Steve's Music Store shutting down for good

After downsizing their operation a few months ago, I saw a bunch a posts on Facebook about the downtown location closing up shop. This morning I looked for info and when going on their site a popup comes up confirming the complete closure.

Sad day, bought quite a good amount of gear there in the late 90s and 2000s.

RIP Steves Music Store

Looking for band members for an emo-pop punk band!

Hey guys! Me and a buddy (we’re both in our early 20s) are trying to start an emo-pop punk band based in Toronto. We’re influenced by bands like Paramore, My Chem, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Pierce The Veil, etc. Think early 2000s emo, pop punk, and hardcore!

We're looking for a guitarist (or two... I suck at rhythm lol) and a drummer. Right now we have a singer/rhythm guitarist and a bassist!

We just got together recently so we don't have any demos/songs to share, but I have some solo stuff that's in-line with the kind of music we want to write (link is attached to this post!)

If you're interested and wanna connect, send me a message!! :)

Toronto, looking for something different? We're bringing a sci-fi inspired jazz-funk show to My House Fri-Jun-10.

If you're into Snarky Puppy, Weather Report, electric Miles Davis, or adventurous live music, this is a show worth checking out. The show is JULY 10 not June, can't seem to change the title!

Nick Maclean's SNAGGLE feat. the ALI BROS lands in Toronto on Friday, July 10 with an all-star Canadian lineup performing explosive jazz-funk inspired by Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels. Expect deep grooves, soaring improvisation, cinematic textures, and plenty of musical surprises.

"Totally original... Funky as all hell... this ain't any Kenny G oatmeal for folks with no teeth." — Mike Greenblatt, Classicalite (New York)

FRI-JUL-10

🎟 Tickets ($20 advance): https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1987926288041

📍 My House

2882 Dundas St. W.

Doors 6:00 PM | Music 8:00 PM

Featuring:

• Nick Maclean – keyboards & synths

• Brownman Ali – electric trumpet

• Marcus Ali – tenor saxophone

• Jay Yoo – guitar

• Phil Albert – bass

• Adam Mansfield – drums

The new repertoire draws inspiration from Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, blending progressive jazz, funk, fusion, and cinematic storytelling into a live show that's energetic, immersive, and unlike anything else happening in the city that night.

If you've been meaning to catch SNAGGLE live, this is one of the smallest and most intimate rooms on the tour, an ideal setting to experience the band up close.

New Musician In Toronto

Good day yall! My name is Josh Janes and I’m a country musician from NL relocating to the GTA next month. I’m looking to starting building connections, so if there’s anyone on here in the country scene whether you’re a writer, producer or artist yourself, I’d love to connect!

ATTN: STOLEN MUSIC EQUIPMENT AT HOUNDSTOOTH THIS WEEK 💔💔💔💔

A friend of mine had ALL of her music equipment stolen this week from a locked room at Houndstooth (college st). Worth roughly $8,000.00 and sentimental value is priceless. This Nord has been her main instrument for the last decade. She's a local Toronto independent, who's been at it for many years and is also a mom to a young child. She doesn't have the resources to just replace this equipment on a whim and her music relies on this gear.

If anyone sees this Nord or bass pop up anywhere on the market or heard ANYTHING please please please drop it in the comments.

Keep in mind this happened in Toronto West end and whoever did it likely knows someone who works at houndstooth because the equipment was stolen from a locked room upstairs. Would appreciate ANY information. This has sentimental and monetary value :(

Lift the Post-Pandemic Ban on Indoor Buskers at St. Lawrence Market

For years, local buskers have delighted visitors and locals alike, making our music an essential part of the historic St. Lawrence Market experience. While musicians are still allowed to play outside during the summer, market management has quietly turned a temporary COVID-19 restriction into a permanent ban on indoor busking during the colder, rainy months.

Despite tireless emails and attempts at dialogue, city management continues to give us the run-around and ignore our messages. This leaves our beautiful community hub completely silent during the colder months, stripping the market of its world-famous charm and hurting local musicians who rely on these indoor spaces.  The  rest of the world has moved past pandemic restrictions, and it is time for the City of Toronto to do the same.

My friend created this petition. She's close to 100 signatures and once it's over that mark, it will likely make a difference. It's a worthy cause so please sign! Thanks!

Emo/ Folkpunk-ish New To The Area

Hey! I'm a ukulele-driven emo/folkpunk artist looking for some band and venue recs. I just moved here from Portland, OR (I'm on Hamilton but looking forward to spend more time in Toronto) hoping to go to some shows, meet some cool folks, and potentially hop on some lineups.

I know I'm brand new to the area so I'll even play doors until the opener just to cut my teeth a bit.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/5LtiHWb8Nv9i0pr2qIqL8L?si=Ppjl55doT7-IPI7L7h6gew

I typically do acoustic singer-songwriter but I can also bring the "full band" sound with my backing tracks. I have enough music to play up to a 40-min set.

Thanks for reading!!

Edit: I have tickets to see Arms Length on the 7th if anyone else is planning to go. Would love to connect!

Looking for venue for July 24th

Hey all, hoping someone can help. Our band had a show booked for July 24th, but it fell through due to a booking mix-up.

We are hosting a band from Montreal, so we're trying to find an alternative. Wondering if anyone knows of a venue that is available? or has any suggestions for venues at a relatively short notice.

Much appreciated 🙏

(The vibe is shoegaze/dream pop, we usually play places like Monarch Tavern, BabyG, Sneaks if that helps)

Help me find the DJs from Pizza Wine Disco

Ok this is such a long shot but I’m desperate lol.

I LOVED the music at Pizza Wine Disco. Every single time I went it was the perfect mix of old and new. Like you’d get nostalgic throwbacks, disco, early 2000s, current songs, everything just flowed so well. It never felt like the typical wedding playlist or club playlist.

I was trying to figure out who the DJs were because I’m getting married in December and I’d literally love someone with that exact vibe… only to realize Pizza Wine Disco is closed. 🥲

Does anyone know who any of the resident DJs were? Or even DJs in Toronto that have that same style?

Please help a bride out because I’ve been thinking about that music for months. 😂
