What Happened with the Horseshoe Tavern Boycott?
EDIT: Thanks for the clarification and insights folks have provided here. I have gotten clear info on how this situation was resolved. Thanks! Rock on and Free Palestine :)
2 years ago there was a pretty serious response to the Horseshoe Tavern cancelling an event that was a pro-Palestine fundraiser, as well as sending offensive messages in response to questions about their decision.
I recall being told that the person in question was a rep for the booking agency, not one of the owners, but I have nothing to back that up...
Some radical folks I know played there last month which made me wonder. I'm hoping some locals can shed some light on if this issue got resolved in some way, or did everyone just eventually give up and stop caring?
Looking for bandmates!!
Hello people!! I am a 23 y/o musician based in toronto, looking for bandmates to help me start up my band! I currently have a vocalist, and I myself am a composer/songwriter as well as a pianist and guitarist. If you’re looking for an opportunity to show off your multiple instrumental skills as well you’re more than welcome here! I am looking especially for a drummer, bassist, guitars and whatever else you bring to the table. I am always open to suggestions and ideas in terms of writing music as well! Dm me for any more information or if you’re interested.

Indie singer-songwriter trying to release my first song — how does the production process usually work?
Hi! I'm an indie singer-songwriter and I've been writing and recording my own songs for a while, mostly acoustic/lo-fi stuff.
I really want to release my first single, but I'm a little lost when it comes to the actual production process. I've been making demos in Logic, but I'm having a hard time getting my guitar recordings and overall production to sound the way I imagine them.
I'm considering working with a producer, but I've never done that before, so I'm not really sure what the usual process looks like.
Do I bring a rough demo to a producer and work from there? How finished should the song be before I contact someone? And how do you usually find a producer who's a good fit for your sound?
I'm going for something warm, intimate, acoustic and slightly lo-fi rather than heavily produced pop.
I'd also love to hear how other independent artists approached their first release — especially anything you wish you'd known before releasing your first song.
Thank you!! :)
Open mic’s on Monday in Toronto?
Hey!
I’m a small artist from Ottawa and I’m coning to Toronto for the Rob Zombie concert on the second. I’m arriving on the 31st. I was wondering if on Mondays or Tuesday during the day if there are any open mic places?
Any feedback is appreciated !!
Flyer Drop Friday
It doesn't get weirder than this.
A Beaky Sunday & Niko (the guy with the Buttons) team-up, Enby's first noise project on a fretless base (guitar not the fish), Amarelle Hall doing that weird thing that a small censor square would make look horribly inappropriate, and me meowing like a normal person would. If you have any questions ask away! Bonus if they're about dinosaurs!!!
Possible band to play indie/pop rock show this Friday?
Have a show lined up at tail end of the junction this Friday. Looking for band to fill in last slot. Ideally more indie/pop rock acts but open to anyone. Shared backline and potential profit from ticket sales. Dm me if interested or find me on ig @saddestnightout
Anyone interested in going to an open mic together in Toronto?
Hey everyone!
I've been wanting to try singing at an open mic in Toronto, but I'm honestly super nervous about going by myself 😅
I was wondering if there are any other girls here who have been thinking about trying an open mic but haven't had the courage to go alone yet.
Maybe we could make a small group, pick an open mic night, and go together for support. No pressure to perform either—we could just watch, cheer each other on, and help each other feel less intimidated.
And if singing solo feels too overwhelming, maybe we could even pair up and perform together! We could do duets or small group performances so nobody feels like they have to be up there alone.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, leave a comment or send me a message.
Best online place to connect with other Toronto musicians to form a band?
Hello!
Does anyone know of a good online platform to find other like minded musicians for collaboration purposes?
This sub seems a bit too broad: I feel there must be a dedicated place to connect like-minded musicians (something akin to a dating app would be perfect, but I know that doesn’t exist.). Remember classified ads, and craigslist?
The reason I ask:
I’m an old amateur guitarist with an awkward experience level (not good enough to be pro, but not a hack), niche musical aspirations and an undeserved aversion to compromise.
So not a lot of demand for what I am offering. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. But Toronto has a lot of people, so maybe my match is out there.
(Ps, perhaps I am mistaken about this sub; has anyone had luck forming a band here?)
(Pss: I know that organic networking is the best way, but i have exhausted that avenue)
Best Rock and Metal Clubs and Venues?
I'm new to the Toronto music scene and I'm wondering what everyone's favourite places are so I can get involved! I would love to perform and book some shows for this upcoming year. I would also be happy to get to know more musicians and help out at shows.
I've been to the Rockpile and I've heard good things about the Hard Luck Club. History has some awesome bookings as well from what I can tell.
I would love to know everyone's experiences! Thank you!

Punk/Alt Rock Venues?
I’m visiting Toronto this weekend. Does anyone know what venues showcase Punk, Alt Rock or Nu Metal? And is there’s anything I should know about scene etiquette and culture while I’m there? Thanks! :)
Let's form a band!
Heyy!
I am looking to form a band that plays something along the lines of punk rock (think Ramones, sum 41)
A little about myself, I am a guitarist originally from Lebanon and moved to Toronto about 3 years ago. I have been playing music for about 15 years now.
While I have been playing for a long time, I would consider myself mid-level when it comes to playing ability. I haven't played live for about 8 years now although I did so heavily before that.
Looking for people who want to play live, cover good music, potentially write originals (?). Since I moved I haven't practiced in a band so I might be a bit rusty and anxious?
I don't have most of my gear here but I have enough to jam.
All love ❤️
