Silly snake dudes

I get why it's there- so people can't just stop the machine when a skill check comes up to avoid it, but I js had an awful experience today where this feature completely ruined a run by mistake.

I was playing as Squiddle with the snake/dolphin emblems and a really nice Patcher was with me. He healed me and to show my appreciation I went to the machine that was right next to us to use my wrench and give the machine to him. I use the wrench and in a SPLIT SECOND get off the machine before I complete it on accident, but I got a skill check as soon as I started it so I auto failed the machine. So, all the infecteds were drawn to me and the doctor, AND Fizzles cave was right besides us in which he was awoken by the failed skill check. Half the server was wiped out and the rest left after we miraculously finished the floor. I apologised profusely both in chat and with stickers but I still feel so bad for something that wasn't even really my fault 😭. This is a recurring issue when I play the game too, when getting off the objective to avoid being seen/give it to someone else when they ask.

So, I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this, whether the game itself or if I genuinely made a mistake I would not want to make again (I've never played any similar game before this one so I have no prior experience if there is already a solution to this). Like maybe just not getting skill checks immediately when you start an objective? Or should I have just tried to land on good and hope to god the machine didn't complete/doctor didn't leave before I could give it to him? I'm completely open to discussion (and if anyone from that game sees this I'm SOSOSOSO sorry).

P.S: I still love this game, probably my most played game this month.

Okay, so, hot take, but this game is WAY better developed then dandy's world. the animations are smooth. I've only encountered one maybe two bugs in the time I've been playing, there's so much more lore, and everything seems so much better planned out. I personally run a REALLY low end device, an old laptop and I don't even have a mouse, and I barely lag on full graphics when playing TU compared to DW I start freezing up and my laptop overheats.

I think overall the characters are also better thought out, & the interactions read and seem much more human, and the community is SO NICE. There are literally mean and rude stickers, like selena's "do your job!" and Teipo's "Think hard!", and I've seen NOBODY use them. I've also encountered 0 Griefers, 0 hackers, and from what I've heard and seen the mod and dev team are extremely sweey.

Idk if it's just me, but I'm genuinely about to quit DW and switch to TU.
