Worth picking up these 4-year-old unworn Captains?

Found a pair of Captains locally that were apparently bought around 4 years ago and never worn. They still have the original paper stuffing and there doesn’t seem to be any sole wear or creasing.

They’re US 9.5 and I’m fairly confident about the sizing since I’ve tried a US 9 before and found it just slightly too small/uncomfortable.

Seller is asking A$170 (~US$110).

Buying Thursday Boots directly here in Australia is a bit of a hassle because returns aren’t free if the sizing or something else goes wrong. Amazon Australia does sell some Thursday models with free returns, but the selection is pretty limited.

So finding an unworn pair locally in my size is pretty tempting. Anything I should be concerned about from them sitting unused in a closet for around 4 years, particularly the leather or rubber outsole? Or would you guys grab them at this price?

Long Term Durability Reviews? (Photos are not Thursday Brand)

I purchased an off brand pair of boots 8+ years ago that held up great until the soles eventually had no more grip to them. I purchased the pair in the above photos in December 2025 and they're already falling apart (Tommy Hilfiger). I wear them to work a few times a week, as well as to dinners or nicer restaurants.

I love shoes and always take very good care of the shoes I purchase.

I've debated Thursday Boots for a while now, but wanted to hear about people's first hand experiences with durability and longevity.

Capt Heritage 1 year

1 year daily use mustang leather. 5 stars. If they sold the storming last year I probably would’ve got that. The regular sole is slippery and too dressy for my work. I walk to work as a bartender in nyc and walk 13k steps a day. I resoled with vibram 100’s. Better for heavy use. You lose some of the heritage look but keep the bones and midsole of the boot. The boots hold up incredibly well. There’s something very satisfying knowing you’re lacing up a boot that’s built to last. I treated with mink oil and a waterproof spray 2 times this year.

My only disappointment so far

There was a small spur on the underside of the buckle, almost right in the middle, so the first time I put on the belt it was done for. 🙁 It’s an expensive belt, so I’m still wearing it and hoping to get my money’s worth out of it, but it seems a pretty poor quality control lapse.

First pair of Thursdays, torn between matte black Hero and Captain with StormKing sole. Wanting some insight!

Hey everybody!

I'm looking for a daily casual boot. I've got beaters for the dirty/hard stuff, these would be just for work, church, hanging out, etc. Nothing tough.

Climate wise, we don't have snow but it rains a lot.

Just curious with what people went with, and why.

Thanks so much!

Question

Hi,

I am looking at getting a pair of Thursday Heritage Captains. They have two different soles to pick from: the anti-slip Knight sole on the regular Heritage or the StormKing sole. I walk a lot on concrete. Which one will last the longest until I need a resole? I have heard the new anti-slip Knight sole found on the heritage models is a very soft rubber that wears out fast on concrete compared to the Dainite soles on the classic Thursdays.

Orange discoloration on sole edge / welt of 2-month-old Presidents – normal?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice or insight on my Thursday President boots in black.

I’ve had them for about 2 months, wearing them into the office a few days a week. I noticed this distinct orange/light brown line showing up along the edge of the welt/sole (see attached photo). It’s starting to appear in a few spots around the perimeter.

If it's just the edge finish coming off, what’s the best product to restore the clean black edge (e.g., Fiebing’s Edge Dressing, black shoe cream, wax)?

Appreciate any tips or product recommendations!

In search of (USED)…

Hey all, I’m looking for a USED pair of the Thursday boots Men’s Renegades in a size 10. Need for a wedding, and that’s about it. We have to all match and I’m trying to see if there’s market for used pairs out there. Attached is the product, thanks!

Spoiled

I recently got into the boot world and it’s easy to go by labels. The first boots I bought over the dozen or so I’ve accumulated are my Thursday Diplomats in brown chrome with lug sole that I purchased on the warehouse section. I have all brands of boots now, you name it, Parkhurst, Grant Stone, Oak Street, Truman’s and even Luos Jiet and Vibergs. I gotta say, these Diplomats are the most comfortable out of the lot. I wore these for 14 hours today and could have gone another 14. Great boots!

Thursday Perfecto Backpack (Toscanello) — First impressions + 2-week commute update, travel test coming soon

Quick take: A few weeks in and this is exactly the “refined over rugged” leather backpack I was hoping for — high-end feel wrapped around genuinely smart functionality, at a price that doesn’t feel like a stretch. No dealbreakers, just a few small nitpicks. Now have some real commuting miles on it, with an actual travel test coming next month.

Background:

I’m already a few pairs deep into Thursday footwear — black Captain boots, chocolate Cavalier Chelsea boots, espresso double monks, Premier Toffee sneakers, and Encore white sneakers — so I was genuinely curious how their leather goods line would compare to the footwear quality I already trust. Value-for-money is the thing that’s kept me buying Thursday across categories, and I wanted to see if that held up for bags too.

Why I went Perfecto:

Cross-shopped against Satchel & Page and the Beckett Simonon Logan. S&P edges it on veg-tan patina and lifetime warranty, but at roughly 2x the price. The Logan is clean and minimal — nice design, brand I already trust for shoes too — but doesn’t have a dedicated luggage-attach feature, which was a priority for my travel use case. Perfecto’s feature set matched S&P almost point for point at half the cost, with the luggage-attach sleeve the Logan was missing — that combination sealed it.

Functionality:

This is where the bag earns it. Interior layout is genuinely well thought out, not just crammed in. Standout feature is the zippered back sleeve for luggage handles — clever, and doubles as umbrella storage when closed. Dual-purpose thinking like that is rare at this price point.

Look:

Sleek, modern, refined — reads professional without going corporate-stiff, which matters for me as a creative professional. Like the rounded top and full-width front pocket. I’ve seen the “school backpack” critique of that front pocket online — I get it, but in practice it’s genuinely useful for high-access items, so function wins for me.

Leather and build:

Thick, rich, chocolatey — runs darker in hand than the caramel tones shown in product photos, but actually reads more refined in person, not less. Stitching and hardware feel robust without skewing rugged. Leather is stiff out of the box and holds its shape; expecting it to soften with break-in.

Interior:

Tan polyester lining — should hold up well to spills/stains, and the lighter tone makes it easy to actually find things inside vs. darker linings on other bags.

2-week commute update:

Been using it daily for the office commute, both on bike and in the car. On bike specifically, it’s comfortable to wear and doesn’t feel too heavy even fully loaded — a couple books, full laptop setup, notebook, pens/accessories, and a screw-top water bottle all in there at once. Access and visibility inside is genuinely great — everything’s easy to find at a glance, and the layout has held up to daily real-world use, not just looking good empty in a photo.

Nitpicks:

• Top carry handle has no leather underside — would’ve liked that for hand comfort/feel
• Neoprene/leather strap combo is comfortable and adjustable, but long-term durability is still a question mark for me
• Laptop pocket could use more padding, especially on the bottom — after two weeks of daily carry this is my main wish-list item

Value take:

This is really the throughline for me with Thursday overall — the quality-to-price ratio keeps outperforming what I expect. At this price point I anticipated having to compromise somewhere — hardware, finishing, or leather quality — and I haven’t really felt that yet. It’s the same reason I keep coming back for their boots.

Verdict so far: 👍 — solidifies my trust in the brand beyond footwear. Full travel-test update coming next month once I actually put the luggage-attach sleeve and laptop sleeve through a real work trip.

Kudos to TBC’s customer service team

It’s easy to complain about things and I’ve been known to do that but it’s also easy to give credit where credit is due.

I recently purchased another pair of Captain boots but this time in one of the R&R leathers. I promptly received the boots but had a small quality issue with them.

I reached out to TBC’s customer service and received a very professional and courteous reply within a few hours asking if I would mind sending them a few pictures but that they had already set-up a replacement pair to be shipped to me. I sent them the pictures, printed the prepaid UPS label they sent me and had them on the UPS truck the next day. Within two days, I had my new pair of boots delivered and they are perfect.

It’s nice to spend money with a company that actually gives a damn and stands behind their product. I haven’t had such good luck with Redwing. My thank you goes out to TBC’s customer service team and to TBC for standing behind their products and taking care of customers. Soon I’ll be back for my third pair of boots based off the price, quality and customer service.

I’m not a paid shill, just a very happy customer and wanted to acknowledge my feelings about TBC.

Weird creasing

First pair of boots and curious if the crease looks odd. My dress shoes never have a saucer that looks like you could drink water from it. I don’t think it’s the leather but perhaps the fit? I’m a narrow, low volume dude. 9.5B on a brannock and this boot is a size 9.

Which are the most durable boots?

I had a pair of heros for about a year and half. Wore them a couple times a week with not a ton of walking. Noticed some pretty severe damage to the uppers and backcounter on the boots. I reached out to customer support and they offered to replace my pair with factory seconds, or get a discount off a new pair.

I'm leaning towards getting a new pair with the discount, but not sure what the most durable pair would be. I like the style of the explorers but after my experience with the heros, I'm concerned about the durability of the leather.

Anyone have any ideas on what models are the most reliable for regular wear and occasional hiking?

Women's Combat Boots Never Broke In After 3 Years

I bought the Thursday womens combat boot in 6.5 in April of 2023. I purchased the women's Presidents in 2016 in 6.5 and wore them every day on trips walking 15k+ steps a day and they were fantastic, so I was excited to buy another pair.

These are so much stiffer and unforgiving. I emailed Thursday in October of 2023 because despite wearing them around the house, with thick socks, loosening the laces, tightening the laces, they ate the backs of my heels after two blocks and the toe break crushed the tendons on the tops of my feet. Customer service basically said sorry, they should be comfortable but they'll break in eventually, (screenshot attached).

Fast forward to now, I've kept trying to wear them every now and then for short trips but they have never broken in to the point I can wear them for more than a few blocks without pain. I have tried several different lacing configurations, putting moleskin on the backs of my heels to wear them longer to try to soften them up, thicker socks, etc.

I love the way they look, they're visually exactly what I wanted but they destroy my feet. Anyone here have any advice if there's anything else I haven't tried to make them all day wearable?

Messing around with lace patterns

Got my first pair of Diplomats this week and I started playing with different lace patterns today. I low-key dig the look of the zipper lace on the left, but it’s too impractical for a daily driver. I basically had to unlace the top three eyelets just to get my foot out of the boot.

Anyone else have a favorite alternative lace pattern that they like?

Worth the money.

2 months into the Challengers I gotta say im impressed. That first week was rough breaking them in. But well worth the cramps.

It’s a Thunder Day

These Thunders have been my work boots for over a year and a half. Excellent boots. TTS in my 13 bannock. Great support and I have no complaints with them at all. I did add an extra speed hook. I like 3 over 2.

Challenger Sizing

Can anyone who has the Captains or Loggers (or both) and has also tried the Challenger help me a bit with sizing? I ordered a pair of the Challengers in the same size that I have in Captains and Loggers and the Challengers just felt aggressively tight on the top of my foot; just walking in my room was too uncomfortable that I sent them back.

I also tried the Thunder (I like the aesthetic a lot less but wanted to try them) and they just didn't feel great at all... weight distribution just felt off.

Anyway, does anyone have these boots and any insight into sizing/comfortability after wearing for an extended period of time? I really want to love these boots but my "normal Thursday size" just really didn't feel great. Did anyone size up or down or anything? Just curious looking for people's experience and hopefully help figure if a half size up might help or not. Thanks all
