calling Cutting Out

I’ve been with three for years, generally only have signal away from home so use WiFi calling primarily.

I’d always blamed the bad WiFi calling experience on my home WiFi being bad, but recently invested in a hard wired network with WiFi 6 mesh nodes throughout the house. My phone gets 900mbps internet connection in most places. No dropouts or stutters when using WiFi in my house any more. I was also of the belief that this was a limitation of the technology.

I tend to run with the latest Apple handsets and keep iOS up to date.

I’ve checked for carrier updates, and am running an eSIM.

I’ve also seen other forums and posts mention that router config is important. I have NAT enabled, along with every other setting that I’ve seen mentioned set to what I believe is the correct value.

And yet I still get WiFi calling cut outs where I’ll be talking to someone, and they ask me to repeat what I just said, because I cut to silence during a sentence.

A while ago I saw someone talking about this issue, and they were claiming that this is a known issue with three due to some configuration or infrastructure issue at their end, and that other providers don’t experience this issue.

My contract with three ends this month, so I’m considering my options.

My questions are:

- what is the current consensus on the stability of three when using WiFi calling?
- are other providers better?

Why is threes signal and mobile data really good in Scotland but lacking in England?

I’m Scottish and the signal is great across the country in my experience but down south in England and especially around London it’s utterly crap. I would have thought three would be more developed down there?

How do I select bands for my 5g broadband? My 5G gets brilliant speeds, but after a few minutes it insists on choosing a 4G mast!

I found a user on the Three forum who said that they managed to select bands and untick undesired bands in the admin view. I wanted to reply but then I saw that the Three forums have been closed.

Alternative to receive SMS overseas?

Problem is three sim is limited how long will last overseas what are the altetnau options?

I don't think VoIP works for banking SMS due to security what are the alternatives?

Is 3 losing money allowing us to receive SMS overseas? Given we pay the monthly fee anyways?

Nero codes go instantly now?

Do you have to be on the dot at midnight when they release every week? It never used to be like this is it due to bots?

Three Mobile Complaints Issue England

Hey all.

I have device payments for three mobile.

My issue is that they never set up my direct debit for them with my bank so I have been making my payments manually through bank transfer to them.

They claim I missed April and May payments but my bank account clearly shows the payments were cleared with he usual details that have been paid with before.

Now three sent me emails saying the direct debits failed despite them being informed of the issue quite a while ago.

They have all of a sudden sent those arrears to debt collection agencies.

I contacted three and they said they'd sort it. I called the DCA and they said three closed the accounts and sent them back so I thought all good.

Three never got back to me about any resolution so I contacted them again after I received a text saying query was closed but no agent or person on the phone could find it.

I now can't make any payments to them or set up a new direct debit on a new bank account because they said the debt was sent to the collection agencies for the arrears and won't even let me make the current payments either until that's paid.

They also tried saying because the direct debit failed I owe them the amount for the device payments that failed AND the direct debit failure amount because they got charged the full failure amount by the bank that doesn't even have a payment attempt from them. Essentially telling me to pay double

I have forwarded the case to CEDR but wondering if there's any other steps I should take? Three won't give me any straight answers and keep sending me in loops and keep saying they've escalated the complaint but never seem to find any actual complaint logged?

Unexplained Mobile Data Useage

I renewed my Three mobile plan a couple of months ago. I was on a 12GB plan, but because I never used anywhere near that amount when I renewed I changed to 8GB. Last month I used nearly all that which I thought unusual so I went through my phone and made sure I turned off Wifi assist, and back up to cloud using mobile data, as well as go through all my apps to make sure streaming and any updates was only done over wifi. I also reset my useage stats on my mobile when my new allowance refreshed.

Here is where I’m getting irked - my data reset on the 22nd. So 4 days ago. In that time I’ve apparently already used 4GB! I have 2 noteably large entries on the Three app on 23/6 @23:24 for 1232 kb and 25/6 @ 16:19 for 10105 kb. Both of those times I was at home and should have been connected to wifi, and I know for a fact wasn’t using my phone on 23/6 as I’d have been in bed.

My mobile useage stats say I’ve only used 34.4 mb in that time, and given that I’ve only left the house to collect my child from school or to go to a lesson, neither time I used my phone I’d suggest that was the more accurate.

Any ideas what this could be before I escalate this? My personal hotspot isn’t on either and this would show in my useage stats anyway.

I have an esim and an iPhone 16 pro if that makes a difference.

Slow broadband!

Hi, I’ve got a three sim but I keep getting very slow 4G speeds of up to 5 Mbps from 8 am onwards. The speeds only return to normal 5G levels around 8 pm. This is new problem (with intermittent slow downs before) and has been happening for the past week, and I’ve tested the SIMs in two separate 5G routers. Is anyone else experiencing this? How can I fix it, and could it be due to the weather?

Would appreciate some answers

Edit: I have tried changing apn (3internet, three.co.uk and mob.asm.net and ipv4) but to no avail. Changing to 5gNSA only on third party router cuts off connection entirely.

Spam Calls

I'm not on Three Mobile, but get 5-10 spam calls a day from numbers registered as "Hutchison 3G UK Limited". Google tells me this is Three Mobile. I've asked politely and blocked multiple numbers, but they just call me on another. Does anyone know how to make this stop? It's driving me insane.

picturehouse code 8hr limit

New feature: "your reward is only valid for 8 hours, so make sure you're ready to use it before you redeem"

Kinda pointless when its only valid Fri-Sun anyway.
